  1. I am surely not suggesting HJ is scared. I know that they play both those teams in non-district. I don't think anyone is suggesting that HJ be in same pool as Big Sandy and Nederland. That is just not good tourney business. Particularly when they already have those teams on their schedule. I think the question was why those two teams, who played in championship last year, are in same pool this year? IMO, that has nothing to do with HJ and it's abilities to perform in their tourney.
  2. So if Big Sandy and Nederland are in same pool, curious to see what the other pools look like. It's a very, very deep field and more than likely good teams are going to be in same pool. It is interesting though that the two finalist from last year are in same pool this year, but sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles. Should be another great tourney!
  3. Whoa!!!
  4. My info came from a coach who was there. This is the text I received: The 7'3 kid has a ways to go. He won't be a difference maker for Central. With him in they tried to go 2-3 zone which is not what Central does best. When they went man with him, you can iso him on the perimeter. He can't stay with who he is guarding. He will help but won't be the difference maker that some are saying on the board. You will see.
  5. I am not ready to see a full strength basketball team till Whataburger Tourney. I think Silsbee is very capable of playing football past Dec. 1. Now that potential game on Dec. 4th or 5th (Navasota) will most likely put Silsbee at full strength the following week.
  6. McGallion's retirement has nothing to do with football from what I am told. This was his decision, no ultimatum. Sometimes other things in life are bigger than football.
  7. Our rankings have always ended after last week of regular season. Not sure the reason why it should carry on for just one week of playoffs. Other than 21-5A playing 22-5A, all our other districts play districts outside our coverage area in 1st round. So we should extend it one more week just so the 21-5A guys can say "I told you so"? smh
  8. Yep, that's what I meant. roll eyes Scrimmage is at Ozen
  9. I was told by some that the '7"3 kid struggled in the Central scrimmages at Baytown this past Saturday.
  10. Yep. This coming Saturday. I would expect a full Ozen varsity team to have their way with a half full Silsbee team.
  11. Yep, very tired. But to honor a close friend of mine, Juan Mo Time, the rankings are not necessarily about who would beat who in hypothetical games. IMO, it's about performance, production, momentum, how a team has done in recent weeks, etc....... I do take into consideration actual head to head between two teams but only in recent weeks. I will not rank a team in week 11, 12 based on what happened in week 1 or 2. Not going to happen for me. BTW, I have had WO-S #1 all year, even after their loss to Foster. But I have no problem with anyone ranking Kirbyville #1 after that impressive win over then #1 East Chambers. Again, the poll shouldn't be about who would beat who when we are combining multiple classifications. Crosby should be #1 (I had them #1 all year) based on their unbeaten performance this season. But even Crosby fans will tell you they wouldn't beat North Shore.
  12. This was my final 4A/3A poll that I turned in this week: 1. WO-S 2. Kirbyville 3. Silsbee 4. East Chambers 5. Jasper 6. Coldspring 7. Newton 8. Bridge City 9. Shepherd 10. Huffman
  13. 14. Everyone scrimmaged yesterday. Not sure why folks have not posted any results or comments. I have not heard of any other results. Football still has everyone's attention.
  15. You will never convince me that those two freshmen (as good as they are) are close to making up for the 5-7 players Silsbee will be getting once football is over, particularly in the varsity experience department. But that's just my opinion. Like it was stated earlier, the players out represent the bulk of the rebounding and defense along with scoring. Lil McCain and Adams do not bring that to the table, yet.
  16. Correct though Grubbs got his fair share as well.
  17. Well considering that 3 of the missing players (M. McCain, Thomas and Mackey) were starters last year and Newton and Barnes were two of the top players off the bench, I don't see how mentioning anything about missing players would be misleading. Those 5 players were at least 65% of the scoring last year with Grubbs and Harris making up most of the remaining 35%.
  18. Probably 13-15 Currently, Silsbee has these varsity players still playing football: Michael McCain, Dontre Thomas, Kolten Mackey, Kalon Barnes and Bruce Newton. 3 of those were starters last year. Also Adonis Thomas, Tre Lowe, Jaden Bass and Mason Murray could be varsity. They were brought up in basketball playoffs last year. These players (not including Bass) are starters on the football team that look to make a good run in playoffs. It looks like Silsbee varsity basketball will not be at full capacity till after Thanksgiving or later. The main players that Silsbee currently has playing varsity basketball are Tre Grubbs, Trajan Harris, Luke Tanton, Rick Maze, Devon McCain and Jordan Adams.
