    Well. . . I tried to call it. . .
Not only did UH get the best defensive tackle in the state, they now have a commitment from the third best DT in the state to go with him. They're also expected to get a commitment from Hightower DE, Michael Johnson Friday.

Shortly after the Oliver commitment UH also picked up a verbal from the Lamar road grader, Dixie Wooten, who I think is the second best guard in Houston. Don't be surprised if the best guard in town, Crosby's Keenan Murphy, also commits soon.

UH is also in great position for Tray Williams even though I think he's going to A&M or TCU. Dillon Sterling-Cole and Tyrie Cleveland are thought to be a package deal by some and UH is in prime position for at least Cleveland who's probably the best receiver in town. Don't be surprised either if they pick up some elite local DB talent in this class.
The kids are hash-tagging their commitments with #HTOWNTAKEOVER. They're probably just a few commits from finishing with a top 20 or maybe even top 15 class for this cycle.

Your son is a different case. He was recognized as a national recruit early on in the process. I'm sure there's 30 coaches that came through to see HIM during the Spring evaluation period alone. There's at least 30 coaches a week that come by schools like Westfield and North Shore though. WOS has one or two FBS kids on the roster every year maybe. Those schools have 10 or 15. There's going to be a lot more evaluating done there where you have to look at 10 players from positions across the board versus at WOS where you're usually evaluating one or two athletes, mainly DBs. You get recruiters that are position specific at WOS, everybody goes to Westfield and North ashore for everything. Here's an example, look at what WOS has produced and the position they play and look at at the other two.

    WOS - http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/recruit-search-results
    * It has some other schools mixed with it, but look at the positions.

    Westfield - http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/recruit-search-results?year=&sport_id=1&sport=football&keywords=Westfield
*Look at the player rankings and sheer volume of talent they produce.

    North Shore - http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/recruit-search-results?year=&sport_id=1&sport=football&keywords=North+shore

I understand the point you're trying to make, but I've heard from several recruiters that WOS is a must stop when they come to Texas. That may not translate to a ton of D-1 offers, but in the case of any kid talented enough to garner that kind of attention, they'll get plenty of looks from D-1 recruiters.

You're right on the recruiting front. Shaw got his UT offer pulled while DSC and Baldwin are blowing up. It's probably not a popular opinion but playing at a bigger school against better players and mostly better coaching is what recruiters want to see rather than you dominating inferior competition. You also get to excel in the role you'll probably be playing in college instead of going both ways trying to carry a team like great players do at lower levels. While you get some exposure from making a title run at WOS, you get a lot more playing in the Spring district like DSC or the Cypress district like Baldwin even though Baldwin's team will be pretty bad. He'll get more looks in practice this Spring than he probably would've the whole year at WOS. Not mention Baldwin getting to live in Cypress vs Orange.

Every game from now on in NRG will be played on turf, even the Texans will start playing on it next year. The injury complaints have forced their hand.

The last thing we need to worry about down here is what's fair. Crosby fans had to drive a combined 1200 miles to watch three of our five playoff games last year. A second round game in San Antonio, a fourth round game in San Marcos, the a semi-final game in Austin. Each time we had more fans than the teams we played which were a lot closer to the site. Those small schools don't have to travel to Houston every week, just once IF they even make it there. Is it right that Allen won a title and only had to travel probably 40 miles max for any of their games while Cy-Ranch has to come over 250 miles one way? San Antonio is probably the location that benefits everyone the most, but if other teams are forced to travel then so be it. I guarantee the last thing someone from the DFW, or anywhere else for that matter, is worried about is how far the teams they play have to travel. The only thing they're concerned with is winning the game.

I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing that an elementary school kid could fill in with your middle schoolers. I have a son in elementary who's probably the best athlete in his class by a wide margin from the looks of what he does on the football field, there's not a snowball's chance that he could step on the field with his big brother's middle school 7's squad though. Hopefully he's the real deal though, I would like to see him match up with my eldest son.

All the media has to do is not show up, that's not going to happen though. Half the time the kids are the ones being asked by whatever outlet it may be to hold some sort of public gathering to make the announcement. Look at what the NFL draft has turned into, same type of thing could be said there. You have to just look at it as the elite prospects being rewarded for their hard work. Those kids don't and shouldn't worry about the "other 99%".

