1.
Post your fall league info/where you will be playing etc when you have it. Gettin' close!  Oct 30 - first day of scrimmages
Not a lot of detail to provide right now, but LCM will be involved in Lumberton's Fall League.  More detail when available.
 2.
If I remember correctly..if PNG would have had about another 45 seconds on the clock in the brenham game last year you could have very well been looking at a PNG come from behind victory. A loss is a loss but were talking about a team who played one of the state finalist VERY toughly and the fact of the matter is in the second half was a more impressive team than Brehnam. With all of PNG's returners, key newcomers, and another year under the new coaches system, once again...they are going to be a handfull. I mean , come on, if the team makes ANY improvment from last season your talking about a potential state finalist squad. LCM is FAR from that. Not saying they will not grow into that in the future, but not on the same page as PNG at the moment. Halftime - Brehnam 20 PNG - 0 .. Final Brehnam 27 PNG 21 and driving. Lets not forget PNG was ranked 5th in the state when they went out. Like I said improve on that AT ALL and your gonna spell trouble for a lot of teams. Including this years game with LCM= BLOWOUT and I think we will see a Brehnam PNG rematch with PNG's defensive front making the big difference this time around and getting them a victory. Central will play PNG well but im calling another undefeated season of at the very least district play and a possible semi-final run.
IF LCM would have had another 45 seconds on the clock in the png game you could have very well been looking at png's only district lose.  Just saying, as long and were playing the "What if" game.
 3.  Congratulations to Michele and the Rigsby family! Michele is a great kid who is always willing to do whatever it takes to help her team.  Michele is a truely versatile athlete who has always been a delight to coach and be around. This kid is an athlete who is well rounded enough to play virtually any position on the field for Paris Jr. college.  I don't know much at all about the Paris JUCO program... except for the fact that it just got a lot better!  Congrats again Michele!
 4.
There are several things here that I think LCM should be more concerned about that beating the Disirct Champs  1. You got several game before we come the bear country. 2. Maybe you can contend with a playoff team when you make the playoffs. LCM Bears do not let your guard down cause when the indians come to your house there will be no mercy and you will get to hear cherokee over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ;D
You always "GET" to hear Cherokee over and over and over whether PNG is 20 points down or 20 points up.  You also "GET" to hear Cherokee whether PNG makes an 80 yard run or is thrown for a 2 yard loss.  This is the only certainty of this game is ...you will definately "GET" to hear Cherokee!
 5.
Watch out for those PN-G Indians this year ;)
ATTENTION MODERATORS! Can you please change the title of this thread to the more appropriate: "A Premature Warning".
 6.
Cough, Cough!
 7.

honestly IMO i don't see how yall can even compare LCM to PNG. your talking about a team who went 4-6 to a team who went 11-1. when we played lcm we had our third string offense and defense in there after halftime. personally i think its gonna be a walk away for PNG.
I'm gonna have to call you out on this one, you are either crazy or you weren't at the game if you honestly believe that PNG had their third string O and D in the game at anytime. They were never up more than 7 points except in the first half, and I'm pretty sure no coach in their right mind would pull any starter in a game like that. The ignorance of that post is overwhelming. Maybe if you go take another look at the game film you will notice that no starters were even pulled, much less replaced by the 3rd string? Lol Get your facts straight buddy so you don't embarrass yourself again ;)
I don't believe this guy is a PNG fan.  And if he is, he wasn't watching the same game I was watching.  PNG got eaten alive by the wide receiver screen last year against LCM.  I, for one, will say we were fortunate to get that win.  Harmon was a stud in that game.  But PNG never put in their 3rd string players.  I don't see anything different this season.  2nd year in the new system.  LCM returns their QB and some WRs (from what I hear).  And LCM's skill positions had a very good performance at the State 7 v. 7 tournament.  PNG returns a bunch as well.  It will be a very well played game.
OMG!  What is going on in this thread?  A fan in purple who actually watched the game last year AND skipper showing some love for the green and gold.  (td must have talked him into it)
 8.
Change can be a good thing.....why don't you suggest Deweyville hire a female head football coach.....talk about change!
I'd buy a ticket to see that!  ;D I'd also want my kids school to hire the "best coach available" more than worry about male or female.
 9.  Congratulations Baleigh!  Longtime Orange Crush and current LA Express player Baleigh Bussell of Starks, LA made a verbal commitment to McNeese State yesterday.  Baleigh's commitment to excellence, her huge heart, and desire to be the best paved the way for this acheivement.  Whoever coined the phrase "dynamite comes in small packages" certainly described this young lady perfectly.  This kid knows nothing but wide open 100% of the time.  Baleigh is an amazing all-around athlete who could probably find a spot on a college roster in other sports as well, but has chosen to accept the offer from McNeese to play softball.    Baleigh has acheived much success on the softball field in the select arena as well as LA high school ball.  Baleigh was selected to the LA high school All-State team on more than one occasion and was a key member of Starks 2006 Class C State Championship in which she delivered the game winning hit driving in her sister in the championship game as an 8th grader!  Doesn't get much better than that.  Even as great of an athlete as this young lady is, she is even a greater young lady.  I was truly privelaged to have been able to coach and be around this young lady and her family for 3 years.  Thanks for the memories and I hope you create many more at McNeese. Congratulations to Baleigh and the Bussell family!
 10. CONGRATULATIONS SHANNON and to the Sain family! Blinn is getting one of the area's best!  In my mind this is classic example of which comes first...the chicken or the egg. CHICKEN = a great softball player who has loved the game from an early age and has always worked hard on all fazes of her game throughout her career.  Demanding of herself and is always her own worst critic.  She set a goal, worked hard and never lost sight of that goal.  A talented player who never developed a "good enough" attitude.   EGG =  a great kid.  Respectful of and to coaches, players, and parents.  Always upbeat and ready to work hard and practice with a good attitude.  Character that will make her successful in anything she does in or outside of softball.  Quality parents who were always willing to make tough decisions to guide her toward this goal. Is Shannon a great player who just happens to be a great kid or do the qualities that make her a great person help make her a great player? Congrats again Shannon!  (You'll always be one of my favorite people)
 11.
Got to see the HJ Varsity take on the HJ JV tonight at Central....  The next few years should be something to see as the LAdy Hawks have a solid core returning with some flat out speed in next years 9th and 10th grade groups.
Correct!  HJ #1 has been blowing out opponents each week.  July 5 they meet Central and that should be a great game.

