Just looking at 2 impressive wins against El Campo in Week 1 and HF last week tell me all I need to know about Cuero. Both teams are very good with potential to win it all. This game will come down to 2 things, imo. 1. Whoever wins the turnover battle probably wins the game. 2. How aggressively the refs call the game, in particular between the DBs and WRs. I never like to see a game decided by pivotal, controversial calls but this game could easily have that happen. Any of us that have played Silsbee in basketball know that without refs calling a game aggressively, you don't stand a chance against Silsbee. Football is not any different in the secondary. That's impressive! With that said, I hope this young man has a good support system around him that does more than tell him how great he is. When you are special, which he is, you don't need people telling you how special you are. You need adults who remind you that "You are never as good, or as bad, as other people say you are". And don't ever spend much time reading your own press clippings. Good luck to this young man!

That stat is meaningless. Playing Nederland with a losing record is not the same as playing a 4A D2 team with a losing record. You can throw all that junk, including common opponents, out the window. It means absolutely nothing.

If Cuero coaches are worth anything, they will double team Miller. Silsbee will have to be disciplined and patient in their drives. Can't rely on 70 yd TDs to Miller. Need other players to man up if Silsbee wants to make it to State. But this is the team to do it, imo. If silsbee does these things and wins the turnover battle, they have a shot to go all the way.

You are not wrong about Lumberton growth, great area to live and lots of developing real estate. I just focus on the #s. Lumberton's rate of growth has not changed. Here are the last 4 UIL snapshot #s: 1158 (5A), 1125 (4A), 1222 (4A), 1215 (4A). UIL cutoff #s to move up to 5A for the same years: 1100, 1160, 1230, 1300. So, historically, UIL has raised that cutoff # by about 60-70 students every 2 years. Another way to say it would be that the growth rate of the UIL cutoff # is more than 3 times that of the LHS enrollment growth rate. But occasionally there are anomalies. An unusually small senior class exiting while an unusually large 8th grade class entering HS can cause a change in classification. If the UIL cutoff # only increases by half of what they have done historically, that is still a cutoff of 1330. Just how big is this 8th grade class? Do they have 115 more kids than the current senior class?

I keep reading where some of you are predicting Lumberton will move back up to 5A next realignment. That seems silly to me considering that Lumberton's snapshot # decreased over the last 4 years (1222 down to 1215) while the UIL cutoff to move up to 5A consistently goes up each time. Maybe you guys know something that I don't but it seems pretty clear that Lumberton will still be 4AD1 at the next realignment. To have an intelligent discussion about this, someone could pull up the last 5 UIL cutoff #s and compare that trend to the less than 2% average annual growth in enrollment at LHS over that same time period. Maybe you guys are teaching that new Common Core curriculum math in your district but UIL #s and LHS #s seem pretty basic, You only have to know how to add, subtract and occasionally divide to figure this stuff out. Use Excel if it gets too difficult.

I hear ya but allow me to play devil's advocate a little more. Do you find it odd that government, state health authorities and TEA leave it up to the local districts to decide whether or not it is safe to put kids and teachers all in the same building and classrooms but a decision like playing a pickup game in the outdoors is a punishable offense. That decision can't be made by local districts.

I think about how the Greatest Generation would handle this whole situation. They didn't raise any "Bubble" boys and girls. It's embarrassing how dumb we have become now that we have all the information in the world right in our pocket. And with social media, we are able to infect everyone else with our stupidity.

Local districts are allowing practicing right? So could a "scrimmage", not a game, still take place?

Same with baseball, track, golf and other outdoor sports. That's too dangerous. But put all those kids in an enclosed space with adults who are more vulnerable to this particular virus because that makes perfect sense. Oh, and don't let those nasty parents bring outside food to kids at lunch because they might be sick. The people making these decisions get the bonehead of the century award. You can't have it both ways. Either go with the stupid idea that we are going to contain mother nature and prevent spread of a virus that many of us in setx already have anyway and just haven't been tested, or manage it with a controlled spread which doesn't overburden the health care system. But to contain, you can't put the kids and teachers in classrooms. And to control, it makes more sense to continue certain events and limit outside groups. Athletes at outdoor sporting events with only key personnel makes more sense than kids and teachers in the classroom if your true concern is public safety. But guess who doesn't get that state money if those kids aren't in the classroom?

Inability to foul by silsbee and letting over 30 secs burn with less than a minute left was disappointing. Felt like giving up. Good season though Tigers. Made it exciting

Back to the game, it almost seems as if Yates has been sandbagging a little to not draw too much attention to themselves. Sort of like that athlete on steroids that never does his full 1 rep max because it would be so obvious to everyone that he is on the juice. I guess the gloves came off in this game since the curtain has been pulled back. I actually felt sorry for the #4 team in the state of Texas.

I know what it means to most law abiding people. Oldschool, I thought you knew the game. You seem so wise on other discussions in the football threads. Anyway, how does the UIL treat "homeless" students who are no longer living with the legal guardian but still need an education? And does the UIL have the resources to investigate every "legal guardianship" across every metropolitan area throughout the entire year across the state of Texas? Or do they treat it like the false claims made on Pell Grant applications every year are treated by the federal govt? You know all these players are not on the up and up. But like Miss Benita said on In Living Color, I ain't one to gossip, so you didn't hear that from me. 😉

We should probably better define what "living" means. Does that mean that the kid has an "Uncle" that is now raising him starting between his Junior and senior year in high school?
