Many times I've tried to explain to people not from the area, or state, that Jasper is not that bad a town. If something like that could and did happen in Jasper, it could happen anywhere.
At the time the dragging news came out, I was working with a black lady in San Antonio. She grew up in the Orange area, but her father grew up in Jasper. She said they regularly went back to Jasper for their family reunions. She said clearly there were communities in Southeast Texas where blacks had to be on guard, but that Jasper was by no means on that list. Furthermore, she said that if she had been told to pick the LEAST likely place for something like that to happen she would have picked Jasper. For whatever that is worth, that was her take.

No punishment could have made up for what King did to Byrd. And to all the good people of Jasper, which is most everyone there. Easily overlooked is the fact that unlike many cases in the deep South, the three miscreants were all in jail within 24 hours, and tried and sentenced within a year or so. No cover up here! The people of Jasper were handed a job to do; and they did the right thing. Glad this chapter is finally over.

The Running game should be very solid with the size we have on the O-Line.
Who is going to be the QB this year? I have been hearing it may be the JV QB getting the job.
If I remember correctly I read last year that Montavian Hunt had been considered for QB last year. True?

Congrats Silsbee. Ya'll had a great year. Too bad it had to end this way.

Congratulations Newton!

Jasper missing a couple of backs had something to do with that.
Absolutely true. Can't cry about it now, but the good news is that both Hunt and Limbrick will be back next year. Limbrick is only a Sophomore and already has had flashes of the same lightning that Hunt has. Either would have been a great help tonight.

Jasper running the ball decent, but no hunt, limbrick or hubbard definitely showing.
Having to earn those yards the old fashioned way. Three yards and a cloud of turf.

Not sure why you quoted me, but thanks, I think.
Just playing with you. Not you, not sure whose posts seem unchanged from first game. "Cannot run on WOS." I believed that then, believe it now. But I was wrong to believe it for the first game. Just waiting to see for this game.

If Hunt does NOT play then this game is a toss up, with the coin leaning in WOS favor.
And I know that all the Jasper fans will be screaming that they have been plenty good with the back-ups in, BUT HUNT is a special dude.
WOS minus the starting QB
Jasper minus Hunt
WOS has the advantage.
Whistling in the dark keeps the buggers away also. Especially while walking past the graveyard. I know this is dumb. Just doing my part to help get to 20 pages! At least this site is not dead..

I truly hope giddings comes back down to earth.first off it's not how ur playing in August but how ur playing in December. I have said this from the start.all 3 of them backs from silsbee are just as gud as hunt.who ran for 374 against w.o.its no knock on him.i think all 3 of the backs from silsbee are just as gud.all of these can take it to the house.ik giddings has some speed.but not as much as silsbee. Close game but if silsbee slow down there run game.silsbee by 14.
I'll bite on that. If each of three RB is as good as Hunt then how did Silsbee lose the game to WOS? 3 times 374 would be a lot of yards.

Bcz I have always had so much respect for jasper. And the teams of setx. No matter what sport it is I'll cheer them on. That's why I kinda head that jasper is D2 now.
I think I know how you feel. It is great to get to play WOS, but on a seeding basis, this probably should be the state championship game. Kind of a shame actually to have to play at this level.

Went to school with David. He was a year ahead of me.He got his arm broke and was lost to us with our Semi game against Pharr San Juan Alamo. We lost 17-13 or something like that. The back up,bless his heart, could not pass and had two left feet.I still believe had we had Foster we win State.
Yeah I wasn't going to mention how the Stark season ended.

He goes way back before there was a WOS...back to the 60s and there was no WOS until 1977.But I got the point.lol
Kind of funny. He picked up on West Orange but apparently overlooked the game against Stark in 1962 at Jasper. That game also did not end well for Jasper either. 65-6 loss. Jasper celebrated anyway because they scored a TD against a top 10 ranked team
That was a David Foster qb'd team for Stark if any of you Orange folks are old enough to remember him.

Best team ever are easily are 86 and 87 dogs.ppl probably dont realize how gud those 2 teams were.they had more all state players then w.o .maybe 5 or 6 plays kept them from winning state 2 yrs in a row.they were that gud.
True, the right break here and there the Jasper 86 and 87 teams could have won state. But that could truthfully be said about several different Jasper teams. I think the 83-84 teams should be in the discussion. Speed, speed, speed. Few teams would even kick deep to Tony Allen and Reggie Davis because it would be an almost automatic TD. They were that good. It took Thurman Thomas and Willowridge to put the 84 team to the sidelines by a 10-6 score. And the 90 team that WOS beat 7-6 sent three players to the NFL. One to the practice squad, for perhaps a year, one for five years, and one for eight years with the 49ers. And that team did not even get out of district. A one point loss to WOS and a 3 point loss to PNG left Jasper at home.

Maybe not "ever", but definitely best in years, imo.

Jasper injuries update link:
Horse collar tackles are illegal I thought? Anyway please keep Hubbard in your thoughts. It is a shame for his season to end this way. Here's hoping that the game Friday will be cleanly played and no one gets injured on either side.

.... And not at all joking giddings schedule is tougher and the district they come out of is tougher than silsbees.
After Friday night there will be a clearer picture of who is right about sos.

John William King to Be Executed Today

The only caveat that I have is "What if they are in fact innocent of the crime". Sadly there are documented cases where this was the truth. But King was clearly guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. They had his DNA placing him on the scene.