I think the "fair" you reference is a relative term. It's not fair for a kid to make legal transfer, yet the coaches of those same kids often leave for better opportunities and higher paying jobs. Is it fair to the coach's family to potentially have their quality of life restrained just to please the community? You have to make business decision, rather it's a better school or a better program you do what's best for your future within the rules. DSC was solid at WOS, he blew up at Westfield though with numbers that probably weren't as good as his sophomore stats. The difference is that now he plays in a 6A Spring district where all four playoff teams went at least three deep with three of the four making the regional final. There's a lot more in game exposure he gets there vs playing at WOS, not to mention there probably 30 major d1's a week that come through the field house. He now has more schools to choose from that want to give him a free education, seems fair to me.

When our kids see their teammates get offers and special attention from colleges it makes them work harder, not have an attitude about it.

Kid looks like he's going to be a beast. This may be the best back to come out of Houston when it's all said and done though. This kid and Joe Mixon are the only backs I've seen recently with 0 weaknesses. This kid also happens to be a sophomore right now.

My experience is that the only opinion coaches wanted from us was How was your drive? Did you sleep well? How do you like the campus? How do our dorm rooms compare to the other school you visited?

Kid has to earn the scholarship, we have to help facilitate that to the best of our ability.

Our coaches were engaged with parents about realistic recruiting expectations. What you can do and can't really do. We took the can do and did it.

Probably still a long shot at that height. Last two short qbs I remember other than Aston Walter are Desmon White who threw for 8k and ran for like another 4k in his career and D'eriq King at Manvel right now who probably has 140 career tds to his name with his senior season still to go. White is a backup receiver and the same might happen to King even though he's regarded a little more highly. Both of those guys played 6A too, it's difficult to get even a d2 scholarship to play qb these days.

Cougar14.2 reacted to Goblin in Last 100 Games
I did a little research and made a list of records for the last 100 games played and included every 11-man UIL team in districts which include SETX teams as posted in the 2014 end of the year standings 1A through 6A.  Teams that played 100 games in the least amount of time were how the tiebreaks were made.  This is a lot of teams from a lot of classifications and there are sure to be some errors so let me know and I will correct them.  I realize people will have their arguments on why such and such is unfair.  I'm not saying this is a definitive ranking by any means but it's something that's interesting and open for discussion.  This gives a definite advantage to teams that have done well in the playoffs consistently recently (5 of the top 7 played in State Championship games, 7 of the top 9 played in State Semifinal games) but yes it does penalize for having tougher schedules that result in early season losses which in the long run could be very helpful later on.  Despite that the usual suspects seem to have remained at the top (WOS has three 3-loss seasons and a 4-loss season included here and Newton lost 4 games in 2008, 2010 and 2014).  I actually kind of like the results and a few teams are poised to jump significantly if they live up to the hype set up for them in 2015 (Crosby, Jasper and Hardin-Jefferson for sure). What elite teams did your favorite team lose to?  What teams should your team have beaten?  What was your fave teams biggest win?  Four teams have not been around long enough to hit the 100 games played mark so they were ranked by their winning percentage from the games they did play (Kingwood Park, Goose Creek Memorial, New Caney Porter and Anderson-Shiro).  100 was somewhat of an arbitrary number chosen although if a team were to go 16-0 for 6 seasons straight (which has never happened) they would have played 96 games so at the very minimum it takes into account the last 7 seasons for every team.  It also makes it very easy to get a winning percentage as the total wins equals the winning percentage.

The most important thing is for parents to do some real research. It helps to really know what you're looking at or at least make an effort to learn it. Camps are good if you have a great athlete, camps aren't good if you have an average athlete because he will be exposed by better athletes at that camp. Know who will be there and where they have offers to if any, it wouldn't hurt to try to watch some of their film to know what he's up against instead of showing up blind. Never oversell their measurables either, that's a good way to start off on a bad note even though they won't look at them sometime if you tell the truth.

Probably the hardest thing to do for a parent is to make an honest evaluation of their own child. The parent has to know that their opinion is the one that matters the absolute least. Find a place your kid CAN play if he's good enough vs trying to find a place y'all want to play.
