According to DCTF, these are how many returning letterman and starters each team has for this coming season:                        Letterman        Starters O/D Bridge City             16                    7/5 Hamshire-Fann        19                  10/9 Hardin-Jefferson      12                   6/4 Orangefield             13                   5/6 Silsbee                  15                    8/7 WOS                     20                    6/7 All this time, I thought the Mustangs had 19 returning starters. ;) ;D I guess that's what I get for taking the word of a certain LCM grad. ;) ::)
maybe you would enjoy these boards more if you would just spend more time fixating on WO-S . . .
My post is strictly about a certain WOS fan that gave out false info. ;) Haven't you figured that out yet? Jeez!!
 4. I just drove thru the middle of my town, Silsbee, after coming back from the hospital in Beaumont. I just saw about 15-20 kids walking in a group thru the middle of town with about 6 of them carrying or dribbling basketballs. By the looks of their sweaty shirts and shorts, it looks like these young men had been hooping somewhere today. ;)
 5.
A real stand-up guy and a Republican at that.  I often go to him when I want to know how the other side of the political spectrum is thinking.....
I know some nutty Republicans too, just not as many as the Dems I know. ;)
 6. Curious to see who they hire. Maybe some hot shot assistant from a very successful local small school basketball program that doesn't employ the "universal training" has applied and will get the job. ;D He always told me all he needed was athletes. ;)

Where was he before Newton hired him?
Kind of complicated. He was at WOS last few years as their JV basketball coach but was just hired at Silsbee a month ago to be an assistant at Silsbee. He then took the Newton job leaving Silsbee short a coach for now.

I'll call it BISD Stadium until the 2012 school board election rolls around and some changes are made in upper management.
Changing the name won't matter because nobody in the modern history of BISD ever took on such a rebuilding project of the district.  You WestEndCryBabies will know the name of Butch and like it lol...... Waiting til 2012.  That's ridiculous.....
without the WestEndCryBabies...Bisd would be bankrupt -AGAIN- and playing where?  royal purple stadium?
We would get annexed by PNG and become PNGISD!!!
Ah, no.  As long as BISD had Exxon/Mobil, they wouldn't need you secessionist.  Besides, like a dentist friend of mine said today concerning the petition, "They are opening a can of worms and I didn't sign it...."  I'll do my part to get the vote out on both sides of the freeway to defeat the ballot initative IF it makes the ballot.....
Being that he/she is a dentist, makes him/her qualified. ::) I know some nutty dentists too. ;)
 9.

H.S practice especially jv and varsity shouldn't be a whole lot of skills practice it should be practicing plays and defenses skiLls come from the park and driveway
lol!  WOW!  "skills come from the park"  LMAO!  coaches spend 4 years trying to get kids to unlearn the crap they learn at the park...this post tells me a lot
WOW!!! Indeed! "Skills come from the park"?? Clueless, simply clueless.
 10. Even though we are letting 3 and 4 teams make the playoffs these days, it's still a big deal to those teams to make the playoffs. Success is definitely measured differently by folks but to say a school is not successful in a sport because they have not won a state championship is ludicrous.
 11.

In Anahuac they do a universal offseason.  They made the playoffs in football. They made to the Regional Finals in basketball. They made the playoffs in Baseball and sent 23 kids to regionals in track.  They lift and do agility everyday but game day.  Universal offseason works.
It works at the 2A level.  Not at 3A and above!
So, it's okay if East Chambers and Kountze uses the universal theory. True Clueless, are you listening. ;)
 12. I am hearing that there is a change in the Silsbee scrimmage schedule. According to some of the Kirbyville fans, Silsbee is too scared to even scrimmage Kirbyville therefore Silsbee is opting to scrimmage either Southlake Carroll or North Shore. Also, WOS has asked Silsbee to drop LCM from their scrimmage schedule so that they can get a piece of LCM since they do not play them in the regular season any longer. Silsbee and Nederland may be scrimmaging each other now. ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D
 13. As for universal training goes, this is how I feel and how some coaches that I know feel about it. I am in agreement with this following statement: Universal off- season should be just that, workouts performed during each sports offseason. The basketball problem is this: the athletic period is when most of the peripheral and  basic skill work takes place ie.. inbounds plays, special situation work and plays, position specific work, rebounding, dribbling, and shooting drills, etc. In football much of this same time is spent working "peripherals" such as kickoffs, punts, returns (both k/o and punt) among others and in both sports team work is usually reserved for afterschool practices, (putting  all the work together). The way universal off -season is being run deprives other sports of this valuable time while allowing football to remain able to use this same valuable time. The other sports deserve to have this time as well when they are "in season". This says it all.

