My opinion: Playing "bigger" schools in the preseason doesn't really prepare you for anything.. if you play every district game after and even the first couple/few playoff games as a blowout win.  What was accomplished? After winning 8 games in a row by 60 points I mean.. The preseason "preparation" is wiped away at that point.

You need to look at Newton’s results, they speak for themselves. We have no chose to who we play in district. Barbay said he did not want to schedule a team
unless he thought they had a chance to beat us. He said playing a real bad team serves only to get one of your kids hurt. That is why we have played Silsbee, Gilmer, WOS, Carthage, Jasper, etc.. It prepares us for the playoffs.

why would they want to opp up?

We are at the bottom of our bracket now. If the bio refr. Kicks off we would probably gain more students. If we go 2A I think it would be hard to get good 3A  and 4A teams to schedule us. WOS has already told us they will not schedule us
    next year.

You are Incorrect, according to WOSdrummer99

WOS turned in 635 last alignment. If this was the same as last year WOS would have to lose 90 kids and I do not believe they will lose that many numbers this alignment or next alignment either. Last alignment was 545-879.
I think it goes by average attendance for high school.

But the last act of the outgoing board was to extend the super for three years… and Burkeville had to cough up three years worth of his salary, if my memory is correct.

It was a very costly decision and I’m pretty sure Burkeville has had two supers since.  I mean, the new board won and made good on their promise, but the whole ISD lost in regards to a severance that cost the school hundreds of thousands… and they had to hire another super.

The move i am talking about was over 40 yrs ago not the one several years ago which you are talking about. I got off the board in 2003.

  5. crying on this site will not change it. You have to change your school board who has the power for the final hire on the superintendent and coach.
we had a problem years ago at Burkeville and we got behind a select number of candidates (which I was one of) got elected and we changed the system which included getting rid of the superintendent.
I hear your cries and I feel your hurt. Get some people who are respected in the community that have your views that are willing to run and get behind them.
Good luck to my friends at WOS.

I think Newtons numbers will keep them in 3A but Hemphill will more than likely move down.  The number that I was given by an administrator at Hemphill was 249 and they stated that it was steadily decreasing.

I think the number turned in is on daily attendance for high school.
