oh yeah, i don't follow hockey much, and i'm not sure who it was, but i heard about a player who was on the penguins last year who bailed on his team to try and win the cup with the detroit. i bet he feels like a donk right now -

US Open Officials Have Fun With Pairings

a list of all pairings... [Hidden Content] -
Tiger Woods will begin defense of his U.S. Open title on June 18 at Bethpage Black with an 8:06 a.m. (ET) pairing with Masters champion Angel Cabrera and PGA and British Open champion Padraig Harrington, according to the starting times released by the United States Golf Association. In a departure from last year's format of putting together the first- and second-round pairings based on the Official World Golf Rankings, the USGA decided to go with the three reigning major champions. Woods, Cabrera and Harrington will go off the 10th tee at 1:36 p.m. on Friday, June 19. The 109th U.S. Open tees off June 18 at 7 a.m. ET at Bethpage Black. Find out when Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and the rest of the world's top players begin their quest to win the year's second major championship. Round 1, 2 pairings Woods, who is coming off his second victory of the year at the Memorial, won last year's Open in a playoff over Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Woods also won the last Open played at Bethpage in 2002. Mediate, who finally lost on the 19th hole last year, will play the first two rounds with Kenny Perry and Tom Lehman, both of whom missed last year's Open. Phil Mickelson, who is ranked No. 2 in the world and is playing despite the recent disclosure that his wife, Amy, has breast cancer, will tee off at 1:36 p.m. Thursday with South Africans Ernie Els and Retief Goosen, each of whom has won two U.S. Opens. Mickelson finished second to Woods in 2002 at Bethpage. The USGA apparently had some fun with the groupings. It put Fiji's Vijay Singh with India's Jeev Milka Singh (no relation) in a group with South Korea's K.J. Choi. It put Argentina's Eduardo Romero with Argentina's Andres Romero (no relation) in another group along with Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez. And this ought to be interesting for the scorekeepers: Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen, Denmark's Soren Hansen and Sweden's Peter Hanson will play together for the first two rounds. Long hitters J.B. Holmes and Alvaro Quiros are in a group along with Nick Watney, while good friends Sergio Garcia and Camilo Villegas will play the first two rounds together along with Adam Scott. There is also an all-France threesome of Thomas Levet, Jean-Francois Lucquin and Raphael Jacquelin.

Legislature approves $5.85 million for Rollover Pass closure Those who fish Rollover Pass might want to start scoping out new sites to cast their lines. Money to close the pass has been OK'd, but anglers have a little time to relocate since it's likely to be about two years before work begins, said Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson. The Texas Legislature budgeted $5.85 million to fill in the channel, a popular spot for fishing that has been accelerating erosion on either side of the pass for many years. But closing it has long been a hotly debated proposal. Former Gilchrist resident Cliff Tomerlin said he wants the government to find a solution to erosion that doesn't require closing the pass. "We feel that the economic impact is going to be very great (if Rollover Pass closes)," Tomerlin, 48, told The Enterprise in a telephone interview. "It wasn't just a free fishing place. A lot of businesses depended on the business that came from people going to the pass to sport fish." Patterson regretted the loss. "That's an unfortunate result," he said. "It's one of those good news/bad news scenarios." Beaumont resident Vivian Todd, whose family's Crystal Beach house was wiped out, was elated that the project had been approved. "Closing Rollover is the number one best thing they could ever do," she said in a telephone interview. She feels the closure will greatly assist Bolivar's recovery. "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen," she said. Before work starts, the project has to go through an environmental assessment. Agencies including Texas Parks and Wildlife, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Galveston County will be involved. Public hearings also will be part of the process. "Assuming all of that is positive, hopefully we'll commence in two years to close the pass," Patterson said. The project also would reconstitute dunes and renourish beaches. The corps had been spending about $1 million a year dredging Rollover Pass, Patterson estimated. "We hope to get the corps to take the money they were spending on dredging and apply it to other projects," he said, adding that renourishing Bolivar beaches would be an ideal use. But resistance to the plan is far from dead. Tomerlin, who now lives in San Antonio with his wife, Connie, is a member of the Gilchrist Community Association, an organization that pays for the upkeep of Rollover Pass. On July 4, Tomerlin said the association will have a barbecue and fishing tournament at Rollover Pass to raise money for studies that would show the economic impact the pass has on the Gilchrist community. "We'd like to have the town come back," he said.

to me, the deciding factor should not have anything to do with whether or not he talked to the media. the sportsmanship issue is much more important than the media issue. of course, the NBA is a business, so who cares about sportsmanship as long as Kobe's interview will be on sportscenter!
