  1. I think what 11 is saying is prior to Babin, we were getting beat by teams like Central by 60 points, no exaggeration. After Babin arrived, we lost to Central in the final seconds of the game back to back years if I remember correctly. We beat the likes of Ozen, Vidor, GCM on our way to the 5A playoffs. The only things that have changed in the last 4 seasons (Babin era) is the talent level from year to year and now a drop to 4A. The culture shift is real and has not changed, regardless of the scoreboard or the opponents. It doesn't mean we are all of a sudden world beaters but what our players believe and what our opponents see/feel is different the last 4 years. That's a fact that can't be disputed. Hence, the phrase culture shift or change.
  2. I love the comment about band playing while you are on offense. I've never understood why it is so difficult to understand, Don't play while we are on offense. Beaumont Central always got it. Our QB would have no voice after screaming over "Oh, they want some" the entire game. But Central would Never play while their offense was on the field. Even being the opponent, I loved it. Oh, and I think BC will get the W.
  3. Depending on what you are looking for, you can't go wrong with one of these: Brick Oven Pizza, Catfish Cabin, Going's BBQ, Napoli's Italian, Juan's or MiPueblo Mexican or Hamburger Depot. I personally would not choose Tia Juanita's unless for the alcohol only but that's just me. And Kotoyama is good for Japanese.
  4. He's gotta be a dad upset about son being done wrong, in his mind. I don't know any other reason for someone to be that bitter and ugly during a winning season. Can't please em all
  5. Amen. The most embarrassing loss of my college career was when this small horrible team from California flew into town. They had already announced the program would be shut down the next year. When I tell you this team was not very good, I'm just being polite. We were prob 30-40 pt favorites. I don't know cuz nobody cared. So most of our team was either drunk or high the night before the game and we just "showed up" the next day. That was over 25 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. The lesson: Never go into anything in life thinking you've already got it won. And be humble or God will humble you!
  6. These are 16-18 yr old kids we're talking about. As adults, we shouldn't be calling out mental or physical mistakes of individual players on here. It's a team sport and you win and lose as a team. Every kid out there made mistakes but some are just more visible. It's part of the game. But more importantly, those kids and their parents shouldn't have to read personal criticisms on a public forum. We need to be better than that.
  7. Great win! Our boys showed a ton of heart to fight back after a dismal first half. Coaches made great adjustments at halftime and lit a fire under the boys. It was great to see the heart that the Raiders showed tonight. Keep working hard Raiders and good things will happen. And give credit to Huffman. They came out firing on all cylinders and put up a heck of a fight all night. They are a good team and will beat a lot of teams. Good luck to the Falcons the rest of the season.
  8. I'll throw the Henry brothers in the conversation from Beaumont Kelly. There must have been 10 of them. Several played D1 and one that I know of, Adam, made it to the league.
  9. I agree. I remember LCM dropping down and I expected them to just run through the new teams. It's not that easy and the work will still need to be put in. I'm confident Babin and his staff will have our boys prepared just as if we were still in 5A.
  10. Oh and the '85 team lost in the State Championship game, so that's 3 titles and one runner up in a 5 year span.
  11. That's what I was about to say. Look at how the basketball team is doing it. There also has to be an emphasis and an interest in being a Winning Football school. That philosophy was squashed and eliminated when Eskue, Credeur, Williams and staff were run out of town in the 90s. Kelly has never recovered after that but the angry, non-football parents accomplished the equality across all programs that they were so hell-bent on. By the way, the football program led by that coaching staff won 3 State Championships in '86, '87 & '89 and never lost to St. Pius, St Thomas, Strake Jesuit and others. As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you ask for because you might just get it"
  12. I agree 100% with MOST of everything you said. Too much emphasis on Equal Distribution of everything with no consideration for how well you perform or how much work you put in. We don't want to declare a winner in anything because then the person who lost will have a damaged self-image. So, it is best to just not keep score. I hear ya brother.
  13. Dangit Cardinalbacker. We had a good debate going about all district selections that would have led to Soulja and old-school both admitting that their statements were foolish and asinine and you ruined it. Good job.
  14. I'll take Carthage over that Crosby team we faced in Rd one 2 years ago.
  15. Yeah, LCM to Navasota is a good 3 hours by school bus.
  16. But that's assuming that UIL sticks to 16 districts. I would hope that in 4A and below that there are fewer than 16 districts so we don't end up with 5-6 team districts.
  17. Can you explain what the criteria are for being voted 1st Team All-District? Not your personal opinion but what the coaches use as criteria when placing their votes.
  18. So, are you agreeing that he was a 1st-teamer even though he was on a losing team? That question is for you and old-school
  19. I disagree. I can name plenty of examples at the high school and college level where there was at least ONE 1st teamer on a losing team. I get the point you are trying to make but your statement, as well as Soulja's, is just asinine. We are not even talking about All-State or All-American, we are talking about 1st team all-district. One quick example off the top of my head: Calvin Tyler was on the Ozen team that Lumberton bullied 2 years ago. What was their record? So, Calvin Tyler, by your logic should not have been considered for 1st team All-District?
  20. So, are you saying that if a kid is on a losing team (2-8 for example), that a kid on that team should not be good enough to be a 1st team selection?
  21. Word on the street is that UIL will release cutoff #s on Wednesday.
  22. You don't have to be a big time D1 player to be an exceptional, difference maker on defense. Example, Montana Q from Vidor. But you have to have some difference makers like him, preferably 4-5 of them, to slow people down in the late rounds of the playoffs. The PNG players played their hearts out on both sides of the ball and the coaches did their best. Sometimes you just get outplayed with a higher level of talent. Nothing to be ashamed of. Great seasons Indians!
  23. Parents never want to think it could be the Jimmy's and Joe's.
