  1. The bad thing about Homecomings is the distraction it offers to the home players. There is usually a lot of things going on during Homecoming week and that can be a factor that works against a team. Now I don't think Buna will be unfocused, but I do think it will be a good game. Sorry, I had commented earlier about "your margin of victory"...I got you confused with BCoogs08 so if Hardin does lose then I think it will be by your score then. But then again, I still think Hardin wins. ;D
  2. that is not what I said. I said that I found it interesting that Hardin had more yards total offense than Buna and that I think that it will be a tougher test than ya'll Buna fans are thinking. It was just a comment on a fact. Nowhere did I say that the team with the most yards wins. Just about every one of the Buna supporters puts Buna in a blowout like 42-14, 35-14, 42-26, etc. Yes, I am a Hardin supporter and notice that, even though I think Hardin will win, my picked score is much closer in margin of victory than yours, e.g. Hardin 34-28. I just happen to think it will be the toughest test for Buna's defense so far this year, and vice versa...Buna will be the best team they have yet played until EC comes around.
  3. if anyone wants to compare the two teams statistically, go to [Hidden Content] scroll down and look on the left and find "District 24-2A" and click on the team of your choice and it will take you to the stats for that team. I find it interesting that Hardin has outgained Buna by 1,000 yards on total offense. I think this will be a tougher test than what Buna fans think...at least defensively for the Coogs. I pick Hardin 34, Buna 28 Come on now, don't give the "didn't play very well" excuse....Look at the Hardin/Anahuac game, the game appeared to be well in hand with 2-3 minutes left to play with Hardin leading 42-20 and Anahuac did not have a bit of quit in them and stormed back. Both teams played well in that game. Hardin for the majority of the game then Anahuac for the last 3 minutes...whew!!!
  4. I don't know about the entire secondary, but maxpreps.com has Craft with 6 INTs on the year, good enough for #1 in state in that category (according to maxpreps anyway). The only thing I find curious about Craft is that his maxpreps profile lists him as 5'6" tall. Someone else posted on another thread that he has a 30"+ vertical. This may account for his INTs but Marsh is close to 6 ft (if not already) and his vertical is extremely high (not sure what it is, but he can dunk and he did dunk the football over the crossbars one time after a score). If Craft is put on him, Marsh has the extra length to pluck the ball out of the sky. Anyway, that is my hope...but Buna is a darn good team and it will be a dandy.
  5. According to you, you have the perfect team. But the perfect team doesn't let anybody score on them...I think you are overestimating your own team. I will give you the oline but Hardin can play with anybody everywhere else. Props to Anahuac, but the game should not have been that close. With the exception of blown coverage on one, the other onside kicks were extremely lucky. They got the right bounces to go their way. Practically the whole game the kicking game was onsides all the time. Kicker must not be able to kick that well. I think out of like 10-12 onside kicks, they recovered 4-5 of them. If I was Anahuac's special teams coach, I would have gone out last night and bought a lottery ticket because that just doesn't happen.
  6. One heck of a game...one that left a lot of hearts palpitating tonight. Anahuac played all out and did not give up even though they were down. They kept playing even though their starting RB went out with an injury (#32). He had to leave by ambulance. If anyone knows about him, posting his condition would help...prayers go out to the young man.... The play that started it all was a fumble by the second string offense. Anahuac lit up the board after that...
  7. Hardin wins despite, I believe, 5 recovered onside kicks by Anahuac with a score of 42-41. I repeat, Hardin wins 42-41, final...
  8. Tarkington has had a good program for the last few years and it starts from the ground up. Their junior high program is good as well. I was at the Tarkington MS tournament last weekend and the Lady Horns 8th grade A team was very good. Great servers and they are always active on the court. I believe the HS team has only lost 3 games overall this year. Kudos to the Lady Horns...and the coaches as well. Almost forgot to credit the coaches. They know their stuff.
  9. B/c 23-2A has only a few schools that play volleyball and they put Warren in there to make it more fair as far as number of opponents. 24-2A has plenty of schools volleyballwise so it was ok, however volleyball is the only sport that Warren plays in 23-2A. Everything else is 24-2A. Weird, I know, but that is why...
  10. so what? that is one game...there is still some more to be played...
