You could have 5 maybe 6 (ofield) teams competing for the three playoff spots. Plus you're gonna have some great baseball between silsbee, Huffman, and bc.
Seems like it will become a stacked district on both sides. This would be a tough district in football, volleyball, cross country, baseball, softball, and track. I'm not sure if Huffman and Liberty would make the district tougher in basketball (I haven't watched either one of them play in a while), but I do believe you would see teams sitting at home that would be playoff teams if in a different district.
District 16-3A Rusk 570 Diboll 502 Huntington 544 Jasper 729 Center 624 Buna 477 ------------- District 20-3A Silsbee 822 Bridge City 762 West Orange-Stark 689 Hardin-Jefferson 570 Hamshire-Fannett 533 Orangefield Huffman Hargrave 962.5 Liberty
If that happens get ready for some good volleyball and distance races. I don't see that happening. Looking at mapquest (I know it may not be exactly accurate) for Huffman to leave their district they would have some MAJOR traveling. I think Huffman and Liberty stay where they are and Buna goes North and our district stays the same. It's going to an exciting day in Feb.

I see the same result coming but you never know. I would have never picked Willis to beat Brenham. It's why they play LaGrange. Orangefield vs. Columbus. Orangefield can win this game.
I see Columbus winning
I think it's going to be a great match if both teams show up and play good volleyball. OF has the ability to hang with Tarkington when they are playing good ball, they can take Columbus down if they play good ball.

Nederland usually has their meet the week of the 16th but on Friday. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing their meet will be on Feb. 17th.

I believe Buna turned in numbers that will likely move them to 3A. Any thoughts on what will happen to our local 3A district? Will Buna be added and carry 7 teams or will we see some type of shake-up?

Beaumont Ozen vs. Lumberton Match Thread/Ozen wins!
JSnipes replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Great job by Ozen but man, gotta feel for Lumberton. How many district matches have they lost 3-2? I think I've seen it 4 times this year. They win those 4 games they are in the playoff hunt. Hang in there and keep playing hard. -
Deweyville vs. Hardin Match Thread/Hardin wins!

Hardin's 1st in the district and Buna is 2nd. Is Deweyville tied with Kountze and Warren for 3rd? -
If what we are seeing in Volleyball right now translates somewhat into basketball, then it will make for an exciting season. I think we are seeing a great group of girls who work hard and compete very hard come through each school.

Yellow Card/Red Card Myth or Fact in High School Volleyball?
JSnipes replied to LR2014's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have seen the yellow card twice. First time in the playoffs several years ago, an excellent player for one team was taunting the other team after a dramatic kill. She should have received a red for continuing the behavior, but officials will hesitate before they issue a red because it usually involves paperwork and/or a trip to Austin. Saw the 2nd yellow on a coach complaining about disparity of calls between teams a couple of years ago. In my opinion, the coach was in the right because the official in question was following unwritten club rules where some lifting is allowed, but it was a high school match and lifting is strictly verboten. Regarding the difference between club play and high school play, I get frustrated with officials because they can't seem to separate between the two. Several of the larger schools in the area have access to club volleyball but the majority of the smaller schools (1A/2A) don't have club players. The only volleyball they play is for their school and they are taught to pass, set and hit in a certain way and they don't understand when another team (that has club players) gets away with a lift because the official also officiates club volleyball. I am not downing officials but it is a peeve of mine.
The game of volleyball is drastically changing. The calls in club volleyball (especially lifts) greatly differ from that in the High School game. I try to talk to officials as much as I can to understand more of what is changing on calls and how they are viewing calls. The explination I always receive on lifts is it's a judgement call on whether or not it is prolonged contact. The only thing that makes that tough is people may not judge things the same way. Every official is going to be different and the coach and team just have to their best to adjust to the calls that are being made. As a coach, all I want from the officials is consistency. An officials job is already hard enough...the fact that club seems to be called different than school ball doesn't make things any easier. A great majority of the officials that we have had in our games have been consistent. -
Hate to say it but, Richard Whitaker's run in Huntsville TX. vs. PNG was a great run. I know some Indian Fans remember it.
I was about to talk about this one. That was when they played Jacksonville correct? Best run I have ever seen in person...it was pretty amazing. I believe that TD was the game winner?

Yellow Card/Red Card Myth or Fact in High School Volleyball?
JSnipes replied to LR2014's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I've seen many yellow cards, but never on a coach. I've never seen a red card. I was talking with an official earlier this year about yellow cards and he said it just depends on the official. Some will use them faster than others, and some will probably never use them. There's not a set behavior to be carded. He said it's up to the official and how strict they are going to be. An example, my first year I had a player receive a yellow card (we took care of that behavior the next day at practice). After she hit the ball in the net, she hit the ball under the net to the other side out of frustration instead of rolling the ball. She received a yellow card for this behavior (and I don't disagree with the fact that she received one). However, I see this behavior all the time and never see yellow cards. I believe a lot of it is up to the opinion of the official and what behavior they are and aren't going to allow. -
Huffman vs. Tarkington Match Thread/Tarkington wins!

Tarkington has a great chance to win 3-0 every district game. They are rock solid. -

I might have some of the facts wrong here but this is the first game I remember watching...I was 5 or 6 1988 (could have been 89) PNG vs. A&M Consolidated at the Astrodome. I believe A&M won 35-0
The year was definitely 1989. The score however, I don't recall it being that big of a blow out (could be wrong).
You are correct. I just looked it up on UIL and it was 31-13. I guess my memory isn't so good :D

why is ozen looking for a new volleyball coach?
JSnipes replied to justaspectator's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think she has stopped coaching after her daughter graduated. She was a good coach. -
Carli Langley from HF and Kirby Shepherd, Armando Chavez, and Mary Nguyen all from BC have signed to run at Southern Arkansas University. Congratulations to all of these young men and women. Best of luck.

Holbrooks is very good coach.
The parents are involved kind of like Orangefield, only difference is kids at HF do not compare to talent or work ethic or ability of the Bobcats. Look at the hiring of the boys basketball job, they hired a girls coach and the girls basketball job had the first four turn down job because pay is so bad. Look at boys basketball, head coach and all asst. are not coming back, how do you get anyone to coach those boys. Also the comments on this board after a loss in any sport have to be deleted by admin because of the negative talk. Had a friend tell me that at least three employees have told family members not to apply for openings, at HF, how sad is that. Take their pay check but can't say it is a good place to work. Only school in Golden triangle that is this messed up.
I happen to work there and it's an absolutely great place to work. I left for one year to be closer to home after I got married but went back to HF after a year because myself and my wife missed the home atmosphere. One of three or four schools last year that were Exemplary all the way through. I don't believe that is too messed up... :)

Big Congradulations to WOS and Ozen. There is a lot of state champions, medal winners, and participants there. Amazing job. Looks like Southeast Texas was WELL represented. Great job everyone.
