  1. We will find out tomorrow when Warren and Anahuac play for 3rd place; they are currently tied. They play at Hardin at 7pm.
  2. geez...we are only stating our opinions. You don't have to keep trying to get us to change our minds about it. UK...as to the 5'2" pg for Kentucky...good for them, but he is not a football player, is he? I guess I should have added the tag line "in general" about the coaches who want every one of their players to contribute now or later. (and no, I don't know the ARK coaches personally ;D) Every once in a while, you will find coaches who will give the "little guy" his chance as per the UK PG you told us about and I applaud that. My point is that most coaches want the guy that will be there for them 100% and not the the guy that will be 80% football and 20% basketball, especially when he might get hurt playing football. Moreover, Icky is correct when he says that the guys that are bigger (6'6" to 6'8") that might play 2 sports in college, guys like Donovan McNabb, Martellus Bennett, etc.
  3. UK ...for me, the answer is still no because Arkansas' roundball team is comprised of around 12-15 players and the bball coaches expect every one of their players to be a contributor whether it is now or later. They don't want people to take up space for four years as a bench player even though the scholly might come from football. They are going to fill the team with players that will be 100% committed to basketball, not someone who comes in mid-January and plays only 2-3 minutes a game or less. I am going to say it now...I have the utmost respect for TT and what he has done for EC. I am happy of the fact that he came from SE Texas and a small school to earn a scholarship from a prestigious SEC school for his football skills. I have a feeling we will be seeing him on national TV when Arkansas plays LSU or Auburn.
  4. The jumpstop is just another example of inexperienced or untrained refs effect on the game. They have pretty much killed this shot. Back court defense has been ruined, for sure. Breaking the current press is like running through the Giants defensive line. Don't you mean "trying to run through the Giants defensive line"? ;D Seriously, I know what you mean...there are a lot of hand contact these days. Matter of fact, I saw a game where a defender was one-on-one with a PG and the PG put a quick move on him to get around him, but the defender "hooked" him to pull himself even with the PG and the PG quickly lost his advantage that should have been his in the first place. This happened several times during the game and no foul was ever called. Ugh... 15-20 years ago, that would have been an automatic foul.
  5. I am not "talking down" his stats nor am I dismissing that he is an extremely good player, but the original question was "could he walk on his college basketball team." My answer is no if you are talking about Arkansas. I am glad he had a perfect free throw percentage against Kountze since perfection is something we always shoot for. However, someone on here brought up the idea that he shoots "95% to 100%". If he took 200 free throws, he would have to make 190 to have a 95% FT percentage. If someone had said that he shoots 74%, that is more believeable. Going back to the comparison to DJ Augustin, he makes 78% while shooting in front of fans that wave towels, signs, and whatnot...that is why I gave the edge to him. Like footballfan says, it is a moot point because he is playing football and that is where his talent lies...he is one of the best 2A players I have ever seen on the gridiron.
  6. I think he missed a couple more than that, but 74% is a long way from 95%.
  7. you were trying to compare TT to J'Covan Brown, who, from what I hear, is just a one sport high school senior. I have to support DickVitale because a lot of the points he says make a lot of sense. Now I don't know J'covan (have heard of him, but never seen him play) so I can't make the comparison, but let's take Texas' D.J. Augustin. He is basically the same size as TT (Augustin is 6'0", 180lbs). Someone said "he could handle the point in D1 just fine." Now comparing TT to DJAug, no comparison (even as a freshman)...DJ is one of the absolute best points I have ever seen and TT can't pass as well nor dribble as well. TT is probably just as smart as DJ, but shooting-wise...no go. Free throws are inconsistent for both, but I still give the edge to DJ. Defense is probably a toss-up, as DJ is probably a little quicker, but TT can jump. Now this is probably not a fair comparison, but that is what you would get if he was to play high D-1 basketball (someone brought up Dugat...he is a very good player that played at a 4a school and just happpened to play football too. I could have told you years ago that Dugat would do better in basketball than football, just as I am saying that TT will do better in football than basketball. So I would agree with DickVitale if he was to play mid-major like Southland Conference, he would do ok. Not a diss on his BB skills, however, I am in awe of his FB skills...certainly more impressive than BB, I mean, what did he get like 12 INTs? U must be confused about the free throw thing pretty sure 95 to %100 is about as consistent as it gets Sorry, I have to disagree, but the other night, he didn't shoot his FT's well against Hardin. It was like 50-60% for him. I believe that is more the norm for him than a fluke, given his shooting form at the line. I'm sorry if this offends, but I can't believe he shoots at a 95% rate.

  9. I think Marsh & Thomas are Co-MVP's of the district Well, I have to say that I agree with A-town that both Marsh and Thomas should share the MVP award. This is based strictly on what impact both have on their teams. Thomas is a very talented and quick guard, makes pretty good decisions, BUT has good complements in Vance M and Donte R. Marsh has incredible jumping ability, a very soft shot and good shot blocker, but if you removed him from the lineup, I don't know where the team would be. The Kountze boys are very young, so they will have their chance to be MVPs (like Bray).
