  1. Brazosport 10

    Baytown Sterling : 0

Sterling 10 run ruled tonight after losing Tuesday night to BC with C. Fall pitching a perfect game. This makes numerous losses now for the rangers going back before the BC game. The Sterling head coach and asst coach look confused, and they don’t seem to have any answers to fix the losing, yet they have talent on the team. That regime has lost for several years with no signs of climbing out.  As a fan that has a family member who plays for that  program it gets tough to watch. The only positive of that program is the JV coach who is new this year and who is nothing short of amazing. He has absolutely nothing to work with as far as true softball talent goes, but he makes them competitive…and yet I am told his assignment is to hold an Ipad during the varsity game.  Hoping for a turnaround there and a season that can be salvaged.

  2. A rich tradition out there in Ofield for baseball going back for decades . They just do it right out there in the bayou. Been producing some  great players for a very long time. Guys like Granger in the late 80’s  and the great college and long time minor league / MLB career he had to guys like D. Kirby in the mid 90’s , the Agerton boys and Morgan in the late 90’s, to Felts in the 2010 / 2011 years to the entire 2022 Bobcat team that dominated last year. Glad to see the torch continues to be carried well by this young man and this years team. Best of luck.

  3. They didn’t win a game the entire season last year. They didn’t win the year before that. The program has a rich history and what a great deal to have someone like Robertson getting involved. With that said, the program needs to see signs of life this year or perhaps it’s time to bring in a fresh perspective and a new skipper to lead these young men. They are the only Orange County public school to not have a competitive team. Too proud a program for that, and they have been down long enough.

  4. Historic program only had about 5 applicants. It was never posted on any coaching sites. No recommendations were taken from the search committee. They had the guy already in place before CT even talked about retirement.

Also, our sports for this school year has a combined record of... 9-52. That's a .148 winning % overall.

    not acceptable.

WOS Drummer 99 is correct with his above statement. That’s isn’t acceptable at a place like WOS. That record and percentage is only gonna get worse after you put in the baseball and softball records.

best of luck to Vidor on the coach search. Congrats to Coach Mathews on a long and good ride at Vidor.

  5. I’m assuming that for any coach at WOS , it must be the place to be for “job security.” For example… Football had a disappointing season with lots of chatter about a needed change and yet he gets to stay on. I get it , he’s only been the guy one year. I’m sure with all the talent WOS has, they will get that winning mentality back. However , look at the WOS baseball team. Am I right that they didn’t win one single game last year and only two or three games the season before and yet no changes with that either. One can argue that the talent in baseball is not there, but not to win a single game last season and get to keep a job after not really being competitive the year before. It just seems a little off on the mentality “only the strong survive”  that WOS has always competed with. Either way, pulling for WOS to get it going in the right direction.

  6. Congrats Coach Terrier on a good season. Not easy stepping in as interim athletic director / head football coach. Hopefully the guy will stay on as head baseball when he becomes the athletic department boss. He is the best baseball coach that Buna has ever had. My opinion of course. Good luck to Coach T and the Coogs.

  7. Am I correct that BC only beat Buna this year?? Yes, time for changes in the football program. Look at that district… They are gonna be with the WOS , Jasper, and Silsbee programs next year and perhaps in the future.  All the more reason to get a fresh start with a new head football coach and new assistant staff.  BC is a great town, but football is embarrassing, and those people and that community are too proud to accept 1-9 seasons and consistent losing seasons.

  8. Nederland has always wanted to keep those jobs in house and keep assistant coaches that were friends of high up administration. Neumann is a legend for a reason and well deserved. However , the program has gone down since he left and Nederland isn’t really intimidating to play anymore. It’s a proud program, great community , I mean y’all do it right. Class act. Just got to get a new and fresh start in the football program with a new leader and some new assistant coaches.  It’s time. The program is at an all time low, and Bulldog Football is too proud and too historically tough to remain in that shape. Good luck.

  9. There is no doubt that this was a terrible year for football in BISD. At no time, was either United or West Brook really in a game except for when they played each other. Sad state of events. This has to fall somewhat on whoever the athletic director is at that district. The one who makes decisions. It has also been a historical attachment that when someone says it just takes time to improve that we are really giving a pass for another year or two or three or four for mediocre coaching and results. Sure,  United will bring glory to BISD with basketball. Excellent program. Just an opinion , but I have to believe that there are enough quality athletes that Beaumont can be and should be at least somewhat respectable in all sports. Now Baseball at United , well that’s a stretch. In my opinion the baseball program there has been forgotten about by administration. However , coaching stipends and teacher salaries at BISD do not compare to the Channelviews, the CE Kings, the Barbers Hills, the Baytown schools. Not even close, which yes could contribute to the lack of applicants for those assistant coaching roles in football. I wish the best for BISD. Sometimes changes are the only way to shake up a sinking ship. Best of luck whatever the future decisions are in BISD.

  10. Sounds like a good game. Bold prediction is Sterling beats Lee next week to take home the Baytown trophy. Lee beat PA then lost by a good margin tonight to Porter. They seem a little too unstable for me to trust them especially with a Sterling team that is more motivated that ever. Credit to their team tonight for playing to the last second. Rangers going out of the season on a high note.
