For 60 years the AP poll has ALWAYS been the usual suspects that get the votes.  WOS has consistently been there since the 86-88 run even when we didn't deserve it although I think we do this year. Strangely enough the usual suspects are the ones that end up winning more than 50% of the time.  I've run the numbers.  The Preseason AP poll has correctly placed more state semifinalist, finalists and champs in the top 10 than the end of season AP poll has and also does better compared to any other poll.  There's always someone who comes out of nowhere (Fairfield) though.  It's just a poll.

Don't like the score being like it was but it does revenge the worst WOS loss by margin of points ever at the hands of Jasper 41-0 way back when.  Always have respect for Jasper.

It's impossible to feel sorry for HP.  They've worked the system since the 1930s.  They were the reason that the UIL made a multiple division system 80 years ago.  Money talks. Nice to see them finally in 6A and not one student under the limit as they've always been before.

LOL you obviously have no clue who I am. I was at the 35-7 drubbing WOS gave Crosby in 1988 and was a Sophomore at Rice University at the time.  I was the one wearing the parachute pants not my parents.  I would hardly call a couple of good seasons in a row a dynasty. I WOULD call 38 good seasons in a row a dynasty though. I wasn't being malicious just giving a little advice from experience. Just be prepared when something happens and it comes back to bite you.

A bit confused on what this thread means as well lol... but WOS is currently 353-91-3 all-time  79.31% win percentage.  Find me a team in Texas in any class that can beat that.  I bet you can't.  Dave Campbell's records only include teams that have played 500 games but in four or five seasons we will be there and immediately rocket to #1.

Kicker, yep I'm 100% sure. You do realize I'm WOS87 in disguise? The admins know. We're all good now. WOS went 7-3 in 1999 and their only losing season was 1983 when they went 3-7. We were ranked #2 when we lost to Silsbee in 1998 but were only #6 preseason. The only local teams to knock off WOS when they were ranked #1 in the AP were West Brook twice in '88 and '91, CE King in '89 and Jasper in '04.
To PNG yes we most definitely would drop in the polls. Might actually be a good thing to get rid of that target.

I did the research and surprisingly the DCTF preseason polls as well as the AP preseason polls are more accurate at predicting State Champs than the end of season polls over the past 50 years (most likely because the top programs know scheduling tough teams in pre-district is actually a good thing and one loss or more will give you a lower end of season ranking).  A little bird told me about WO-S as well which worries me.  WO-S has been the #1 preseason fave several times over the years and tends to do worse with a target on their backs.  The drop to 3A in 2004 was the most recent time with WOS #1 and Jasper #2 preseason and Huffman got the big upset over WOS in Bi-District.

I did a little research and made a list of records for the last 100 games played and included every 11-man UIL team in districts which include SETX teams as posted in the 2014 end of the year standings 1A through 6A.  Teams that played 100 games in the least amount of time were how the tiebreaks were made.  This is a lot of teams from a lot of classifications and there are sure to be some errors so let me know and I will correct them.  I realize people will have their arguments on why such and such is unfair.  I'm not saying this is a definitive ranking by any means but it's something that's interesting and open for discussion.  This gives a definite advantage to teams that have done well in the playoffs consistently recently (5 of the top 7 played in State Championship games, 7 of the top 9 played in State Semifinal games) but yes it does penalize for having tougher schedules that result in early season losses which in the long run could be very helpful later on.  Despite that the usual suspects seem to have remained at the top (WOS has three 3-loss seasons and a 4-loss season included here and Newton lost 4 games in 2008, 2010 and 2014).  I actually kind of like the results and a few teams are poised to jump significantly if they live up to the hype set up for them in 2015 (Crosby, Jasper and Hardin-Jefferson for sure). What elite teams did your favorite team lose to?  What teams should your team have beaten?  What was your fave teams biggest win?  Four teams have not been around long enough to hit the 100 games played mark so they were ranked by their winning percentage from the games they did play (Kingwood Park, Goose Creek Memorial, New Caney Porter and Anderson-Shiro).  100 was somewhat of an arbitrary number chosen although if a team were to go 16-0 for 6 seasons straight (which has never happened) they would have played 96 games so at the very minimum it takes into account the last 7 seasons for every team.  It also makes it very easy to get a winning percentage as the total wins equals the winning percentage.
