  1. GOOD!! Tried to tell ya...just renew the contract the first time it's recommended and none of this happens. I hope this bites Navasota in the backside real hard.
  2. Surely you jest. Katy would get embarrassed by them or anyone else playing next level football. I don't know how many college football players Katy has...but I know how many Benedict College has. Every kid on the roster. Katy may have some kids committed D1 with some lower level commits in there too...but BC has a roster full of grown men that were literally studs on their high school teams...plus 3 or 4 years of getting bigger, stronger, and faster. I'll take a team FULL of 22 year old D2 and D3 kids over a team FULL of 16-17 year old kids with SOME D1 commits every day of the week.
  3. Katy would be lucky to get a first down on a D2 school. Katy's punter...if they have a punter...would sweat for the first time all season.
  4. Easy...tap the brakes bud. I agree, Katy was good this year....but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
  5. No it wasn't. I still want to know why the decision was tabled to another meeting...Especially if the decision was 7-0. It was stupid that it even escalated or was allowed to escalate to the point it went to. 7-0?! Just renew the contract the first time it's brought to the floor!
  6. Almost sounds like some decisions that oughta get one or more people fired.
  7. Not impressed. Plus...from the looks of what little I saw, Normangee is awful. Kountze may give them problems simply from applying chaos.
  8. Is there going to be any kind of consequence for the fact that they turned in fewer numbers than they really had? Didn't that kind of mess up several pre-season schedules? Or is it going to be "swept under the rug" and treated as tho they didn't mean to do it? Just curious.
  9. Joe Lombard. He's won a game or 2. 17 state titles...16 of which were at Canyon. He officially only has 3 more toes until he can no longer wear every championship ring at the same time. [Hidden Content]
  10. Good. Maybe they'll finally be embarrassed enough to shut down athletics for good.
  11. I agree 100%. I think I've actually said before I thought he was better.
  12. Who's questioning?.. I think maybe you should scroll up a few messages and rethink the comment about me "questioning" whether or not he's good enough to make ETBU's roster. I'm just simply defending the current players at the lower levels. They are better than you think. And no....unfortunately...if he isn't recruited FOR WHATEVER REASON then THEY THINK he isn't good enough to play for them. Whether you or anyone else thinks he is is irrelevant. You are not their recruiting coordinator so they don't care what you think.
  13. Yes..that definitely seems plausible. 7 different college coaches are such bad recruiter that they wasted roster spots and maybe even scholarship money on kids that they knew would flop out. Then...a college coach of however many decades also wasted roster spots on those 7 kids knowing that they weren't good enough to play for their former school. Yep. Makes sense. ETBU is 20-5 right now.. I haven't seen them play either, and I could care less. But they seem to be doing ok. And trust me.. if "he is good enough to make that roster" I'm sure they will reach out to him at some point. If not...well I guess you're wrong.
  14. I'm not saying these kids can't play. And I'm not saying they aren't good enough to make a college roster somewhere in the country. But I think there is some underestimating going on with the talent of college basketball players as a whole. Even at the lower divisions. Here is a roster of this year's team at ETBU: [Hidden Content] I'll agree...the heights of the players aren't overly impressive. But you are talking about a D3 program. But there is one thing that sticks to me that's very obvious. On that roster there are 5 Juco transfers, an NAIA transfer, and a D2 transfer. Along with several kids that went to high school at a big school. Now that doesn't mean Angel isn't good enough to make that roster...no...but it does mean that just about every kid on that roster has played against much tougher competition before getting to that roster. Just about..not all. Now you could find exceptions to every single thing I'm saying...but the fact is that I chose a D3 team at random because it was mentioned earlier...and I think it speaks for itself. And...with all of those college transfers, if you look at their schedule you'll see that every game they've played is pretty close. And they've only played against other D3 teams. Which tells me the other D3 teams are pretty competitive with a school with 7 college transfers. If you think even D3 teams aren't searching for the absolute best of the best...then you're mistaken I think. You're underestimating the talent of D2 basketball.
  15. First of all..it's not "all you people". It's me. I'm running the school board down...and I'm running the school board of most small schools down. Not all...most. And don't worry about my profession. I'm in a profession that's in high demand that I've made a career out of. In fact...am at the end of it. I'm not saying my profession is better or worse than any...just saying those professions don't make you qualified to be a board member of a school. Same reason I won't apply at a hospital to be a doctor..I'm not qualified to be in that position. And trust me I know there are 2 sides...I'm waiting to hear the other one. Does he cuss excessively...not go to sub varsity games...not support other sports...any explanation would suffice. I'm just waiting to hear one. Maybe I'm jumping to a conclusion...but I've seen it play out just like this several times before. The fact is that several school board members across this state make decisions based on personal agenda. Did these? I don't know. But I haven't seen a good reason for this decision yet..