  10. he could, but if he wants to have a pro career someday, then he needs to be on the biggest stage possible and Arkansas is it. Nothing quite like the SEC stage (Big 12 guy here, but SEC, for my money, is the best conference for pro talent). If he does well at ARK, then chances are he could be playing on Sundays. But DickVitale is right, no college football coach in his right mind (wait, are we talking about Bobby Petrino???) would let a football player play basketball too. Playing 2 sports increases the chance of injury, plus the workouts would differ a lot as well...the football workouts would not mesh well with the bball workouts.
  11. Collegewise, he will be better suited for football, but he could play bball at a small D1 school (given his size, what is he? about 6'1")...not at ARK, though. I think he will be a solid football player for them. Very fast, smart and can hit. I think Bball at the college level, esp. the bigger D1 schools, would give him fits (I have noticed that he has a hitch in his dribble, almost seems to carry it).
  12. if needed, the playoff for 3rd place between Warren and Anahuac is going to be in Hardin on Feb. 7th (Thursday) at 7pm.
  13. this is thru the grapevine, so I am not sure if it actually will go thru as stated here, but I have heard that it may take place in Hardin on Thursday (Feb. 7th) don't know as to time.
  14. that may be true, but they never put 58 point deficit up on anyone...they may have won by 20 or 30 but never 58. If you look at my post on the first game in which Ktz won by 30, I didn't complain...that is the nature of the game, but winning by 58 is not the same as winning by 30. That is just rubbing salt in the wound.
  15. if you wanna talk about injury.. in the first meeting kountze had a player go down in the first quarter and another one out.. and they won by 30. this wouldnt have been a close game with or without your players.. and hardin only had one player on the bench injured. i guess the other ones just dont wanna be there anymore?? As far as I can remember, you only had one player hurt in the first meeting (Johnson) and yes Kountze won by 30 but they kept fast breaking all night. Not once did Ktz slow down in the first meeting...I did say I was impressed by your team and I did think that they would do well in the playoffs. However, even though I wasn't there for last night's game, the score leads me to believe that there was more of the same. Fast breaking all night, and I bet Ktz pressed a lot during the game. Don't get me wrong...Ktz has some good ones, especially Hargraves and the coach is a good one, but I was just calling for a little mercy on a team that is more than obviously having a down year. I agree that it wouldn't have been close if we had all of our players, but gee, if you know you can control the game, then control it...not let it get out of hand so bad. If you do that, I guarantee that anyone with a modicum of basketball knowledge would have said, "golly, that team is really good, they had their way with the other team, they controlled the game from start to finish...they could have blown them out, but they didn't. What a team!!!" Unfortunately, that wasn't the case last night. You do know that this Hardin team has won only 1 or 2 games in district. I can understand having the killer mentality when you play a team that you know is good as your boys did last night against the then district leader Hardin (you won by 21).
  16. gee...you are patting yourselves about a 58 point win over an injury depleted Hardin team (they have lost like 4- 5 players to injury). I'd like to think that I would do it differently if I was in that situation. I only really have this to say, "What goes around comes around"...maybe not next year but sometime in the future, it will. I was really impressed when the Kountze girls came to Hardin, but it is hard to be supportive of a local SETex team when they feel they have to improve on their previous game and blow a team out even worse (in the first game Ktz beat Hardin by 30, now this game by 58). This is not sour grapes on my part...I am getting kind of tired of the press generated by teams across the state or nation that win 100-2 or beat a team by 70/80 points, etc etc etc....I only feel sorry for the losing team b/c it is embarrasing to have yourselves held to ridicule by making the state/national news for something you would rather forget.
  17. not sure if you meant to say that those three teams will be the playoff teams or that is the 1-2-3 order of finish (if this is the case, then Kountze and Hardin would be tied for first.)
  18. Don't forget Marsh from Hardin...he had about 4 or 5 last night.
  19. You have to remember that Deweyville is quite a trip from Hardin (close to a hour-and-a-half away) and Kountze is just up the road from West Hardin (say 40 minutes). I expect quite a few of Hornet fans will be there.
  20. They will only make a statement if the refs lets Ktz play their brand of ball...i.e. heavy press (with lots of handchecking, body contact, etc). That is what they thrive on...don't get me wrong, they are a good team led by a very good coach, but they are young and impatient...they want the steal and they want it NOW!...and that can lead to fouls in just about any game, but, like I said, if the refs let them play hard....who knows?? edit: I want to add that the tempo will not be set by either team, but by the officials. If the officials call it tight, then this helps Hardin, but if they call it loose, then this favors Kountze. This is not an official bash, but this is how I see it. I hope it is a good game like the last one.
  21. I actually thought that game was one of the better games called this year. I think it will be a closer game though...Hardin gets up to play Kountze, especially in basketball.
