It's simply amazing to me that one poll as West Brook at #9 in the state and another has them at #48!!! I can see where polls would be different, even as much as 10-15 spots, but not 39 spots!!!

This was the case back in 2006 season. Jasper and Silsbee were playing a district game and Silsbee was leading 35-0 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter when a huge storm blew in, lot's a lightning and wind. Officials waited for 30 minutes and then they called the game, Silsbee winning 35-0. Everyone, including the Jasper coaching staffs, were good with the decision. It was for the best in many ways. ;)

Stats for this weather shortend scrimmage: (kept only first team stats for both teams) Huffman 1st possesion:  5 plays, 70 yards, 2 first downs, touchdown                     8 yard TD run ( big plays were a 42 and 25 yard pass completions) 2nd possesion: 3 plays, 0 yards, turn on downs 3rd possesion: 8 plays, 26 yards, 2 first downs Orangefield 1st possesion: 3 plays, 5 yards, fumble 2nd possesion: 11 plays, 70 yards, 5 first downs, touchdown                       16 yard TD run (big play was a 15 yard pass completion on 3rd and 12) 3rd possesion: 6 plays, 28 yards, 2 first downs scrimmage then called due to weather Totals Huffman 16 plays, 96 yards, 4 first downs, 1 TD Orangefield 20 plays, 103 yards, 7 first downs, 1 TD

It has alot to do with last year!  I think ranking wise they are where they need to be.  Nederland had their struggles last year and there is nothing in place that would suggest anything different.  Most preseason rankings are a combination of what they did last year combined with what they have coming back and are expected to do this year. Therefore, in my opinion Nederland is where they need to be and if they have improved and get the wins that matter then they will end up where they deserve.   [/quote] You tell'em rykerx. I agree that Silsbee will be different.

Just to explain the points, a team gets 15 points for a 1st place vote, 14 for 2nd, 13 for 3rd and so on and so on. That's why you see West Brook with 150 points. There are 10 pollsters and all 10 voted them #1. Now, as to why West Brook was voted #1 or why any of the other teams got voted in whatever spot they ended up in, I believe it to be a multitude of reasons. But that's how the points work. I answered your question about the points but to answer any questions as to how a team was voted would be pointless. ;D
