There won’t be much of a choice if nobody wants the job.

True, but there is almost always someone who has been or is desperate to be a Head Football Coach, that will drop everything and take an opportunity. Especially when there is a chance to be good, to very good.

I know it is almost a month later, but a coach from a very successful larger school just dropped everything to take the Warren job.

To go into a situation this late in the summer with little to no chance of bringing help is not a step up..especially considering that it may not be that much if any of a pay raise.  In all honesty, it sounds like a career killer of a situation.

I think the best thing is to let one of the coordinators take on the roll of head coach and try hard for a new AD/HC next spring when there’s time given.

Ultimately, the question that leadership has to answer, is there anybody on staff that we trust to lead the program?

    Does H-D have a Superintendent?

Interesting.  I know the supt reached out to get him from PAM.  I wonder what direction they're going to go?

Very interesting, because he was the chosen one. Former PN-G offensive line coach that was hand picked by the Superintendent two years ago.

They have had some success, I thought he had them trending in the right direction.

I would have to say this may be the most back wood - none athletic competing - hold my beer "then bust his ARSE" statement I have read in a long time. Track & Field and Elite Track & Field takes more coaching than most sports including football. You show me a coach who can teach proper vertical or horizonal jumps technique and I will also show you a football coach who relies on just given the ball to the best athlete (which takes no coaching). A good track and field coach has to understand how to set up an actual training program for all athletes (runners, jumpers, throwers, distance, sprinters, hurdlers...) When you get into the major metroplex cities outside of SETX most HS only hire non football coaches as their Cross Country / Head Track Coaches, its very rare that you have football coaches as the Head Track/ Cross Country coach.

I will never put down the coaches of another sport, never.

And to be honest, yes an elite track and field coach has to be a master at a number of different techniques, especially in the field events and be able to train different athletes differently to ensure success.

However, to put down football coaches and say track and field coaches have to do more coaching is completely asinine. The last time I checked the track or the pit didn't play defense. Or the opponents you were competing against weren't trying to score on you. Football coaches have to teach the same intricate techniques that track coaches teach, all while putting in a game plan against an opponent and including the factors of teamwork and collisions and opposing coaches planning to stop what you are doing.

You are obviously not a high level football coach if you think track and field coaches have a more difficult job than football coaches.

Wow.  I guess some just keep going.  Me, personally.. nothing excited me more than retirement.

I get that, but for some of us coaching football is more than just a job. For a guy that loves football and is an offensive genius, there is no better life than to retire then be rehired to be an offensive coordinator. I'm sure he will have very few, if any classroom duties, and his sole purpose everyday is to come to work, plan practice and prepare to call plays on Friday nights and get paid to di it. All while drawing a full retirement check and a check for his limited work. Not very many better gigs than that for an Old Ball Coach.
