Yates may be the deepest and most athletic team I’ve seen this year in any classification.

Obviously Mitch and Jock for Yates. Jones as well I would think. Not sure about the rest of their kids but they fill up the first few rows of the gym with their bench so I would guess at least one more i’m unaware of. On silsbee side, not counting football (Barnes is a high D1 there), at least 3. Could have another or two. So minimum of 6 maybe as many as 10 or so. Thats a lot for a 4A game

Yates will always struggle with very good to elite guard play because the back of that press is soft as a Charmin. The other thing is, I don’t think I would press Yates no matter what. They rely on easy buckets. In offensive sets, it looked to me like they would just jack the first open look they got, volleyball line in. Not saying there wasn’t a method to the madness but I couldn’t figure it out

You should beat them. They are decent but get back on defense and defend the perimeter (even to volleyball line) and you are fine. One big kid you need to keep off the boards.

3rd Place Game: Jasper 53 OF 46 F

What he’s got is scoreboard. Nice season Salado. The Mustangs might not be world beaters but they’ve beat 38 in a row who have lined up across from them. Very few schools in the country can say that. Certainly none that start with Salad and end with -o-.

Yeah he is crucial this year. Main diff to me is not as much inside depth. Need Kalon healthy and out of foul trouble.

Games like this are invaluable for Silsbee. They would be more fun later in the season when all the Tigers get their “basketball legs” but that’s not how it works. If Silsbee gets back to state this year, and I think they should, you Tiger fans may get another look at Wagner in the 6A final four there.

Made it over for a couple of the evening games. Spotted the “grey haired gentleman” in his spot and was able to get in a visit. It’s almost like waiting on line to see the Don Corleone in the opening scene of The Godfather. But I refused to kiss his ring and he seemed okay with it (I hope - it’s too cold to sleep with the fishes..)
