  1. Hardin wins over Kountze 3-2 This was a tense but dramatic match. I will say this...the Kountze team is very athletic, more so than Hardin, but Hardin pulled out the win by playing good fundamental volleyball. They bent but they didn't break. Way to go Lady Hornets!!!! This is developing into a nice race in district.
  2. as far as Villemez not getting that many yards against Anahuac...I seem to recall that Hardin did not run the same game plan as the EC game. There was more attempts at passing in the Anahuac game. In the EC game, they opened up the running playbook, from the wishbone to the I formation. Very few passes in that game... Point is that the offense did not really give Villemez a lot of carries in the Anahuac game. Haven't seen Craft play so I can't say anything about him. D. Raymond from EC didn't look the same as last year...maybe not having T. Thomas hurt him? McNeil (Anahuac) is a hoss and if they take a page from the Hardin/EC game then they might beat EC.
  3. I'm not sure of the answer to that one, but I can bet its been a while. Correct me if I'm wrong but its been a few years. I think it might even go all the way back to the late 80's...I believe we did beat EC around '88-'89.
  4. FYI: I heard that the game may be moved to Thursday due to Hurricane Ike possibly making landfall this weekend.
  5. I have seen the "incredible incoming freshmen class" and I do agree that the one you are talking about should play varsity. The tall girl, can't remember her name or number, could jump out of the gym, but the rest of the team, without her, is really very ordinary, no offense intended...just my 2 cents. There are a couple girls on that team that can ball though...a little redhead who was a blur on defense and there was one who could shoot, although very streaky. The incoming Hardin freshmen class lost to this incoming EC frosh team by a combined 2 points (over 2 games and both games were played in EC) and that was the only team they lost to in JH. but my picks for the 3 playoff teams in 23-2a are Kountze, EC and maybe a dogfight between Anahuac, Hardin or even Dville.
  6. No doubt about the D-1 QB statement, Friendswood has one in Jacob Karam. He is getting a lot of looks from D-1 schools like Houston, Arizona, Mizzou, Rice and Stanford, based on scout.com. Any school would be glad to have him and for Hardin to score 25 on a 5A school with a big time talent at QB is impressive (even though it was a loss.) Klein has one in Jamie Peebles, who has garnered a lot of interest (he is only a soph) from schools like Houston, UT and others.
  7. Whoa there! QB Jeremy Johnson belongs to us - THE SILSBEE TIGERS - (unless he's been traded and I didn't approve that trade). whoops!! My bad... ;D I take that back....SILSBEE'S Jeremy Johnson impressed me as did Jasper's QB. Sorry Tigers fans...(Silsbee is the Tigers, right?) Yeah, you should have seen the season ender last year between Silsbee and Jasper at Jasper. Both QB's were all over the field. Unfortunately for us (Silsbee) the Jasper QB was causing more scoring! What a game though. (You better be kidding about "Silsbee is the Tigers, right?" Are you from around here? ???) yes, I am kidding about the "Silsbee is the Tigers, right"; I am from around here : We go through Silsbee all the time going to Lake Sam Rayburn. Seriously, sorry about the mixup about the QBs. No problem! And if you can't stop and visit on your way to the lake, at least honk and and say "Hey Tigers" as you go past the stadium. I'll try to remember to invite you to one of the Silsbee home games in the 2008 football season. I'll guarantee that if Johnson plays in the game, he will do some-thing that makes you go, "What the H??? was that!" I appreciate the invite...I may just do that...come up and watch Silsbee play. We happen to pass by the Silsbee HS every time we go to the lake and it is a gorgeous campus (even though the view is obscured by all those car dealerships ). I have never seen the stadium...is it as good looking as the school?

  10. It is not much, but there is a nice pic of the 2 advancing teams from the Hardin SQT: Hardin and Jasper. see link... [Hidden Content] It is amazing to learn that the Jasper QB Jeremy Johnson is only a sophomore; I expect to hear great things about this kid before he is done.
  11. there may be some at scout.com...there was a guy from there taking pics/video. Re the Jasper team...I was very impressed with their athleticism..very very quick...especially #11, he knew how to find an open seam. Jasper QB has a good arm and looks very quick...coverage defense was a bit iffy since Hardin beat them 45-27 (or something like that).
