  1. I root for WOS every game and hope they make it to state every year. I have respect for that program and what they have accomplished. That being said, I don't think the Newton Eagles will be losing to WOS this year. This is two fast, athletic, and well coached teams going at it. Newton proved so much last week and I will confidently say that they have not dropped off too much as we all thought they would. I think this game will be decided within a touchdown or two. Though, I said that last week and was completely wrong. Win or lose, this will benefit the Eagles. Good luck to both teams and may the best team win.

This is the crap that makes me hate Newton Fan.  That "mediocre" Silsbee team was a state semi-finalist last year and lost practically nobody.

Newton, on the other hand, lost three D1 players, no telling how many other good kids, the HC and the OC....

The only thing that I know for sure about Newton is that they have the most delusional fan base in the land.

I'm personally hoping that Silsbee beats the brakes off of the Eagles so that their fans can go back into hiding until they get into the JV playoffs.

I can see your frustration as it frustrates me as well. Newton has a great chance at beating every 3A team this season once again, but I see the next three games going either way for Newton. They are pretty loaded when speaking of starters, but there is no depth this year. A few injuries could ruin Newtons year. If starters are healthy, then they could possibly have another undefeated season. Time will tell. As a proud Newton fan, I am definitely not going into the next three games thinking Newton will win with ease. All three games will be very close, but the Eagles could definitely end up with a few losses here and that should not be frowned upon if so. We all know Newton is good, but we have to stay humble and realistic.

It won’t be that close. No way Newton is giving up 28 points to a mediocre Silsbee team.

You could be absolutely correct and I hope that you are right. I am going into this game by looking at a really good Silsbee team going to the 5th round of the 4A playoffs last season. That has to speak for something. As we all know, they have great ball players and they will find the endzone. I would love to see Newton win by 3-4 touchdowns, but I am predicting a close battle only because I think Silsbee is much improved.

Most do not have this kind of difference in size.  Just a way to pad the win column.  There are plenty of other schools Lumberton could have scheduled.

Lumberton would get killed by plenty of schools with under 400 students. It's okay to play them. Kirbyville just happens to be really down. They would get killed by a school 15 miles up the road in Newton and they don't even have 300 kids. Just line up and play. I think Lumberton wins by 5 scores.

  5. Newton has a very good player on both sides of the ball out for all of pre-district. With that said, I see Newton being a little down, especially due to depth. I think Silsbee has a better chance at winning this game now. Though, I still have to go with Newton until proven otherwise. It just hurts not having a good player while playing good teams like Silsbee, WOS and Gilmer.

  6. This will be a great game. I do not think Newton will win easily like most expect. Silsbee will have a lot more depth than Newton this year and has a great backfield that will see the endzone quite a few times. Though, I think Newton will outscore Silsbee to find the win. Win or lose, Newton will be a better team from playing a solid and fast Silsbee team.

I hope they are more flexible, and reactive. Canadian killed us with their strong safety on the Jett sweep in the state game.  Neece didn't have an answer for it. A soft pass behind the safety would have neutralized that play. We'll see.

Canadian did a great job against that play. Though, a great team like Canadian knew that Newton had a horrible passing game if #8 was not on the field. Therefore, they were able to focus on the run. It's hard to win championships without having a solid passing game to mix in with the run. That is what I think Newton may have difficult with this year. Excited to see what is to come.

  8. Newton 54

    Kirbyville 7

Newton is actually pretty loaded this year. They have darn good players everywhere. They just don't have the "big 3" like the past two seasons. Now, the boys that were overshadowed from the the "big 3" will finally have their chance and it will show. They have some good ones. I just hope Newton shares the ball with all the athletes and keep Coach Neece's mentality.

I didn’t say anything about Bellville vs Newton as far as this years team is concerned lol. I was saying this years East Bernard reminds me of the 2016 Bellville team scenario.

Man, I should have read my comment before posting. hahaha. I was talking about EB and not Bellville; sorry about that. PS, I went to the Astros opening day with you when they won the World Series.

East Bernard reminds me of a Bellville team from a few years ago. They have a good team but they are about to run into a buzz saw . Just like Bellville vs WOS a few years back. Newton wins 49-14

I don't think Bellville will score at all. I can see the halftime score being 35-0 and then the final only being 49-0. That offence will not get many yards on this year's Newton defense. I know that you know they have athletes, but I think this group plays their role and the best assignment football i have ever seen from a Newton team.

  11. I think WOS wins this match-up by 14 points. It is hard to beat a good team twice. WOS is having a "down year", but i think from playing Newton, Jasper, Crosby and Nederland in the pre-season will have helped them be ready for this match-up. Yeah, WOS has lost four games, but they lost those games from really good teams and while being young and trying to find their identity. With that being said, I am going with WOS to advance to the 4th round.

  12. I see Jasper winning by a couple of scores. I am interested in seeing them play against an above average team though. They are a good ball club and very well coached. We shall see when tougher opponents come in the next few weeks, but I am rooting for them! Could someone tell me who Jasper and WOS will draw in the 3rd rown (being that both make it)?

  13. Awesome! WOS surely deserves it. Their athletes deserve it. When will this take place? Will they have it for next season? I wish Newton could get turf, but we all know that will never happen. Hopefully a couple of these guys on the team make it to the NFL and they go in on it one day. Wishful thinking on my part though.

I'd like to point out that you could add the entire student body of Newton High School to Bridge City High School and we'd still compete in (and rule) District 11-4A D1.

Our standardized testing results would suffer, though.

Hahaha! Yes, the standardized testing results would definitely suffer. But, the football and basketball team would be better. For baseball, all 9 starters would still be from BC. lol
