1. 23 pts and 18 rebounds, I hope every team shuts Bland down like that ! I think the point that HD was trying to make was that when Bland got the ball passed to him, Marsh/Villemez shut him down (could not score in the normal offensive flow). Bland made the second chance points count. It is hard to shut a talented player down completely in all aspects of the game so could it be safe to say that the Marsh/Villemez tandem shut him down, but couldn't stop him on rebounding? I mean..18 rebounds...that is an excellent game rebounding. However, a talented player has to do whatever it takes to help his team win so Bland adapted to the game well. Nevertheless, it sounded like a great game between two good teams.
2. That is a shame...I'm surprised they didn't do anything to the Ktz player after he started talking about "what he was fixing to do". That can be construed as threatening or inciting...at the very least a "T" as well. If they saw Sims push him, then they should have been able to hear the Ktz player. Was the game in Kountze or Warren? It seems the games are more and more "getting out of hand" these days. Saw a jr. high girls game where a player was virtually mugged on a fast break and no call...the player had to come out of the game hurt (though she was able to go back in after the half). Ehh...that is a whole conversation by itself... 8)
3. Why was Sims ejected? I saw him play at the Hardin game and I thought he was a very good player, calm and levelheaded. If you say it got out of hand, then it must have been pretty rough when Sims got booted.
4.
out of those 40 free throws... EC only made 16. Coach Hargraves has them working on free throws a lot!
So EC made only 16 free throws...Did you not notice that just happens to be the margin of victory?  I wonder what the final score would have been had EC not had so many free throws...
5. Wiese did not have a good game b/c she was in foul trouble during the second half. I think she finished with 9 points however she made some good passes to lead the comeback.
6. warfan...where were those 2 games you saw that the officiating was good? I haven't seen too many well officiated games either...it seems to be getting worse every year or is that my imagination? Was the game at EC or DVille? I posted in another older thread that I am not ever surprised to hear about lousy officiating at EC. You would think with the athletes/teams they consistently put out wouldn't need the extra help. Gosh, they went really deep in last year's playoffs and I bet the officials were really good in the state tournament. I guess the main idea of this statement is they are good already and if the officials are EC homers then they are just rubbing it in the opposing team's faces when they call biasedly for EC.
7. Marsh had 16 pts in the 4th enroute to 25 pts overall, mostly from offensive rebounds. Andrews was the big man for Warren with 24 pts, including 2 big treys...what was more impressive from Andrews was his shotblocking...I think he had around 5-7 blocks for the night. Was surprised at the cold shooting night for Sims, but he has good form and I figure he will be big in the next game. Hardin's PG was out but the bench player, Hall, who started for him had a very nice night with around 10 pts. I think the offensive rebounding edge for Hardin is what won the game for them plus turnovers at the wrong time for Warren towards the last 2 minutes of the game. However, it was an exciting game to watch and Warren will definitely give Ktz/EC a scare, if not an upset when they play again.
8. it is almost not fair to those "little" guys...that is one HUGE fella!!!
9. Spurger won over Hardin because they benefited from some extremely hot shooting from Sheffield and others from 3 point land. Sheffield hit all 7 or 8 of his treys, and as a team, Spurger scored about (a guess) 12 out of 14 trey attempts. That is 36 points just from behind the arc. Spurger won by 13...if you put the scoring at a more manageable 50% rate (18 points instead of 36), then Spurger would have lost by 5 assuming Hardin puts up the same score. Had this been an average game for them (from beyond the arc), the result would have been different, obviously... but no complaints...that is how the basketball game is.. some nights a team with the hot hand can beat just about anybody and the end result is that Spurger won that night. I wonder what would have happened if we played again.
10. Thanks fellas, on the replies about the district title...I couldn't remember that far back... ;D...
11. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Kountze won the District Title last year.
12. Well, it looks more and more like Kountze girls are on their way to being District Champs. Sounds like the scouting trip to D-ville over the holidays paid off...
13. Wow did Warren subs play any?? Sounds like Wiese had her way...it is not good when one player outscores the other team.
14. Spurger will probably get one of the same refs from the Hardin game, but the other, I bet, will be a different one. If he is the one I am thinking of, good luck because he is not a good one.
15. Spurger had the hot hand tonight; Hardin couldn't get theirs to fall (FGs and FTs). Spurger was a great shooting team tonight and shot quite a few treys. I think they only missed 2 treys (both by #1) and Sheffield (#13) made every one of his trey attempts. Hardin, if I remember right, only made one trey all night. Officiating was decent, but let the physicality get out of hand, especially in the paint. No complaints here though, Spurger simply shot better tonight. The hustle was there on both ends as was the defense; however, Spurger made their shots and Hardin didn't. The Pirates definitely lived by the trey; if they miss half of their trey shots, the score would have been much closer than the 13 pt margin. Taking that scenario into account, either team would have won by a very small margin (2 or 3 pts.). Oh well, on to the next game... Go Hornets!!!
16. after tonight, I have to toss the hat in again for JT Sheffield. He made every one of his trey attempts against Hardin. Don't know the exact number but it was, I believe, around 6-7 attempts for a 100% 3pt percentage, and he made it look easy.
17. No, the "little dribbler syndrome" is when a parent TRIES to tell a player what to do which may override what the coach originally told him/her to do. These parents were usually the Little Dribbler coaches. Look at it this way, if you were a pro coach and you tell your pro player to do this and the player's former coach tells him to do something else...wouldn't you get mad?
18. only reason I asked was because I stuck up for D-ville's refs on another thread and was just curious about it.
19. just curious as to how the officiating was in this one. Was it good, decent or uneven?
20. D-ville's refs are decent...they are better than some I have seen and I have seen some really bad ones this season, more so than ever. Anyway, it is hard to beat a good team when they are at home anywhere so quit whining about "how hard it is and you have be 'extremely better'" and play the game. If you are better, then the game will tell the tale.
21. "Little Dribbler Syndrome" is when the kids start playing basketball at a young age, usually through Little Dribblers, their coaches are usually the parents. So when the kids get older and start playing for their respective school districts (usually in junior high), they still listen to their parents "coach" from the stands and the parents make sure their kids hear them. It can be quite the distraction because if you are the actual coach and you are trying to tell them something in a huddle during a timeout and they look in the stands instead of listening to you. I have seen players go straight to their parents during halftime when dismissed by their coaches to do the shootaround before the 2nd half begins. This is presumably to tell their kids what to do during the game.
22. Is he going to play on the offensive or defensive side of the ball? Either way, AZ is getting a good one. Here's hoping he does well.
23. Laz...I only quoted you on what you said about the officials did not lose the game for HJ. I merely added the team thing and missed shots/FTs. I was the one, not you, who said that EC has the homecourt advantage in officiating. It has been my experience through 20 years of being around Hardin sports. Funny...but it does happen. I have seen some fine refs and some horrible ones this year. Here's hoping 2008 brings us some joy and some good officiating. ;D
