  1. AAW, it is important to remember that, as one of "those people down there" ( if you had said that, you would have been accused of being a racist) you lack the sophistication and understanding of basketball which is reserved for the enlightened few and you should not attempt to offer a thought or opinion since it has no value. Thanks for that piece of advice, nash. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut. Oh, and someone needs to tell Marquis Saveat that he shouldn't be participating in these "worthless" tournaments. Did anybody notice that Ozen lost to two 3A schools in this "worthless" tourney?
  2. Chris Stroud sits tied for 30th after the 3rd round, shooting a -2 68 today. He is at -4 206 for the tournament. Chris had 2 birdies and no bogeys in today's round.
  3. After three rounds completed: Andrew Landry shot -7 63, -7 203 T5 8 birdies, 1 bogey Shawn Stefani shot -5 65, -6 204 T8 5 birdies, no bogeys Dawie Van der Walt shot +2 72, -3 207 T21 5 birdies, 5 bogeys, 1 double bogey
  4. winners bracket: Silsbee 45 Cleveland 34 Silsbee to the finals losers bracket: Cleveland 48 Ozen 37 Ozen eliminated, gets 3rd place Championship Game: Cleveland 51 Silsbee 49 Cleveland 1st, Silsbee 2nd Game summary: After sitting for a few hours waiting on the loser bracket to finish, Silsbee came out extremely sluggish. Cleveland jumped out to a 18-4 lead as the Tigers looked like they were still sleeping. Cleveland was able to beat Silsbee down the court on several occasions for some easy buckets. The Tigers made a little bit of a run right before half but still found themselves down 28-14 at haftime. Silsbee's senior '6"7 post Avory Thomas was the only bright spot for the Tigers in the first half, scoring 8 points and collecting 5 boards with 2 block shots. Silsbee came out in the second half pressing and after 8 minutes of play, they had cut the 14 point margin in half. After trading baskets for the next couple of minutes, Silsbee went on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 49. Silsbee sent Cleveland to the line for a one and one with 16 seconds left and Cleveland missed the front end, Silsbee controlled the rebound but an errant pass was picked off by Cleveland and drew the foul going to the basket with 4 seconds left. He made both freethrows giving them the 2 point lead and Silsbee then missed a shot at the buzzer to end the game. Silsbee's slow start coupled with going 7 for 22 from the charity stripe ended their tournament run on a sour note. Silsbee had reeled off 7 victories with no losses coming into this championship game, with one of those victories a 11 point win over Cleveland. Congrats to Cleveland on the championship! Well done. All in all this was a fantastic tournament with alot of quality teams and players being on display. Even though some (one) thinks it was "worthless", you could not tell by how hard the players played and how exciting the games were. Many, many fans enjoyed themselves over the last 3 days. Thank you Travis, Ira, and J.C. for putting on a fine tournament and for allowing me access to the players, coaches, and teams. I had a lot of fun.

  7. I just got in from the tournament and will post all the scores and give a summary of the championship game along with a brief summary of the tourney in a few minutes. Or, I could not waste my time posting since DV says this is a worthless tourney. I'll just call Travis and let him know I won't waste my time helping him out. :
  8. I am back from the hospital and will head out to Silsbee High school to get all the scores and report on the championship game. It looks like Silsbee will face PA Heat in the finals. BTW DV, HJ did not beat Central, they lost. So I do not know what BIG HJ victory you are talking about.
  9. I was a little disappointed with Nederland also. Up until that last game last night, they really didn't look that good. Of course they are playing without Forney, Smith, and Torres. Also, they have played without a coach the whole tournament. Don't understand that. I will say that they looked a lot better last night against Anahuac in what was their only win of the tourney.
  10. I will agree that Lumberton caught the bad end of the draw. Having to play what is probably the best 3 teams in the tourney, is brutal. The Raiders looked good at times but they still lack shooting and ball control skills. Silsbee ate them up on the press. The couple of post players for Lumberton did handle their own against the taller Tiger posts, but Silsbee's overall team speed and quickness was too much for the Raiders. It should be noted that Silsbee sat their top 7 players the last 6 minutes of this game due to the fact that Silsbee had to play HJ the very next game. I thought Lumberton gave Cleveland a good game overall. That game stayed close up until the last 2 minutes, was just a 4 point game at that time. The PA Heat game can be just written off. That game was ugly and it didn't help that the Heat was "play grounding " it those last few minutes. Very uncalled for.
