  1. Let me just say that year in and year out you guys have the best fans I have ever seen.  Just a freaking incredible turnout.  And everyone of them is involved in what’s going on.  I love my alma mater, and there was a period of time from 2000-2011 where they showed out, but you go now and half the people who do go are on their phone.  Congrats, and y’all gonna win by 10.

2nd round. Only time we've met.

    11/29/86   WOS  23-7  Brenham

Always loved playing after Thanksgiving. Good luck this week against PNG.

Actually, it was our third playoff game.  We were split into two zones in our district, and the zone playoff was the first playoff.  Hey, it was a good game in the first half. We were beat up.  Three offensive lineman sick or hurt. RB too.  We wouldn’t have won anyway, but it definitely put a damper on things.

Its still an honor to play Brenham. Such a classy program.

It is very much an honor.  I’m an old school Cub and I have never stopped being involved on some level.  We had a good team.  I played at the old stadium on behind the old school on market street.  We ran into a buzz saw in the third round my senior year.  West orange stark dropped from 5A, and were too much.  I miss Coach West, and all of his assistants that built that program into one of the best in the state from 2000-2017.  Hopefully the second choice after he left will be a better coach than that clown.  From 2020-2021.

Hearing some strings were pulled to get this game. Former alumni helped. Two historical programs. Brenham has great fans and its always a pleasure to play them. Very similar to playing Dayton. Classy program top to bottom. I also wish we could play with the awesome PAM team.

Our fan base has lost a lot of steam and numbers over the past 6-7 years.  I noticed it first in 2014.  Can’t explain it, but I would be willing to bet that your fans will double(or more), our fans.

PNG has a legit shot here.  Brenham is solid but nothing special.

Yeah, we just don’t have the animals up front like we did in prior years.  Good skill position players, with good speed.  New coach has a wide open offense as opposed to the run first philosophy like before.  They are alright, kinda inconsistent.  They had Lake Creek on the ropes in the 4th qtr a couple weeks ago before we made a couple is stupid mistakes and Lake Creek scored twice in like two minutes.  It’ll be competitive.

Chance for revenge for the 2009 loss. Excited for this game.

Crazy game.  We had three games in a row that year that had very stressful endings.  We are decent I guess.  Talent pool is way down compared to the onslaught of talent that went on for about 15 years or more.  Coach West is gone, then they hired some guy that really hurt the program the two years he was there.  The jury is still out on their new guy.  I can say one thing.  They do seem like they are more disciplined and in better shape than they have been.  We always have had great speed.  Size is an issue right now.  I see PNG winning this game.  Hate to say it, but that last coach set us back.  Good luck

  7. Man, I hate being in Region 4.  There are some competitive teams.  Calallen, Tivy and Calhoun are probably tops out there.  The reason I don’t like it is that it’s a two to three hour drive to almost every game.  I’m hearing the way things are shaping up that we will be back in region 3 next year, but who knows what the UIL will come up with.  There are just too many schools opening up all over.  I think we give Calallen a good game.  Our offense is legit, it’s the defense that worries me.

  8. My brother and I regularly make the trip to championship weekend, wherever it is played.  I have spent the whole extended weekend in Dallas three times, and was at NRG last year.  I can tell you straight up that there is no comparison.  The overall atmosphere at AT&T is much more electric.  Of course, the number one factor in this is that big screen, but there are may other factors that make it a great experience.  Music selection, and filming the fans during tv intermissions is very entertaining.   They do a great job up there.  NRG was not terrible, but they lack a lot in facility amenities AND effort.  None of my opinions are shaped by the Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans.

  9. I hope that you are correct, Coog.  I think that we surprised a lot of people by taking out Georgetown(including myself).  I feel like Consol is probably a little more physical up front than Georgetown was.  We lost a lot of kids to graduation two years ago and we feel like we are getting back to a higher level than that debacle last year.  From the outside looking in it looks like CC is strong again.  Good luck to you guys against Marshall, and hope to see y'all next week.

  10. Crosby stepped on the field last night with a 6A football team that was bigger, stronger, faster and executed a lot better from start to finish. They looked like they knew every play Crosby was going to run and Crosby looked lost on every play they ran besides the handoff up the middle.

