Silsbee Tiger statistical leaders/ thru March 7
AggiesAreWe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I look for Prentice and D.C. to step it up in the scoring department. Also look for Kelton Gaines to score more. Eddie Fobbs holds the current single season block shot record at Silsbee with 162. Avory currently has 134. -

Silsbee's Avory Thomas on pace to break the single season record at Silsbee for block shots. Also the team is on pace for the team block shots record. -
[Hidden Content] WOW!!! Livingston fell completely out of the poll!
-
[Hidden Content] Only local teams to move up were PAM up 2 to #19 and Spurger up 1 to #24. No local team fell out of the polls.
-
I'll give Silsbee an A overall. Of late, I'll give them a B.

What in the world is goin on with Tarkington?!
The basketball gods of Silsbee and HJ have spoken... Are were you fishing for someone who actually knows something about the team to respond?
Actually Hup, I saw Tarkington play twice this season, at the EC tourney. I am sorry, I wasn't too impressed. But, if it makes you feel any better, they are better than they have been in the past. ;) -
the woodville tournament will not be a good measuring stick the Rebels played that tourny like they didn't want to be there look at the matchups on the floor there is no better shooter is southeast texas than Murphy i'd put him against any one in 3 point rangehas the prettyest shot around and stark and tucker are real good in the paint if we had a true point guard we would be hard to beat with a little more practice at point harrington will be just fine and we have a good bunch on the beanch
As one that has seen both teams, I would say that Spurger's Blankenship is a better shooter than Evadale's Murphy. You mention that you guys don't have a true point guard, guess what, Spurger does. McGallion is one of the best in this area. As for Evadale's inside game, I like Stark a lot, but I'll still take Spurger's Whittaker over him. Again, I have seen Evadale play 4 times this season (twice in the Woodville tourney, twice at the Evadale tourney), Spurger 4 times. IMO, Spurger has the better overall team.

I have seen all 3 teams play (Spurger and Evadale both played Silsbee) and Spurger wins this district hands down. They have the better team and the better players. Evadale and SP will battel for second with the other getting 3rd. I can see SP defeating Evadale at their place. We'll see. Neither team will beat Spurger.
I will admit that the Rebels played badly against Silsbee, but since both teams (Evadale and Spurger) lost to the tigers by wide margins, I am not sure you can make the comparison. I know that Spurger has a talented team and has shown well in most all of their games this season. But the Rebels have begun to gel as a team. There were some rough spots around the holidays, but those seem to be in the rear view mirror now and the offense and defense are coming together nicely. The combination of Stark and Tucker on the inside and Murphy and Totten on the outside can be difficult for teams to match up with. Herrington is adjusting to his point guard role and he had a three point shot as well if team sag ito the paint. The offense is sroring over 60 points in district while limiting teams to under 35, even with the SP points last Friday. The Rebels are also seeing great pressure from their substitues on the press. There are six fresh bodies that can come in off the bench and keep the pressure on. SP went up early by 12 on the Rebels, but the pressure wore them down and allowed the Rebels secure the victory in the end. The Rebels and the Pirates seem to be on a colision course with both teams being 3-0 now with one game each before they meet on Friday. I believe that if the Rebels continue to play team ball and continue to improve the score and even the outcome could be different than the prediction will be going.
I can make the comparison because I have seen both teams play. Yes, they both lost badly to Silsbee, but if you would have watched each game, you would have seen that Spurger played much better than what Evadale did against the Tigers. Based on what I have seen, Spurger is the better team and will beat Evadale. But they still have to play the games.

BTW, what's Sam's largest crowd this year?
I am sure you can ask the PA announcer at Lamar! He seems to be getting good numbers from somewhere... ::) Looks like our top crowds were 1787 against TXST and 1564 against SFA. The TXST game was the first one back for the students while SFA was prior to the "re-arrival" after the break at semester and as I've said before, unlike Lamar, which relies on the community, SHSU basketball relies more on the students. Figure we'll start topping 2000 pretty soon and if in position for something special at the end, 2500 to 3000 easy, like it was in in 03.
I think he was talking about SHSU basketball, not football. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol.
LMAO!!!! Good one UNLV. -
Houston Yates vs Memorial IF

I like Memorial's chances against Yates. I would still pick the Lions by about 12-15. -
I hate to say this but Hawkettes will win this game by 6. No Pheal Hill and a limping D.C is just too big of a lost. Think about this. Those other players aren't use to these type of games. Those 2 players been dealing with Hj for the last 3 or 4 years. Turner will have a field day on the new guards. Silsbee will have 5 players in there that haven't played in this Rivalry yet. Hj has about 10. So experience will be the reason Hj wins. "Lack of" will be Silsbee's problems
I don't know where you get 5 players. The only two that will probably see the floor with any significant minutes that hasn't played against HJ at the varsity level is Barrett and Gaines. Now if Simmons and Lockett see the floor, that would make 4. Harris, Lane, Thomas, Stallworth, and Jones played against HJ last year. Lane only once, the win at HJ. He was injured in the loss at Silsbee, did not play. -
We lost by 15 to westbury. Yates beat westbury by 30. I think we have a pretty good chance because we love to go up tempo. As soon as the ball is out the net we we're going up the floor with it, not giving them time to set up in the press. We would have to deny Peters the ball the whole game and we could because we go 12 deep. They only beat us by 30 last year, but we r so much better, but so r they. ;D
That's two different Westbury's. PAM played Westbury Christian, the #1 ranked private school in the state. Yates played Houston Westbury, just another 4A public school in the inner city, Yates district foe. Westbury Christian is much better than Houston Westbury. -
Silsbee should be considered the favorite with or without Hill.
Disagree. HJ is the definite favorite going into this Friday's game.
Dont know how you can say that. You have two definite advantages. 1. Playing on your homecourt 2. Swag will be pulling for you
Homecourt didn't matter much last year. Both teams won on the road. Silsbee playing without their leading scorer is a disadvantage. That's how I say that. ;) -