  11. Results after today's second round: Dawie -5 65, -5 135 T9 6 birdies, 1 bogey Shawn -1 69, -1 139 T29 6 birdies, 2 bogeys, 1 quadruple bogey (ouch!) Andrew E 70, E 140 T38 1 birdie, 1 bogey All three players made the cut. Stefani has 1 eagle, 10 birdies in two rounds but is only -1. Yikes!
  12. Chris moved up 34 spots to a tie for 31st after his second round score of -3 67. Stroud is -2 138, 7 shots back of the lead heading into the weekend. Chris had 5 birdies and 2 bogey in today's round.
  13. Here is the bracket for Saturday: PA Heat Kountze LCM HJ Central Cleveland Silsbee Livingston B. Select Anahuac Spurger Ozen First two games are at 9am, Kountze/LCM and HJ/Central. The 10am games are Livingston/B. Select and Anahuac/Spurger. PA Heat will play the winner of Kountze/LCM at 11am, Cleveland will play the winner of HJ/Central at 11am. Silsbee will play the winner of Livingston/B. Select at 12pm and Ozen will play the winner of Anahuac/Spurger at 12pm. Loser bracket games will start at 1pm The final will be played at around 8pm.
  14. Here are the final pool standings: Pool A Pool B Pool C Silsbee 4-0 Central 2-1 Ozen 2-1 LCM 2-1 Kountze 2-1 Anahuac 1-2 Spurger 2-2 Orangefield 0-3 Hardin-Jeff 1-2 Pool D Pool E Pool F Cleveland 3-0 PA Heat 3-0 Beaumont Select 2-1 Livingston 2-1 Nederland 1-2 Woodville 0-3 Lumberton 0-3 Ozen JV 0-3 These are the teams that qualified for bracket play: Silsbee PA Heat Cleveland Ozen Kountze LCM Central HJ Livingston Beaumont Select Anahuac Spurger these teams failed to qualify: Orangefield Lumberton Ozen JV Woodville Nederland
  15. Final 3 games of the night: Spurger 50 B. Select 43 Cleveland 48 Orangefield 27 Nederland 39 Anahuac 26 A few notes from today's games: I mentioned earlier that Spurger only suited out 5 players, very impressed with this team. In the Ozen/Anahuac game that Ozen won 36-28, this game was tied at half, 19-19. Anahuac played tough the entire game, Franks hit two big threes towards the end of the game to seal it for Ozen. Silsbee had to play back to back games, beating Lumberton in the first one, 59-35. Silsbee rested their top 7 players the last 6 minutes of this game to be ready for the next game against HJ. Silsbee defeated HJ 40-28 but this game was close for 3/4 of the game. HJ led 10-9 at half! Silsbee finally took the lead with 6 minutes left and then extended out to 10 with 3 minutes left and then held on for the 12 point win. Ozen/PA Heat, what didn't happen in this game? Heat coach was kicked out of the game half way through the first half, Franks of Ozen was kicked out right before half, and then a Heat player walked off the court at halftime, leaving the Heat with just 5 players. Mouths were constantly running during the first half and it took several technicals and the two ejections to finally calm things down. The Heat ended up winning this one 45-41, as Ozen missed Franks scoring ability. I will be curious to see what team the Heat brings with them tomorrow.

  20. Yea, down as in 2nd in district, at least 3 rounds deep in playoffs. : You know LAZEEK, those Orangefield folks think this is the year for them to beat you guys.
  21. Okay, now that the hacker Tiger is out of the way, who wins this one? Of course, I am pulling for old man Tom Watson. But I think Vijay will win this one.
  22. Like I said, I'll take the field every time.
  23. I understand. Sorry.
  24. I watched Silsbee dismantle a decent Woodviile team last night, 58-18. I then watched HJ finally put away a Nederland team after really letting them hang around too long. Nederland was kind of dissappointing to me. Gus, Turner and Ricossa are doing a pretty good job of leading this team, but they need more help. I did not get to see their loss to Anahuac but Todd told me about it. I watched Anahuac lose to Beaumont Select, was not impressed with either team. You and I both know that when these two schools play each other, regardless if it's district, playoffs, or summer league, the level of play increases for both teams. If our other '6"7 player (Jones) shows up, Silsbee will take this one. He hasn't played a game in this tourney yet.
