Slam14

As an LCM fan I've followed and seen Trent Manuel, great athlete and exceptional place kicker for the Bears.  Hope he has a great season. I also got a chance to see the Carranco in the playoffs against PNG, a super impressive kicker as well.  My wish is that Manuel gets a chance to match Carranco's 60 pat's this season!  ;)

No "official" announcement from the school district, but that seems to be the choice.

Congratulatons to the girls of 20-4A for a great year in District, the Area, and Region...a strong showing for some great athletes.  Some great competition through the whole district.  (I think that would have been a more proper way to start this thread.)    Some of you make pretty good arguements, but I don't really think it matters in the end.  The picks are all a matter of opinion and for sure subject to argument.  There are a lot of things I don't agree with, but for the most part I don't think recognizing more than a starting 5 is such a bad thing.  If you REALLY follow girls basketball you know who the top tier players are.   (Without going back and looking it up)  Who was the 20-4A MVP, Offensive & Defensive players of the year, and Newcomer of the year from 2 years ago?

The game was pretty exciting and would have runs of great play for a while and then each team would get sloppy for a while.  I think the refs let things get out of hand and both coaches were justified in their questioning.  The tech hurt, but I find it hard to fault the passion.  That blow-up was building the whole game.  I guess I would have been upset with the tech if I hadn't thought it was justified.  Just one of those things. To Lumberton's credit...I thought one of the key elements was in the 4th quarter and OT, a couple of the senior raider players did a good job of talking to and calming down their teammates and playing under control when there was caos all around.

I know Lumberton has had some well documented coach/parent/fan problems in the past and this is truely NOT an effort to throw fuel on that fire all over again.  I am not privileged to all of the inside knowleged of the Lumberton team, [b][color=red]but I have seen most of these girls play for several years during the season and summer league and there are some talented girls sitting the bench with shoes that look like they just came out of the box. Vidor is a very good and well coached team.  I have seen them play several times, but my opinion does not seem to fall under the conventional way of thinking.  Although the Pirates have good guard play... in my opinion it is the post/forward combination that makes this team tough.  Vidor is not very deep, so the key to beating Vidor lies in letting Jacks have whatever she comes up with and trying to keep Richmond and the other big girl off the boards and defended them tough.  I think the Vidor/Central game will be very interesting!   

Saw in the boxscores where a girl from Goodrich scored 44 against the Bobcats!  WOW!

Last year,(or maybe the year before) in girls basketball an Ozen player punched a Central player after the game as they were shaking hands.  That girls was led off the court in handcuffs by police.  I believe the girl throwing the punch was suspended for the remainder of the season.  Just because this was a larger scale event doesn't mean it's too big to hand out punishments where they are due. Questions for you lawyers.....If your son was a 15 year old sophomore and he was in this brawl with two 19 year old seniors...could you file criminal assault charges?  I'm sure there is video of the event. Hypothetical situation above, but just trying to get a feel for is there a line where the sport stops and the law steps in.