  12. and Piratesworld needs to be working on his GRAMMAR. Jeez, lighten up...it's only 7-on-7...it is good for conditioning, good for the QB/WRs to work on timing/routes/and for the QB to learn his WRs tendencies...this could help in a real game. So what if there is no offensive line?? So what if Crosby would rip Hardin in a real game?? It's good for the kids in a lot of ways, not to mention that it is fun for them. Just say "good game" and move on...no need to be negative.
  13. This isnt true at all Tramain not only played his game all year but was constantly helping his team mates telling them what their supposed to be doing. I thought it was the coach's job to tell the players what they are supposed to be doing, not the "team leader". It has been my experience that most, if not all, players that "constantly help...by telling them what they are supposed to be doing" usually are not that popular with the teammates. I mean that a player could be saying, "what a know-it-all!!" or "dang, I know what I am supposed to be doing...I don't need my teammate telling me what I am doing wrong." Being a team leader is more than that...like being respectful to officials, having a positive attitude, etc. BTW, if McDonald played hurt, what would he have looked like 100% healthy? He looked really good when I saw him play.
  14. Yes, Hardin made the playoffs...was the third 24-2A team behind Kountze and EC. A lot of that had to do with Marsh. Ok folks, why is it that no one has answered my previously posted question? As long as we are pointing out the differences in Tremain Thomas and Daniel Marsh, try to see how they would be if they played for the other school...TT for Hardin and Marsh for EC. Would it be different?? Yes it would. TT would play the same post spot Marsh did for Hardin. Why? because, like Marsh, TT is around 6'2 or 6'3 and that would make him the tallest player for Hardin....and the tallest player tends to be the post (not always, but usually). On the other side of the coin, we have Marsh at EC. Next to McDonald or even Raymond, Marsh would not be the tallest player and therefore not a post. More than likely he would have been a 2 or even a 3. Who would have had the better basketball career then? Since this is a hypothetical scenario, we will never know... DV...I have had a lot of respect for your previous posts on other threads. It is obvious you do know a lot of basketball. However, it is not smart to say that one player is better than another when you/anyone else hasn't seen the other kid..not unless the one kid was a Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant/NBA superstar clone (which TT is not). Now this is not a knock on him...I just believe he is a lot better at football than basketball which is saying a lot (meaning...extremely talented in FB vs. talented in BB). I wish him well at Arkansas.
  15. Sigh.... Dickie, Dickie, Dickie....ok, first of all...where in my posts did I knock TT? I did no such thing no matter how hard you look. I have said that TT is a very good basketball player and I said the same about Marsh. I have a lot of respect for TT and what he has done. However, I agree with baseball25...Marsh has a better shot than TT. You know what...I am getting a bit tired with your constant harping on the subject of "he is just a 6'2 post player" when you didn't even attempt to answer my question about role reversal...i.e. TT for Hardin and Marsh for EC. Could it be that I could have been spot on about your boy TT? Could he have brought Hardin as far as he did with EC?...cough...supporting cast...cough Would TT be another Marsh at Hardin and not getting any love and Marsh getting all TT's "D-1 and Gamble team" love? (remember the roles/players are reversed...) with this scenario in mind...I bet you would be saying TT is "just another 6'2 post player" while singing Marsh's praises (roles are still reversed in case some people are confused).
  16. lloyd.. Larry Bird is my favorite basketball player of all time, but your statement about "a great athlete does not always make a great basketball player" doesn't hold water where Marsh is concerned. He knows his stuff...if you have watched him like you say then you would have seen him try to do everything possible to help his team win...passing out of the box, rebound, even sometimes taking the ball on point for a fast break plus the softest shot I have ever seen. Now, I have not argued nor will I argue that Tramain should have not made the Gamble team. He is a good player in his own right as is Marsh. The only concessions I make about it is that TT is quicker on the court than Marsh and ballhandling edge does go to TT strictly because he was primarily a 1 or 2 guard while Marsh was a post for his team. This brings me to DickieV...Marsh is only a post player by circumstance (as you would know if you had read my earlier post). Being the tallest player on the team tends to make you a post. No, he would not probably have done as well against 6'6" or better post players (although he probably could outrebound them due to his Rodman-like leaping ability) but I think he would have done well as a 3 or even a 2. DV, the only problem I had with your posts in this particular thread is that you dismiss him too quickly by citing "2A" level and "6'2" post". That kind of thinking is narrow. Instead, try thinking outside the box by asking..."do you think Marsh would have done well as a guard like TT?" Weighing the pros and cons of that would have been a better alternative than just flat out saying "oh, no...he can't play with the big boys...he was only a 6'2" post shooting over 5'11 cones...It doesn't matter whether I watched him or not...yadda yadda yada." Look at it this way...what if the positions were reversed? TT played for Hardin and Marsh played for EC. TT probably would be a post just like Marsh was due to his height advantage over the other Hardin players...while Marsh probably would be a 2 or 3 due to McDonald and Raymond on the inside. Who would have had the more basketball success there?
