1.
If everything holds the winner of my lady raiders and LCM on the 5th will meet Nederland in a playoff for fourth place. And who said we had no chance at the playoffs? That's right we have already beat LCM and Nederland twice.
Flawed #'s and logic...even though I think the Raiders have a shot at the playoffs.
 2.
I agree Slam, we are all experts in hindsight. We are young starting a freshman,  two sophmores, and two seniors who didnt play much last year. In fact the two sophmores are the only girls on the team with substantial experience from last year. As far as frustrations with Coach Goad go. It seems as if she quit coaching the team after about their twentieth game. By this I mean she was actually adjusting as the half and as the game progressed to help the girls win. In multiple games they went into the half down 10+, and adjusted to come back for a win. She doesnt do that anymore. Whatever she starts the game in is what she finishes the game with. At other times she just doesnt put much thought into what she does. For example. When we played and lost to Nederland after beating them by 37 a week before. The offense we ran in that game was an offense she spent 30 minutes teaching them the day before the game. Gametime cane, they ran it ineffectively, and she never got out of it. After the game she threw the loss on the girls. The last thing is this. Im not sure how long you stayed Friday but after the game she brought the girls into the gym, griped at them asking what was wrong with them and why they did such a bad job before lining them up to run baselines and do push ups as punishment for the game. I have no problem with punishment for a bad game, however we are 25 games into the season and this is the 1st time shes punished them this season. Its a little late in my opinion. I also didnt see her run a single baseline for her mediocre coaching that night. Overall I do like Coach Goad and she has shown to have a lot of potential to be a good coach but its hard to understand what she has been doing lately.
"Post-game" answers are always a little easier to see. I am always one of the last out of the gym on game night...in fact your girls were waiting for me and a few other parents to clear the floor so they could begin running.  I had no idea that this was a form of punishment. I just assumed this was conditioning done after each home game. Although I certainly have an opinion...I think this would fall into the "not my business" catagory since it's not my daughter or school.  ;)
 3. If Buna is healthy, it will be a tight game.  The Cougars a pretty salty and well coached.
 4.
It was an entertaining game to watch and the paper did not lie. LCM came to play and flat outplayed the Raiders, they set up the game with an aggressive defense which really put the Raiders on their heels forcing 13 turnovers. In response the Raiders played a lot of individual basketball (I couldn't tell what kind of offense they were even running). One person would get the ball and try to drive and in response the Bears would block the lane forcing a highly contested shot from the Raiders. The Bears did well on offense as well working the ball around and scoring even on contested shots. The Raiders were out coached in my opinion. By that I mean Goad made no adjustments throughout the entire game. Mainly staying in a passive 2-3 zone which gave the Bears too many easy shots from the field. Nothing was really done about the lack of an offense throughout the night by the Raiders as well. Another heavy blow was sophomore scoring and defensive leader number 1 receiving three fouls in the first 5 minutes of the game, and then sitting until the third where she quickly received a 4th and fouled out early in the 4th (she played maybe 12 minutes of the game at most). In my opinion two fouls were warranted three were not. Number 10 also fouled out which hurt as well. I will say the Lady Raiders did a good job shooting to keep themselves in the game. I hate to see that they have lagged off so bad since starting 12-1 beating teams like Port Arthur and Westbrook but in my opinion, until the Raiders get a coach who actually knows how to coach they will have a hard time winning. Overall the Bears were better coached and played a better game last night. Great job LCM.