  16. It was just an example. I'm not saying people in those professions are uneducated. No matter what I listed someone would've been offended I'm sure. My point is that none of what I listed represents someone that has proper training for handling a budget in access of millions of dollars...in regards to how to spend it concerning education. Nor does it represent a person that in any way knows (educationally) what may or may not be best for the students of that particular district. That's all I'm saying. And yes just like any profession on the planet...there are always those that don't do their job very well. But the problem with smaller districts in particular...there is no competition for that person's spot. Most likely..the school doesn't pay very well. Which means you're going to get stuck with bad teachers, or teachers that are from there. Personally I don't think teachers should be allowed to teach (their first year especially) in the school they graduated from. I went to school with a guy who became a college professor. The school we went to wouldn't hire alumni. It is called educational inbreeding..they only hire professors that were educated somewhere else in order to bring in new ideas. Sounds like a good idea to me.. But anyway..if you've met teachers and administrators that are "mouth breathers"..(I'm assuming I know what you mean).. then that's on the school for allowing incompetent people educate your children. Only way to change it is raise teacher salaries and bring in some competition.
  17. I think that it's easy to spot a problem with smaller school school boards. As an educator, you have to obtain a bachelor's degree and then pass a series of certification tests. As an administrator, you have to do all that...and have a master's degree along with corresponding certification tests. As a school board member...not only do you not have to meet any educational requirements whatsoever, you don't even really have to have a job. Yeah they have to attend a training of some kind...however often. But as long as you're there you've met the requirement. They aren't tested over the content. Teacher - Professional position with college degree and tested certification(s) Principal/Athletic Director/Superintendent - Professional position with college degree(s) and tested certification(s) School Board - may or may not have attended a college class. Has to approve budget for entire campus. Responsible for all hiring/firing decisions regardless of what is recommended. Member 1-electricians helper Member 2-works for the city Member 3-unemployed Member 4-refinery Member 5-Farmer Member 6-unemployed Member 7-Barber All 7 members probably were on the high school football team (and would've played college if the coach would've liked them), coach youth sports every single year in every single sport, and have kids in the school system. Obviously..I know not every board is like this. And I'm sure that are some school boards that do fantastic jobs. But you know good and well that I just described a pretty good majority of small school school boards to an extent.
  18. If nothing happens to Livingston...I would turn in 10% less on every snapshot from now on. Might as well chance it if nothing happens..
  19. Personally I think it should be at the school's discretion. 99% or more of all high schools in America will not have any pro athletes.. If they feel as someone is worthy.. who's to argue.
  20. A basketball team beating a school of higher classification is a normal thing. It happens every single year...all over the country...in high school and in college. It does not happen nearly as often in football or baseball. That's because in basketball you have 5 players. A good group is a good group. Or 1 or 2 REALLY good players and a few decent players is still a good team. That happens only in basketball. Had Dville been put in a district with Big Sandy, San Augustine, West Sabine, Grapeland, Alto....they would've gotten skull drug exactly like they are now. And yes when you get to a certain point in playoffs bigger schools will often prevail. Silsbee and HJ are traditionally pretty dang good basketball teams. Lets take some other 4A schools and see how they might fair in the local 3A district (Kountze, Buna, Woodville)... HF, Orangefield, Liberty, Tarkington, Coldspring,...um...I'm not seeing much difference between schools with 100+ more kids. and...You're talking Ozen and Central I'm sure...which have both made the 5A state tourney recently. What about the bottom feeders of that 5A district? Lumberton plays Kountze every year...right? How does that go? And let's talk girls hoops a second.. Evadale's girls beat just about every team in this area, any classification (that they play). And when's the last time they made it to the state tourney? So if HF, Buna, Silsbee, Lumberton,...all lose to Evadale (2A), and Evadale gets eliminated round 3...are we to assume Lumberton's girls wouldn't make the 2A state tourney? I don't think that's far fetched..
  21. Potentially. I have no idea what Dville has...nor the other schools. I just know what they've had previous. Sabine Pass could be scary any given year...just depends on what they get from PA. HD is a you never know...and WH is a you never know. But either way..you are correct Dville should be competitive in that district.
