I think this is a great idea. I mean...if you're losing why should you try to put your team in a position to win. Now that I think about it it just seems crazy.

    Let's change these as well:

In baseball, no bunting allowed if you have runners on base. In basketball, no fouling allowed in the last 2 minutes even if you're behind. In golf, no laying up. You should be forced to go for the green your 2nd shot no matter what. Let's see...surely I can come up with some more.

Better coaches and better facilities. Probably not better athletes as a whole.

NCAA decides how many athletic scholarships are given. Besides...on average 1% of high school athletes are given an athletic scholarship. About 3% even play college ball.

You want something done as a taxpayer and parent...raise the teacher salary at your kids school so it's actually a competitive job. Then you will bring in better teachers that can get your kids prepared for college ACADEMICALLY. Then maybe they can get some ACADEMIC financial help...which the UIL state football championship doesn't govern.

It's as much the staff as it is the head coach. You need several knowledgable coaches. And they all need to be involved in the sub varsity and JH practices everyday.

Those younger kids need a lot of individualized instruction from experienced coaches daily.

I've always thought it was a joke putting your youngest, least experienced coaches in charge of the JH teams.

So I have a question. Should UIL give money back to only the schools that make it to the venue? Because those are the only parents that bring money to the games. Because parents of players are the only ones complaining about where it is played.

Or should UIL give scholarship money to every school with a public school football team? And only benefit BOYS that play football?

And should hotels and restaurants give back the money they bring in because of the football state championships.

I'm just wondering exactly what it is you want to happen.

So that's it huh? You WANT it in Austin? Nothing to do with WOS driving 6 hours?

You need to be thanking UIL. I said all along...if UIL doesn't put Gilmer, Carthage, Chapel Hill, Henderson, Tatum, and those other guys in Region 2....then y'all aren't there anyway. It wouldn't matter if it was in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, or Port Arthur.

Maybe, maybe not. So many perineal powers in that area...only one makes it out.

I would bet that that area "ETx" will win it all tho.

Why do you care? The intention for the "State" UIL championship is the opportunity to play the last game of the season for the chance to win the state championship trophy. High school football is the biggest money maker in Texas high school sports. And there is no bigger deal in all of high school sports...why would you not reward these kids with the nicest venue the state has to offer? Stop whining. There is no home team advantage.

    I just know this.

Gilmer came out of a 24 team region. Including the most competitive and arguably the best teams in the state. Teams that have several recent state champions. Gilmer being one.

WOS came out of a 19 team region. Including the weakest district overall and arguably the worst teams in the state. Teams that have few if any recent state champions. Maybe LaMarque.

Having said that...this is high school sports and anything can happen. They've both done a great job getting to this point.

    My gut says Gilmer tho.

They also have a chance to be 0-10 if the qb transfers or doesn't play.

I doubt HF pays enough to bring in a high quality coach anyway. The coach they have is probably doing as good as anyone they could bring in anyhow.

That is a very good post. I can respect that. Believe it or not I so know what you're saying. I know that there are several low income areas down here, and that there is very little expansion or new business. I also know that oil companies swindled mineral rights away from land owners generations ago. I do know most kids in other areas of the state probably have never seen a FEMA trailer nor had to evacuate for a hurricane. And I have more respect for coaches and educators than any profession in the world. I defend coaches on this site all the time. I believe that there wouldn't be doctors and engineers without teachers.

But I also believe that there has to be a way. We live in a country where things can be changed simply by the will of the people. Me personally .. I am not ok with these kids accepting something simply because "our school is poor". I think out society doesn't need any help being ok with mediocrity. The kids going to school in this part of the state deserve a fair shake at competing in life as anyone else. And that's the message that has to be sent. How can kids in Orangefield compete with kids at Katy? Or any other prominent area in the state. And don't say they don't have to. All trying to get into same college, get same job, buy same house.

I told you guys...it's so much more than just a turf field.

I think schools generally wait until all district teams are out of the playoffs before they announce. I think anyone can "announce".

Maybe the district chair sends info to the local newspaper. I'm not real sure.