I know it seems unlikely now, but do you 'Stang fans think there is a chance down the road that LCM and WOS might consolidate?   What would it take for this to happen, (when pigs fly and heck freezes over don't count. :D)
At this point the State would have to make it happen. The way I see it there are only two reasons for the State to come in and force a merger. 1) WOS academics and or financial situation doesn't get straightened out 2) LCM loses tax base (Inland Orange) Other than those two, I just don't see it happening. Although I'm not for it, it would be the best thing financially.
Dude!  Bite your tongue with #2 on your list!! Your reasoning is fairly accurate.  WOS has to improve their academic standards and get finances under control.  I don't think a merger would help financially though...LCM HAS to incur some big debt soon to provide some newer facilities.   There has to be another bond election looming in the near future for LCM.
Sure it would help financially. WOS would not have to give away near as much money if any at that point. Maybe then we would have a budget that is feasable and would be followed. WOS as most schools and government entities have alot of fat in them. This is a generalization so for all of those reading for our school board, when you go back and report this to them make sure you tell the whole story.  ;D BTW, where have you been Slam???????? Sure could use some help working on my baseball field now that you have all of that free time.
It's still about managing and budgeting.  Most would agree that more money would make it better, but I'm more inclined to think that if you can't manage XX amount of money you probably can't manage XXX amount either.  Kind of the Mike Tyson type thing.   I'm still around.  Have some new job duties and only come up for air every once in a while.   I'll call soon for some advice on the Bond Election.  As far as the help with the field...well...I could be enticed with a cold beverage.
Cold beverages are never a problem There are usually some blue cokes in the ice chest. I agree with your statement of not being able to manage more money. However, the only way to get that money would be to merge and that would completely change the makeup of the group managing the money. Therefore, maybe managing the money wouldn't be such an issue. Just think, you and I on the same school board. Now that would be something.  ;D Poor thing. Are you working too hard? I completely understand the working too hard part. It's too hot out there.
I'll help for that.  I'm glad you are taking care of that place...me and NEWS were the only ones to ever do anything around there!  (I'm sure somehow that will bleed over into the softball forum.  LOL) I don't really know who or why, but the make up is not working and something has to change.  You and I paired on a school board?  Interesting!  ;)  I'd have to bulk up my home owners insurance for when my house got burned down.  Oh...thanks for being so compassionate.  (Are those "blue cokes" unlocked and unguarded at any time?) Question: If the state mandates a school merge with someone else, is it a still considered a "consolidation" or an "absorption"?