LCM, like Lumberton, plays a whole lot of underclassmen.  They have had ups and downs all season, but played well against the Raiders. "Thank you"  to you and LR2014 for acknowledging the Bear's effort even in your frustrations. I agree that a huge turning point in the game was the Lady Raiders foul trouble.  #1 is a great player and scorer and the frustration level seemed to grow with every foul called.  Even though the Raiders almost shot their way back into the game with 3's...it's hard to rely on that to carry you and Lumberton seemed content to take that route.  I'm not sure what the rebounding count was, but it seemed like Lumberton got very few 2nd chances on the offensive end. I know its easy to question coaching, especially after a game, but we all do it to some extent.  Just a side note to your comments in that department...at the half I gave some words of encouragement to some of the Bear players as they were coming out of the dressing room and told them what I thought was coming and maybe what to expect in the 2nd half....it never came.  Good luck the rest of the season. ( in most of your games  ;))
 5.   FROM KOGT: The LCM Lady Bears went on the road to play a talented Lumberton Lady Raiders team and responded with their best game of the year. The Lady Bears confused Lumberton early with their 1-1-3 zone defense limiting the Lady Raiders to just two 1st quarter field goals and 6 points while being aggressive offensively making 4 field goals and going 6 of 8 from the free throw line to take a 14 to 6 first quarter lead. The Lady Bears extended their lead to 29 to 20 at the half. The Lady Raider chipped away at the LCM lead by hitting seven 2nd half three point shots and cut the Lady Bear lead to two, 53-51, late in the 4th quarter before the LCM put them away with a 8 to 3 run to seal the game 61-54. Eight Lady Bears got into the scoring column. LCM was led in scoring by junior guard, Cassidy Webster, with 16 points. She was followed in scoring by Tara Thompson with 10 points, while Kayleigh Roy and Savanna Smith each contributed 8 points each and Josie Nimitz chipped in 6 points with 100% shooting on the night. Senior forward, Kayleigh Roy, led the Lady Bears in rebounding as they dominated the boards. Roy had 14 rebounds while freshman, Sheridan Rogers pulled down 7, and Tara Thompson pulled down 6. The Lady Bears had a season low 11 turnovers, while picking up 11 steals and forcing several other turnovers. The Lady Bears aggressive offensive attack earned them 28 free throws of which they made 20 (71% as a team). The Lady Bears will host the Central Lady Jaguars Tuesday night at the Bear Cave as they start the 2nd half of district play with the 9th grade starting at 4:30 followed by the JV and the varsity.
 6. Final from Lumberton:  LCM defeats Lumberton 61-56 (think that was the final)
There is no such thing freedom of speech on a privately owned bulletin board or forum anyway so that is not even an issue to be brought up. The rules of this forum say no player bashing. Saying that my player is better than yours or my team is better than yours is not bashing, it is an opinion. It is also probably taunting and/or pot stirring. Those are not against the rules. Bashing in my opinion is saying that a named (or numbered) player is a low life, is a drug user, is a criminal, only gets to play because daddy pays off the coach, is a piece of crap, using profanity toward him/her (another rules violation in itself) etc. If we stop people from saying that one team is better than another, another player is better than another, my team is going to shut down your crummy team, my coach out coached your coach and other such statements, we might as well shut down the website and all gather in the park and have a group hug. That is my opinion. Another moderator might have a different view.
Thanks for your input and opinion.  The post wasn't overboard...just thought it was borderline.
 8.
First off Chocky in case you do not know the district standings, Ozen, Central, and Vidor have seperated and will finish in the top three. LCM, Livingston, us, and Nederland, are all fighting for the fourth playoff sport. While their still is 9 games to go the indication is 1 spot for teams. As for you HFfan, players play like their coaches act and vidor's coach is a maniac. He yells, whines, and any game now we will go off the wall. The players see this and act this way to. Maybe that is why #4 plays so wild. I can only assume their practice involves three point drills and yelling. As for the reason why I think the next time will be closer because yall beat us so bad that you will think ahead to Central on Friday. We however, will be fighting for that last playoff spot and be hungrier. We also have the coach who is better at adapting. Our girls will know everything that Vidor did to us and use that beat the press and force turnovers. Just face it your coach does nothing. He just stands there and yells. I also watched some highlights of Central this year and am 100% sure that there is no way Vidor can win or even stay within 10. Central matches up better than Ozen, and after our game, Vidor is just going to go into the game stuckup. #3 will go back to having her regular 4-20 from the three point line and for that Central can focus on #14. Central is fast enough to ruin the press with #4 most likely having less than 2 steals and get into foul trouble earlier. #23 is still a freshman and will make freshman mistakes. She does not do anything but foul and like her sister miss threes. The rest of the team does not come close to matching central's bench with their bench maybe being better than Vidor's starters. As if not obvious enough the coaching is just polar opposite in favor of Central. Central by 10. I'll be there in my baby blue rooting for those jaguars.