  17. DickieV...I have pretty much respected your opinion until now. Your argument about comparing Marsh and Thomas is weak. You keep saying "he is probably a decent player" and that suggests that you have never seen him play. Stop with the comparisons if you have seen one player but not the other. I have seen both Marsh and Thomas play. Marsh is every bit the athlete TT is...like baseball25 says, TT had a better supporting cast than Marsh so it seems like TT is the better athlete. Also, he was in his post position because he was the tallest player (at Hardin) and his jumping ability. If we had a Vance McDonald inside then he would have killed you softly from outside (definitely 15 foot range, if not 3s) If you took both players off their respective teams, the teams would suffer, but EC would have not have suffered as much as Hardin. Vance McDonald is a very good and consistent player as is Donte Raymond. You would be hard pressed to say who would do well for Hardin if Marsh was not on there. There are some good athletes at Hardin but none as consistent as Marsh, unless you count Hunter Davis. So please stop with the uninformed arguing...
  18. read the thread starter again...it says "off. MVP" of district. That means offensive MVP.
  19. or check the local tractor places like John Deere or such...sometimes they have to replace the tires on tractors and they probably recycle them, but it wouldn't hurt to ask if you could have one or two old ones.
  20. I believe he is the OC there...wasn't he a Liberty boy as well...went to UH, I think. As far as "the guy from Jacksonville", he is a pretty good guy and from what I hear, a pretty good coach himself.
  21. In the TABC poll, it's all about who-knows-who, but I'll say this, it's a GREAT thing for Kountze and East Chambers not be ranked in the playoffs because teams won't really know what to expect from both EC or Kountze. I think they will again meet up in Tyler at Regionals. Not if they play like they did against Warren (meaning EC). Pretty soon they will run into a team that will have an athlete to harass Thomas defensively. Not to take away from Raymond or McDonald, but TT is the heart and soul of that team...they will live or die (figuratively speaking) with him. warfan...I realize that it probably won't make you feel any better, but Warren is one of the more fundamentally sound basketball teams I have seen this year and they are old school (meaning they play the game the way it is supposed to be...straight up defense, good shooting and passing..none of the hip-checking, rough-house play that is becoming more prevalent these days). It is easy for someone to hip-check/hand-check/grab jersey to impede progress by a ballhandler and make them mess up with the ball...leading to turnovers. No one wants to take the time to learn timing and being intelligent about the game in order to be a defensive presence on the hardwood. Case in point, Hardin played Anahuac last night and, boy, let me tell you, Anahuac is FAST and their timing was great a lot of times. They stole the ball because of great anticipation and quickness. They were a bit rough but so were we because the refs let the physical play go, but a very nice game to watch defensively.
  22. Was the ref aware of the five fouls accumulated on the player? because it is his responsibility to make sure the player who fouled out is off the court and on the bench...If he was aware and did not make sure that the coach knew he had five or at least informed the player that he had fouled out then the the official made a gross error. ECBucFan...I am sure that the Warren fans appreciate the good words said about their team, but the fact remains...EC is still a biased black hole for officiating. I am not complaining, griping or anything of the sort. I have accepted it because it has been this way for so long, going back to my playing days in the late 80's. It is a fact of life...like the sun being the center of the universe. The only thing that confuses me is why does EC even need help from the officiating? EC is a melting pot of talent and, make no mistake, they have almost always been good top to bottom. Let the kids battle it out and may the best team win!
  23. No, Kountze is outright district champs. I believe EC did have at least 2 losses.