  11. Don't worry about Dayton...Coach Stewart knows how to do the right things and when to do them...Yes, Dayton has a losing record, but not for long. He and his coaching staff will prevail with the team and make the playoffs. This is my opinion... 8)
  12. I have to disagree on best backfield... The boys, esp the Blanton Craft kid, are all fine athletes but my grandma could be a good RB with that line Buna has. The 5 RBs are a product of a very large and strong line. (yes, i know I will lose karma or get flamed...but what can I say??? The Oline gets all the publicity.. ) If I had to pick and choose from the teams in the district... oline - Buna QB - Nolan @ Hardin RB/WR ala Reggie Bush - Thomas @ EC Fullback/groundpounder RB - Stelly @ Hardin WRs - Marsh @ Hardin, Thomas as stated above, Day @ Hardin DLine - there was a kid from DVille who could move, but i don't know his name, name is reserved here for the next few teams I see. (haven't seen a lot of great Dline play. Lb - Stelly @ Hardin, kid from Warren (McGee?), I think EC has one nice one too. DB - Collins @ Hardin, Craft from Buna, etc Yes, I am a Hardin fan, but honestly, I haven't seen but one district team this year (Dville) so some of the picks are based on what i have read/heard. Please allow me to reserve judgement after district is over...i may change my mind on some of the picks I would like to think that I am open minded so I would change even the Hardin picks if someone impressed me enough.
  13. best back? These are the ones I have seen.... best QB - Jordan Nolan, Hardin best finesse RB - Tramain Thomas, EC best old school, between tackles RB - John Stelly, Hardin That is just for 24-2a because I confess I haven't seen anything else but that district. Now, the best back in HS now, even though he is injured, is McGuffie of Cyfair. I have seen him play and he is the real deal. Although, I think he will change his mind about Michigan and go to a Texas school. I, for one, hopes he stays instate.
  14. something is happening on Friday for Warren, but I will be danged if I can remember what it is. Someone told me but, like I said, just can't remember... just my 2 cents... Hardin 41 Warren 20
  15. it is 35-0 Hardin with 2 minutes left till half. This score is legit...
  16. Don't be too dependent on the score alone...The score could be deceptive. I am not an EC fan, but I know from experience that the score never explains how the game went, except who won and lost. Maybe EC had a monster game against OF but things went wrong..i.e. fumbles, etc and maybe Buna got some gift scores or what...and vice versa Point is that when comparing teams, don't use scores as a measuring stick because each team is different. A better stick is the box score. I will check and see about that now that I have thought of that. EDIT>>>I just looked at the box scores for both Buna and EC. The OF games for both are markedly different. EC was in charge for most of the game scorewise until 6 mins left in the 4th quarter when OF scored 2 TDs before the game ended. This suggests to me that the scrubs were in when this happened, but the stats were very similar. As to the Buna game, It appears that the game was in Buna's favor the entire way, but Smith scored the final TD so again this suggests the 1st string was in the whole time and the stats are really in Buna's favor. Hmmmmm.... On face value, the box scores help give a little insight on both teams, but still not enough...I guess I would have to watch the game tapes... I guess we will have to see these two "juggernauts" go at it soon. Heck, I might be wrong, but that is just my opinion. LOL...
  17. If the Marsh kid's dad is who I think he is, then I believe that he is taller than his dad, and almost as fast, if not as fast.
  18. Although he didn't play in the NFL, Bridge City's own Steve Worster won a HS championship and a NCAA championship with the Longhorns.
  19. dvillepirate... I can see where you got confused about the QB size...I wasn't very clear on which QB I was talking about...sorry. Nolan is about 6'0 and 185lbs. Very smart kid and makes good decisions and knows when to run and he can run...not like Marsh but he can run.
  20. to dvillepirate... I could be confused as to what team he plays for, but Hardin did play a QB that was really tall and the football pads could have skewed what weight he appeared to be. However, Hardin did play an opponent that had a big QB and I just happened to think it was Groveton's. BTW, it doesn't take away from the fact that Groveton does have a good team.
  21. No, it is in Hardin...I think the Hornets will be looking to avenge their lopsided loss from last year. To TravelingBandsman, Groveton is a very good 1A team...they beat WH in a tough game and beat Warren just last week. Their QB and RB are really good athletes...I believe the QB is like 6'5" 210 or along those lines... Like I said in a previous post, when trying to defend Hardin, a team will have to choose the lesser of two evils: defend the pass or the run....it is rare for a team to shut down both on a balanced team. If D-Ville does it, then props to them...
  22. Trust me, they can pass to more than 2 guys. I agree secondary needs to be good for anyone to stop them. BTW, I think that secondary pass defense is the hardest thing to coach, esp at the lower levels, due to not to many teams do the pass first thing... Most teams are groundpounders around here. It can sometimes be easier to defend the run than the pass. It is a choice of the lesser of two evils with Hardin though. In the past 4 games, they have balanced their offense well. I believe that Hardin had 505 yds of offense against HI and it was like 250 yds passing and 255 rushing. I pick Hardin by 2 scores. It will be different from last year....
  23. not certain if the above score was final, but couple of things to note... Marsh caught a pass from Nolan and took it 96 yards for a score. I believe that there were 5 TD passes, all from Nolan. Rushing was also good as well, from what I heard. 1st team did not play after the half...