I am all for freedom of speech and expression, but it seems to me there is much in this post that is borderline site rule offenses.  Moderator opinion?
 9.
Thanks, T....both are doing great.  Shaw (Vanderbilit, 11-3, 1-0 SEC) is getting about 9 min/game, with 3.5 pts and 2.5 rebounds/game.  Evans (Faulkner, 14-3, 4-1 SSAC) has 6 starts, 19 min/game, 4.5 pts, 2.6 assts, 2 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game.  Its early in conference play but she leads all conference freshmen in assists, steals and assist to turnover ratio.  Faulkner is ranked #24 in NAIA Div 1, but should move up this week after beating #9 Xavier N.O. and undefeated Southern Poly. Main thing is they are both LOVING their schools, teammates and having a blast.  Thank goodness for internet video livesteaming.  Kids can now play a long way away and their parents can still live vicariously thru them just like HS, LOL.
Fantastic!  Those are great numbers for young players (any player I guess). Both of these ladies had great backgrounds to help them succeed at the college level and it looks like they are taking advantage of every opportunity.  Even though the Internet is better than missing the whole thing...there can be nothing better than being in the stands watching live.  Hope you get to make as many games as possible. Congratulations and I wish Shannon (and mom & dad) much more success!
 10.
Not much different than Middle School days is it?  NC just has zero youth programs to feed into school ball. Way to Eagles...keep taking care of business!
BH keeps rolling.  How are some of the BH girls doing that moved on to the next level?  ;D
 11.
Congratulations, Vidor. Y'all beat us. Just hope the Pirates didn't waste all their energy last night, cause Central's waiting, and unlike the last time Vidor played a Beaumont school, they ain't going to be looking ahead to Christmas. Washington and Richmond should be a good matchup, but Central is better at the other four starting spots and they have the better coach to go along with that. Have fun playing a team that is better than you and is actually focused on your team. And trust when next time comes around, we will be alot hungrier fighting for that other playoff spot, so get ready to bring it.
I am not a Pirate fan, but expect Vidor to do quite well against the Lady Jags.  I would not at all be surprised by a Vidor win.  Vidor is always prepared and starts quick.  There are a few players in 20-4A that I would say are "great" players...even as good as Central's Washington is, I'd still cast my vote for Richmond as 20-4A's MVP so far.  (Still a lot of ball to play though)    LadyRaider03, why all the bitterness?  Don't take such big gulps of the baby blue Koolaid.
 12.
why would this be the last yr of the JACKS era??? Coach Jacks is a heck of a coach and has turn this program around from a team that won 0 games 3 yrs ago.
I'll hold on the question, but all of your statements are true and right on the money.
 13.
Jacks isn't going anywhere. He still has Allison for one more year and amber for three more after this.
Duuh...They are his daughters...Coach Jacks will have Allison for one more year and Amber for three more years WHERE-EVER he coaches.  It is my belief Jacks will leave.  I'll elaborate on my reasoning after the season.
 14.
With the holidays over, thought it was time to start talking about this game Friday night. Lumberton, a onetime ranked team, against Vidor, the streakiest team in Texas. This week of practice will benefit Lumberton and allow them to figure out their late struggles and get back to playing how they did the first month of the season. I have seen Vidor play a few times and after watching them, my Lady Raiders have the better dribblers and will turn Vidor's press into fast breaks. As for #14 and #3 for Vidor, the defense will be ready to handle them and will hold them to under 20 each. I do not understand how they are considered great players when all they do are shoot threes and drive and miss 3/4 of the time. This is also their first road test and do not think the freshman Jacks will be able to handle the crowd noise. All in all, my Lady Raiders should be ready for this game and not overlook it like some Beaumont team against Vidor and win by 15.
WOW!  Not even sure where to start here.  Lumberton is improved, but let's not get carried away.  There are way too many holes in this logic to even try to cover up.  Good luck to your girls though. I think Vidor has a chance to move up to the #2 playoff spot if they continue to play well in what I believe is the last year of the Jacks era.  Fast paced team that will not at all be effected by the "crowd noise" @ Lumberton.
