  1. Quite the contrary. They are a better team without him. That's why they had a 8 out of 9 win streak a few games back. The one they lost was a fluke or they were trying to lose. : Let's see how the Mavs fare without Dirk.
  2. Yep, any time there is an upset, the team that loses was trying to lose.....or it was a fluke....yeah right. Great mentality. Go McGradyless Rockets!
  3. I think taking Jack Nicklaus in his prime over this field of players is a safe bet. In fact, I dare anyone to come up with five players in golf today, that could even rival the likes of Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Raymond Floyd, or Nick Faldo....all in their prime of course.
  4. Wow, Tim Clark ranked 22nd in the world beats Tiger. Now that's what I consider a good challenge. OK, let's hear it for the knee surgery.
  5. .....thus reinforcing my view that he has no competition.
  6. Yep, great news. Now, if he only had some competition.
  7. I hate text. I didn't think you were necessarily pro steroid, but insensitive to their abuse anyway. I apologize for reading something into it that is not there. Again, I hate text....hence the apples and oranges confusion.
  8. It's been fun arguing with you guys. I really don't have any concrete answers for this situation, and I believe none of us do. I don't know where to draw any lines, but I can't have the HR king and a 7-time Cy Young winner keep their records if they are found guilty of juicing. We could kick this around all day, but that would always be my response. Why is it that you want to excuse these guys but you are probably the same ones who voted for testing HS student athletes? Oh yeah, we're saving them from themselves. Aren't we the noble ones?
  9. I bet any one of you on here defending these guys, would be the first one to cry foul if a high school team was found to have players using this stuff. You'd want games forfeited, especially if their win kept your team out of the playoffs. Heck, they forfeit games now for using inelligible players for something as minor as grades. As for the Ty Cobb comment, you could take away his stolen base records and possibly his runs scored record. He has so many other records that he wouldn't even miss them. I'm not sure you could punish the teams Gabe, because we all know they didn't know those guys were using.
  10. His recommendation is too extreme but I certainly understand the frustration of those playing the game right. Clemmons, Tejada, Arod, Bonds, Sosa, all suspect or confirmed, all past MVPs. (not to mention many others speculated) I'm going to assume Roy and Burkman have played clean because I'm counting on them to not have the Clemmons arrogance as they stand on their bold soapbox. I also assume those that have used in the past are sitting quietly in the corner holding their breath. I happen to like the extremity of his judgment. It keeps it in perspective and treats all involved the same. Instead of doling out individual punishments, where you will get into different levels of cheating ("I only cheated this much") you make a firm stand with zero tolerance. Everyone knowing the consequences will understand the magnitude of the penalties for cheating and risking careers and precious records. I hope you are right about Berkman too. I like him as much as Pence.
  11. Nope, I got a plasma tv just to watch my Astros. I like players like Hunter Pence too much to stop viewing. Even if the Astros lose, I still like to watch the effort he brings. I can even do something in another room and come back in to see if Pence is up in the inning. If they win, they win, if they lose, they lose, but I still like Pence.
  12. I read what Oswalt said and I see nothing dumb about any of it. At least he takes a stand and doesn't ride the fence.....wanting to crucify some and let others slide. I agree with what he said. Sorry, I don't like cheaters.
  13. I remember Biggio for being unselfish. He'd play wherever they wanted him to play. He should have gotten starting all-star at 2nd base sooner, but there was a fella by the name of Ryne Sandberg playing for the Cubs who seemed to always beat him out. Biggio also had a clutch bat. I liked Biggio much better than Bagwell. I'm glad I lived during Biggio's playing days.
  14. Should I start a Roger Clemens thread so you can rant on his behalf?
  15. Who knows if this will work? I think adding another bat to the lineup is like buying melons in Louisiana for $1.00, and selling them in Texas for $1.00, and thinking that your problem is that you need a bigger truck.
  16. I think Bonds entering the HOF is the least of his worries right now. There's a federal grand jury he has to answer to and it doesn't look good. You don't lie to grand juries. Bonds, what a peach of a guy he is. He'd let people rot in jail for him. Of course his trainer is probably getting hush money, but still, sit in jail...and he may be going back? I don't care for Bonds, A-Rod, Giambi, Clemens, Sosa, McGwire, any of them that used steroids to make them bigger than life (pun intended). baseball25, you are right. Average Joe isn't going to benefit much from using steroids. It will help a good player be better, but it will help a great player be the record holder instead of just one in a top ten list. I feel so sorry for the guys who were the best players without steroids (Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris) being overshadowed by those that had to cheat because "they really weren't better".
  17. Here is why the PAM coach hasn't gotten any color photo coverage. Man, I'd hate to see his wife. Don't take it too hard SFA85, it's just a joke.
  18. Maybe steroids doesn't help him hit a curve, slider, etc..., but it does help the ball get over the fence instead of dropping short for a routine flyout. Gold glove for the outfield doesn't impress me much. I say take the records away from all of them and let the records belong to the players I want my kids to look up to, instead of the cheaters. My kid can't even drive his truck to school without someone testing him for drugs/steroids, yet society wants to let Bonds and other's cheating accomplishments stand. Where are our sense of values? Leave my kid alone, he's done nothing wrong. Gabe, I don't think the excuse that "everybody else was doing it" has ever held water.
  19. I keep reading about PNG's ''Tradition''. I was just wondering when that point in time occurred? Was it when it was PN, or after you added the G? Does it take 5 years...10? When can any of the rest of the teams around here claim to have tradition? This is a serious question and one I have no answer for.
  20. Learning a complex offensive scheme will be more of a challenge than worrying about the talent. As far as Mid County did you attend the PNG - Nederland Freshman game this past season? ;D I was there, Nederland had like 300 yards of penalties, the best team don't always win, that was the case that night. The Nederland freshman class was the most talented group of freshman I saw play last year. Nederland had 5 sophs starting on varsity last year, they have some of their most talent laden classes coming through since Neumann has been there. The CO group hasn't lost in 3 years... we'll just play the games and find out. Typical statement, we've heard this EXCUSE before. We admit it, we have never beat Nederland because we were better than them. Even though the record over time is in our favor 47 -31 -7. All 47 of those wins was because of the officials(bad calls) or ya'll had some of your players injured.Ya'll were better and should have won all 47 of those games. We know!!!!!!!!!!!!WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!! Well I was going to congratulate PNG on getting a new coach. Ok, I'll do it anyway....CONGRATS Posts like the one above make me ill. A program on the brink of extinction, all of a sudden gets a new coach, then you start the trash talk with lifetime records. Dude, get a life. There is absolutely no comparison between sub-varsity and varsity ball.
  21. Well I think the Spread O is personnel driven vs. just plug and play. You either have to have a slew of RB's coming through or a wave of QB's and WR's plus the Oline has to be stellar year in and out. Thanks for the reply. I was more curious about the defense, since you have always claimed that spread-o teams have soft defenses because they practice against the spread blocking schemes (which you call finesse blocking).
  22. SFA85, what about LaMarque? Are they just the one in a thousand? They have had great offenses and defenses over the years. Maybe it has a lot to do with talent. Dayton has been doing well too.
  23. ....less government control.
  24. I refuse to bash this kid on a mesaage board. Was what he did against the law? NO!!!!!! This happened ''in house'' and should stay ''in house''. Johnson is a fine upstanding young man and all of you should be ashamed for putting negative crap out there. There's more gossip on here than in a henhouse.