I totally understand the arguements for both sides of this topic of "universal training". But my question is this, what are schools like HJ and Kountze doing to enhance their football programs? Football at these schools are greatly lacking in success. Why is that? Is it because they don't do "universal training"?
Come on AAW there is not a school in the state of Texas that does not do ENOUGH to make there football program succesful.  Very weak and you know why HJ is not winning in football.
If you are going to compare football to basketball, you must consider the numbers involved.  If you have 6 solid basketball players, you  have a great chance to do well.  You need three times that many to have that same chance on the football field.  I wonder why Lufkin Hudson has such a good basketball program.  I dont think it has anything to do with Universal Off Season.
Again, another bad example. Hudson does not play football. My question was what were schools like HJ and Kountze doing to enhance their non -successful football programs. I was not questioning if they were doing enough or not.
 15.
Aaa....that was my point exactly about ponder thnx for proving it...
I believe the topic was of comparison. If you don't play the other sport (football) obviously you have more time to devote to basketball skill training. I think using an example of a school that doesn't play both sports is not a fair example of this subject matter. BTW, nice use of the 3rd person. ;)

 17.
Got one word for ya...ponder....think they spend their time in off season while they were busy winning three of the last four state titles
They haven't been playing football up until this season. ;) Bad example.

 20. I don't think you can label Silsbee as a basketball school. Yes, we have had more success in that sport, but Silsbee prides themselves on being good in every sport. I think it has shown over the last several years in that Silsbee has had more success in multiple sports than the other 21-3A schools, both boys and girls combined. Of course it does help that Silsbee is the largest school in the district. ;) Football is still king in Silsbee, but basketball has had more success. Bottom line, if you are to label Silsbee, it should be an Athletic school. ;D

 22. Congrats Shannon!! Hope you do well at Blinn and that this is just a stepping stone to Aggieland!!!! WHOOOOOOOOP!!!
 23. I can speak for Silsbee's AD in that he wants all the school's sports to succeed. McGallion knows what kind of success the basketball program at Silsbee has had for many decades. He is not going to do anything to jeopardize that success. I think it's not fair to be lumping every AD into your assessments of how school athletics are run.
 24.
Disagree, if you look at WOS last year those were straight bball kids on the court.  All I am saying is I watched kids last year who were having to max out on game day because a football coach said they should.  My son plays fball as well and his time was spent on game day watching film not maxing out. In order for our baseball team to be able to use their period as they wanted the kids would have to be at the fieldhouse before school to complete their off season workout even though most did not even play football.  All I am saying is if you are going to do it on bball game day do it on the beloved Friday night.
It's my understanding that Francis, Villory-Griffin and Cotton all played football. Those were three of the five starters for the Mustang basketball team. Only Davis and Budwine did not play football.
 25.
here's the difference between the "known" basketball programs (kountze, silsbee, hj, ozen).  1st of all, they don't have to worry about the football coach taking them on game days because a lot of those kids, the better ones especially, are strait basketball kids.   Also, kids at those schools play basketball RELIGIOUSLY all year.  ALL YEAR.  Those kids have open gyms once or twice a week throughout the year.  Football season, BASKETBALL season, summer, it doesn't matter.  They play all of the time.  That's why they're good. Plus they have tremendous athletes.  That never hurts.  Hamshire doesn't have those types of athletes, or play enough
A little FYI. Silsbee's basketball roster for last season had only 5 straight basketball players on the team with 8 football/basketball players on the team. Three of the straight players started (Stallworth, Jones and Thomas) and 2 of the football players started (Hill and Lane). Next season's roster looks to have the same number of straight and football players but it looks as though only two of the straight players will start (Stallworth and Harris). Lane, Gaines and one of the Barrett twins will start and each of them play football. There is still speculation that a couple of these straight players may play football this season. ;)