Crosby wasn't that good. If you take into consideration that Crosby is 31-0  the last three years against all the SETX team that will be 5A next year, it really show the poor state of play in the entire area.

There was reason to believe the gap had closed after last year when the FB district's D2 teams couldn't advance past the first round. Turns out it was just a fluke year for them that Crosby probably benefited from.

As far as the small schools still alive from the area, they get a more even shake with the enrollment splits. RP had about 700 more kids than Crosby last night, 4A doesn't have that variation in their entire class and still have two divisions. Not to mention you have less than half they  schools in the class but still take the same amount of playoff teams which severely waters down the competition until you get deep in the playoffs.

At the end of the day even Crosby all their D1 recruits are no match for the teams out west at the 5A level. Last nigh made three consecutive 28 point playoff losses for Crosby. Even with this staff off to a 42-9 start you saw last night pretty much what Crosby is and what we have been for the last decade or so.

I watched the game online on Saturday, and I gotta say that what I saw was a Crosby team that physically looked far superior to RP.  I also remember our game with y'all last year and we were completely outmanned, especially defensively.  I saw big offensive and defensive linemen, big athletic linebackers, and big tall imposing wideouts.  I think that Crosby had a huge talent edge, and enrollment numbers didn't really apply in this particular situation.  Yes, enrollment numbers play a part in a lot of instances, BUT I also know that there are a lot of big 5A and 6A schools that cannot hold a candle to a lot of programs with mid level enrollment figures.  It's VERY hard to be on top, and I'm gonna use a couple of Brenham teams as examples.  In 2009, we surprised everyone and made a run all the way to the championship game, and gave Aledo all they could handle.  That team was made up mainly of sophomores and juniors.  In 2010 we went into the season ranked #2, rolled through the regular season unscathed, and got beat by Kingwood Park, a game where we turned the ball over six times.  In 2011, we were loaded AGAIN, ranked #2 and got beat in the second round by Beaumont Ozen in a game that seemed like we were playing with lead feet.  Both of those teams were loaded with Division 1 talent.  I feel like complacency, lack of focus and arrogance played a huge part in those losses.  My point is that talent definitely plays a part in a programs success, but coaching, preparation and focus is what truly makes a difference.  I would be willing to bet that Crosby has been a victim of some of the distractions that I have just touched on.  Distractions to a teenager if not handled correctly are a dagger to the heart of the team concept.  I know for a fact that Crosby was loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.  They just got lost in themselves against a dangerous team at the wrong time of year.  Plain and simple...

  11. Man what a game! The way it was looking early I thought Patterson was gonna take it upon himself to win it for Brenham, WRONG! That bend but dont break D by Crosby rose up. My only blemish is you guys shoulda ran the Soph #24 more when Brenham had no answer for him.

You are now in a REGIONAL FINAL! YOU GUYS SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOUR COACHES, KIDS AND COMMUNITY FOR BELIEVING IT COULD HAPPEN!

Crosby completely shut down our passing game. Good pass rush, and good secondary play.
  12. To the Brenham guys I apologize for the rift I just get a little passionate about our team and all the negative and unwarranted criticism they endure from past failures (Not by y'all). Periballo how proud you must be and according to the boys your son was a true and respectful competitor as well as the rest of the Lion Cubs. My son is #6 and had nothing but compliments and respect for Brenham and humbled me a little that there is a fine line between passion and being a fanatic. So tell them boys to hang their heads high cause they did leave it all on the field. May God bless you

You should be VERY proud of your son. That guy was getting open all night, and made several catches to keep drives going. Nothing wrong with being passionate about your team, especially if you have a kid out there playing. Again, carry the torch high and win the Region. I don't know much about Hutto, except that they are coached by former Friendswood coach, Steve Van Meter(sp?). I say you guys win by 10+. Good luck.
  13. If youre going to Wood Forest dont be late. 45 down to two lanes right at thr stadium exit andctraffic is BRUTAL!!!!!!! My advice is find a backroad if you can. Its ridiculous
Not to mention its Black Friday with that shopping Center in front of Woodforest.

I was there last night for the Brenham game, and YES it is insane. Get there early.