 15.
Thanks for the nice words from everyone!  Shan is cleared to start running next week.  No complications so far.    ;D Not supposed to be shooting yet but she has been sneaking around shooting free throws I think   ;)
Fantastic news!  Glad to hear there have been no complications.  I started this thread as a testament to what I saw in Shannon's character and I have absolutely no doubt that she has all of the tools that it takes to get back to 100%...both physically and mentally.  Great kid, great parents.  (even dad  ;)) Good luck and continued success in your recovery!
 16.  1. Central - Many athletes return from the most dominate squad in 20-4A.  Excellent coaching that seems to build great players.  2.  Livingston - Livingston has a strong coaching staff too, but also returns the best player in district in Daylyn Harris.  An extremely strong freshman group from last season will help the Lions push Central for the district crown.  3. Ozen - Should be competing for the third spot on sheer athletic ability alone.  4. LCM - Solid coaching that has lead the Bears to a playoff spot each of the last two seasons.  Good play from some key returning players will pave the way to another playoff apperance in 2011 for the Bears.  May possibly contest for a spot higher than #4 if some some young players mature early. 5. Lumberton - Wildcard - Always seem to have good "younger" teams, but the "W's" have not come easy at the varsity level recently. Turmoil in the system has not helped the rebuilding process. 6. Vidor - New coach - new system 7. PNG 8. Nederland
 17.   I heard there is a rally to be held to make sure this new complex also be named "The Dr Carroll Thomas Multi-Plex".  ::) ::)
 18.
I can't speak for all the kids but the majority of the kids liked Coach Arbuckle. So did her peers. She is a person you could not help but like. She just had that way about her. She is special. Good luck coach you are probably better off. Look at this way coach, maybe now you can go to a school where they(Administration) supports girls basketball and have a youth program.
The kids I know from Vidor all seemed to like playing for Coach Arbuckle.  I always liked this coach, but gained even more respect for her 2 years ago.  Two seasons ago Vidor went through the entire district season without a win.  Vidors final district game of the year was against LCM.  Vidor was down by double digits late in the 4th and Coach Arbuckle was still about 8 feet out on the court (as she usually was) coaching, teaching, and pushing her girls to get better.  This season, if Vidor would have beaten LCM in the last district game...they would have forced a "play in" game for a playoff spot.  I feel like she was turning the corner for the Vidor girls program.  Sorry to see her go.
 19.
now I  mite be redin this wrong but how da betsy is a man gonna help dem football boys out if he be a hoops coach? Jus my opinun but dat ol boy at orange dont need no help with his players. Dat suprdntnt must be kin to obama. You get politics into Football you dun gone wrong boys, bad wrong. jus my opinun
AggiesAreWe...check to see if skipper changed his screen name to "Snooks".
 20. I agree with td...this sounds like a glorified athletic counselor to me.  The one thing that stands out in the article to me is that this position was created solely to help keep the basketball coach from leaving wos - - - (article quote below) This was a decision I made as superintendent,” Collins said. “Coach Newton has been given new duties and will help Coach Hooks (West Orange-Cove CISD Athletic Director and football coach). Coach Newton has decided to remain at West Orange-Stark as head basketball coach as well.”

That being said do you honestly think this was done to help kids or to keep a basketball coach? It would have helped the kids also if we would have been able to get them home safely at night!
Why arent they getting home safely?
Did I miss something?  Have kids not been getting home safely?

Here you go: [Hidden Content] I heard a lot about Jeff Bergeron, but I never saw him play.
I spoke with Joe's father this week, Coach Washington, and we talked some football. I told Coach about our board and that I had posted this video that kountzer just posted a couple years back and asked him if he remembered the play. He immediately said "USC". I brought Kenny up, for you younger fellas, that was his other son who was a pretty dang good QB.  He thought Kenny was just as good overall athlete but Little Joe had the spotlight at the running back position.  He loves talking about the big crowds they played in front at TJ and cherished the great games with PNG.
1972 Lincoln vs PNG.  Little Joe vs Jeff the Jet in Port Authur. I was just a little kid at the time, but this is STILL one of the most memorable high school games I've ever witnessed.
 23. There have been some great SETX running backs and all those listed in the previous posts have great qualities, but the measuring stick for SETX backs was set a long time ago by Little Joe Washington @ Lincoln and Jeff Bergeron @ PNG.  If you're too young to remember those guys then you really haven't ever seen the greatest backs in SETX history.
 24.  HillGuy, I started to PM you, but I know there are many others like myself who would like to continue to encourage and extend well wishes to Shannon in her recovery after her knee injury and surgery.  Can you give us an updated progress report? I hope things are going well for all. I know many of you know Shannon Evans and are aware of her athletic abilities maybe even to a greater extent than I do, but I have to say that I am extremely impressed with this young lady.  Her athletic ability speaks for itself, but one of the things that impressed me maybe more than anything is the attitude she brought to the first playoff game after her injury.  During BH's playoff game with LCM I found myself watching Shannon during the breaks in the action on the court.  Even though I know she was dying to be on the court, she stayed involved, encouraged her teammates, and did whatever she could to be a team player.  Shannon was given every opportunity to be down, whine, and moan but instead she stayed true to her team. They say in tough times your true character shines through...I think I got a good look at Shannon's true character that night and I couldn't have been more impressed. Good luck Shannon and hope to see you back soon!
