Absolutely ridiculous. Extracurricular is not a right its a privilege and the school should not be forced to allow participation. Chapter 37 of education says a student shall be removed and placed in a disciplinary setting if the superintendent or designee has reasonable belief the student committed a felony in Title V of the penal code whether on campus or not. This ruling has the potential to be a landmark type ruling.

A non enrolled student can not attend a class at school. You are in the school or you are not. I would hope most area schools do not even allow non enrolled school aged folks to be on the campus during school hours. If they do then they are opening themselves up for issues. Others issues are attendance based funding, liabilities, accountability,etc. If the state ever allowed this I cant imagine it ever being anything more than afterschool "club" participation. How long would it be until folks wanted transportation to and from? Where would it end? If you've made the decision to keep your child out of the educational aspects and opportunities of the district you've also made the decision to forfeit the privilege to participate in the non educational extra curricular activities. Schools are not Burger King......you do not always get things your way.

What is the offense going to be in the future? I've been told they are leaning to Slot/wing T and a few parents are upset. Some possibly wanting to transfer.

Silsbee kids played hard but it was evident a lot of those turnovers were just sloppy play by WOS. It was good to see some fire. Silsbee offense is nonexisistent. Sad really to go from breaking records to this. The kids need to just keep working.

If Livingston did indeed intentionally try to manipulate the numbers (as I've been told) there should repercussions. Not only have they help create scheduling nightmares for some schools they will cost those who did right thou$and$ in tickets, concessions, etc if they can not find another opponent. Pathetic.

Doesn't BISD pay retirees a percentage of their accrued sick days when they retire? If so how big of a check is the district fixing to have to cut? Is Lambert fixing to get another check?

City Hall and a district office are two totally separate entities. There are no oversights between the two. Since some like to speculate what if an individual was to have recieved their outrageously high salary totally above board on the (undocumented)condition a few "kickbacks" were to come to those who insured/granted that high salary? Knowing how the state retirement works, that individual's retirement would be based on the average of their 3 highest years forever upon retirement. For example if an individual had 33 years at retirement they would be entitled to approximately 75% of the average of their top 3 years salary under the state's formula. Do the math.......It may not be a sprint but rather a totally above board marathon with those who hosted the event having dirty hands.

In the beginning it seemed like he was merely the fall guy. I felt bad for him but that quickly changed. With everything blowing up he had the opportunity to distance himself from the past but instead he has appeared to embrace/defend it. He could have came in and sent some of those like Lambert and Haynes packing. That TEA response "press conference" was a sham. The hiring of the football coach was poor decision making as is continuing to pay the old coach. There is really only two ways to view him: as part of the old regime who has tried to continue the corruption or as an inept idiot who has no decision making skills.

Much ado about nothing anyone should be concerned with.  It's cleared with the Uil.  This is nothing more than what some others in district including HJ and WOS have dealt with in the past.  Time to look forward to the season.

Bonds are not to be used for salaries.  Bonds are monies voted on by the tax payers that are above and beyond the regular property tax.  Regular property tax rates are at maximum allowed by law in nearly every district.  So no monies used to pay a bond can not be used for salaries. In regards to those who say get rid of those with 25+ years nearly every head coach around here has close to that if not more. So are those folks wanting the hc/ad fired as well?  Lots of misinformation out there.  The best one is the 1:1 ratio and how in the 70s it was a 5:1 teacher to nonclassroom personnel.  The state did not even keep record of those extra folks until the 80s. The ratios have been consistent for many years.

Stadiums and new schools are bonds not the root or cause to the crisis.  If you want some incite check this site out www.texasisd.com. The financial situation is based on a 2006 property tax rollback followed by a then new business tax that did not meet projections and backfill the property tax cuts.  Strayhorn predicted and warned Perry in 06 that there would be a 26 billion shortfall and she was right.  This is not on the back of school districts but rather Perry and the legislature.  My prediction is a special session and further tapping of the rainy day thus allowing the newly elected legislators an opportunity to save face.

No more than 1200 tix will be sold.  Remember the district has boys and girls games at same location this year.  Doors will be locked once sold.

I visited with WV's qb coach most of the night at the Navasota game.  He told me he'd love to be able to redshirt JJ to "thicken" him up but he'd probably get a shot next year.  They currently have just one freshman ahead of JJ.  JJ is the only Texas recruit and would be only Texas player on the team according to him.

As cool as it was to see all of the fishermen and actually fish there, it is causing bad erosion.  Well before Ike you could see the currents etc on the satellite pictures and see the beach sediment going into the bay area.  Nobody can deny the beaches were larger 25-30 years ago.
