Fact of the matter is the 4th team was put in place for Football purposes in mind. Bball was just lucky to fall in with it ;) Show me the $$$ made at the state tourney in Austin and i'll show you double (possibly triple) that with the $$$ made the last weekend before Christmas (State Title weekend) ;) UIL = $$$$$$
Yes, the football stadiums obviously hold more folks for the state title games than the Frank Erwin Center. But, those tickets only go for about what $8 bucks? I have seen state tourney tickets go for as much as $400 dollars. ;)
If Silsbee plays Yates 10 times, Silsbee loses all 10...Now AAW you said yourself that you would "rather not" ever play them again, right? Now in my book, that is the DEFINITION of NO CHANCE at winning against them....No they are not the team they were a few years ago, which would have been WORSE, but they are still just better...at this point. Do not know what the future teams may bring, but for now, there is NO CHANCE. ;)
Nope. To be accurate, I stated I was a bit torn on the subject of playing Yates. Part of me wants redemption for Silsbee in a game they definitely had a CHANCE to win. Part of me feels like getting a rematch could possibly be worse. The "no chance" comments are ludicrous. Particularly from folks who did not attend the game. ;) ::)

I admit Silsbee hung around longer than most with Yates, but in the end they had no chance of winning. Yates is too deep.
That is like saying HJ had no chance at beating Silsbee this year
Very good point.

But ultimately nobody cares about district titles now do they?
I care about them. I personally think they have some importance.

Question, why is the championship game being played before the 3rd place game? -
Last time I checked a 15 point loss, in which Silsbee never got closer than 4 in the 2nd half is NO CHANCE. I admit Silsbee hung around longer than most with Yates, but in the end they had no chance of winning. Yates is too deep.
I think the "no chance" comment is a bit extreme. Game was tight throughout the entire game, even the 2nd half. Silsbee actually cut the lead to 3, 84-81, with 3 minutes left. But, Silsbee sort of panicked and starting putting up some three's that resulted into some long rebounds and snowbird layups for Yates in the closing 2 minutes. That is where the 15 point margin came from. Largest lead for Yates up to that point was a 10 point lead late in 3rd, 72-62. I believe Silsbee had an opportunity to win, even late in game. I have had some JY fans tell me that themselves last night. Things just didn't fall for the Tigers. Yes, Yates had something to do about that as well.

How will your district finish in 2013?
Hardin Jefferson ;) WOS OF HF Buna Silsbee
This post shows extreme lack of intelligence. Silsbee last? Only in an HJ fans dream. ;) ::) (oh, and I guess Bridge City isn't even relevant enough to list) -
How come these local teams trying to justify their local teams hung in there with with the once mighty JY? Yall lost- Ozen lost by three-still a lost.
I really do not see anyone disputing the loss. Me personally, Yates is the better team, no doubt. But they are not the 800lb gorilla that "some in the know" are trying to make them out to be. According to the "some" Silsbee and the likes shouldn't be able to stay on the same court as Yates. Even though it was a loss, JY fans admit this was in doubt till the very end.

No one is dodging anything (except maybe you in regards to my bet). ;) You stated that no Hardin County team would make regionals next year and I disputed that with scenarios that would put a Hardin County team at the regional tourney. You tried to throw something at me about my age and not remembering who Yates had returning yet that fact doesn't matter to Kountze being they do not play Yates and Silsbee or HJ in the fact that if one of those teams happen to finish 2nd in 21-3A, they would not face Yates till regional finals. You stuck your foot in your mouth again, and now wish to crawfish out of it.

C'mon DV, put your money where that big mouth is. ;) ;D
Maybe in your old age, you have forgotten that Yates returns Swift AND JC Washington next year along with the PG JoJo Anderson....It will be much of the same next year in region 3-3A... 8)
You do realize that 21-3A runner up would not see Swift, Washington, Anderson and the rest of Yates team till Regional finals. That means the runner up would make regional tourney. That is what we are discussing, Hardin County team making regionals. Should you even be coaching with that ineptness? ;)
I do not see anyone acting surprise. Only people that should be "surprised" is the the few "knowledgeable" ones who were calling for a 30-40 point win by Yates. ;) ::)
15, 20, 30....Its all being handled by double digits...easily... 8)
You yourself stated that if Silsbee tried to run with Yates they would lose by 40. ::) Well, Silsbee ran with Yates all night. In fact, it was Yates who finally slowed the game down late 3rd and in the 4th to protect the lead. I think this was a great decision by Coach Wise. It had Silsbee spread out and took time off the clock to limit a comeback and also took advantage of isolating their big men inside. You can speak with any JY fan, they will tell you there was nothing handled "easily" in that game last night. Tight game throughout.

Silsbee has been a poor free throw shooting team all year long. It was a night where they needed to shoot around 67-70% instead of their usual 50%. Several of those point blank misses had nothing to do with Yates, just lack of execution. Yates did block several shots though and altered others. The 1/20 three pointers really ballooned in the last 2 minutes of game when Silsbee started "jacking" three's trying to make the comeback. It resulted in some long rebounds and "snowbird" layups for Yates.

I know no team has their own refs just said that out of frustration Yates shot the ball better than silsbee from the 3 point line , the foul line , and inside the paint , I'm just glad our team showed a lot of heart out there Yates has one of the best programs in the country and I just hope our tigers earned a some respect against a top notch opponent we need to continue to play more teams like Yates to get even better in the future. Thanks tigers for an awesome season , thanks Yates for respecting our fans and team hope u guys win it all.
We really do appreciate it. Without question The TIGERS have earned more respect than what they came into this game with. We as a team has and have nothing but respect for what they have and were able to accomplish. I think student athletes often speak prematurely. Often from cockiness, and sometimes just out of being immature, as kids often do. More often than not, it's that player(s) that contributes the least that does the most trash talk. We try to teach our boys to talk less and let your play speak for you. This is where we as adults, parents and coaches alike have to teach them the difference. They have to understand you don't go deep with hopes that the other team will fear your name or reputation. This team we have now is going through the task of making a name for themselves and getting out of the shadow of our 08-10 team who won the championships. They are often compared to them and people, even our fans expect them to bust it wide open and leave no doubt, but that was a SPECIAL team we had then. So we're constantly trying to improve with each game. Having played sports, I know we all know that gut feeling you have before tip-off, kick-off, or that opening pitch. I may be wrong, but we have to constantly remind the kids that for the most part everyone wants to win and if they show up, they will play you that way. I'm proud of both teams for how they conducted themselves before, during, and after the game. The Tigers have no reason to hang their heads, or beat themselves up. We ALL know the feelings after a game like last night, we too, have been there. There was so much talk about it was going to get out of hand and scuffles on the court and the fans going at it and there was nothing of the sort. Both teams shook hands like young men and student athletes and appear to have left it on the court. To say our bases were simply divided by 2 pieces of cheap tape, they too conducted themselves in such a manner that was far from what some were expecting. We may not always agree on certain things, but no one can ever say that Alumni and fans for both of these teams doesn't care or have passion for their team. It was live last night One thing is for certain, TEXAS is no longer just a football state, basketball is here and it seems to be here to stay. The LIONS and TIGERS will have a seat at the table!! Stay hungry and stay focused!!
EXCELLENT POST!!! Kudos to you my JY friend!