 15. The Golden Rule of posting on this site is: If you dish it out, you dang well better be prepared to take it.
 16.
Vidor 56 LCM 46. Vidor was up by around 25 and then started playing everyone.
BS Good, hard fought game. Vidor beat LCM by 30 a few days ago in tournament play, but I thought the Bears responded well and had a big effort and didn't back off.  Missed lay ups and poor free throw shooting (10-23) by the Bears was the difference in this game. Allison Jacks is a good player and gets a lot of well deserved recognition, but in my opinion Blair Richmond is the key to Vidor's success. She is an outstanding player and poured in shot after shot when Jacks got into foul trouble.  The Pirates go as Richmond goes.
 17.
I will say this for Hopkins. We got to see what Nederlands offense was like without him able to play.  He was  a huge part of it on offense. Montana should no doubt be  the MVP. On defense you are going to have a lot of Nederland and WO-S.d
WOS is good, but I would bet not a single player from that school makes this list.  ;)
 18.

knows2much must be a turf salesman! :o
+1    ;D 10 minutes of my life I will never get back from reading this thread.
;D ;D  +1 for you too. If SETXsports ever creates a "Top 10 Most Rediculous Threads" this will be right at the top! Sometimes the successful passing of a school bond is enhanced by an individual within that community making a large monetary donation to "get the ball rolling".  I'm sure if knows2little buys his school a new stadium, then the taxpayers would come up with a new weight room. New facilities are nice, but they do not "make" better athletes.
 19.
So, we're the four bracket winners Vidor, LcM, Buna, and Evadale? For anyone that has been at the tourney, who outside the 4 bracket winners have the best chance to win this?  I really wanted to see more of this but I am still hoping to see some this afternoon and tomorrow.
Yes, those are the four pool winners. Depends on what you mean by "win it all".  The tourney is now divided up into a "Gold Bracket", consisting of the winner and runner-up of each pool bracket...and a "Silver Bracket" consisting of 3rd and 4th place pool bracket rankings.  To answer your main question...both Vidor and Evadale look strong, but I don't see a team here that is a sure bet to walk through it.
 20.
does anyone know how LCM is doing in this tournament ?? Slam where are you ???
I'm always here...just laying low.  ;) The Bears won their pool with wins over Silsbee & Huffman-Hargrave.  Play at noon today against Warren. A win at noon would match them up with Vidor (assuming a Pirate win @ 10:30) at 4:30pm.  KOGT has a write up of the Bear wins from yesterday.
 21.
HF was ahead at half playing zone.  Went man in 3rd qtr and allowed Lumberton to run their offense.  Too many fouls, too few made shots, never went back to zone even with key players in foul trouble.
Pre-district game.  Sure...everybody wants to win every game, but unless you're planning on going straight zone all year you better be working on man-to-man at some point.
Not going to happen...Vidor takes 3rd or 4th behind Ozen and Central for sure.
No way.
Way!,ha...Ozen 30 something and 1 team returning seriously ticked off over playoff loss and Central returning strong core including one of the best guards in the state.  Vidor has the spunk but not the horsepower to overcome those two.  Liv will be a force too to reckon with.
Hillguy is right on the money!  (again)  Vidor will have a good team, but you either don't know girls basketball or you're kidding yourself when you stack them up man for man against the front runners in 20-4a.
 23.

You should see the picture Gary Stelly from KOGT posted on fb because it clearly shows the Bear player had the ball all wrapped up in his arms. Just glad the Bears won! ;D
I saw the picture as well. Clearly should have been LCM ball. But, a wins a win.
I have the picture and it leaves absolutely no doubt, but I was unsure if I should post it because it has KOGT's call letters on the photo.  I thought if they wanted it out there they would do it.  I guess it would be a MUCH bigger deal if Ozen had scored.
 24. I'm going with the 2012 defense. I'm guessing the guys from 1986 are getting a little too old to run with some of these wide open offenses! Oh, you meant...my bad.
 25. Talented and Classy fits the discription of Alex Sezer very well.  What some either fail to highlight, recognize, or may even be unaware of is that this young man excels in the classroom as well.  Alex is ranked #2 in his graduating class and is set to graduate ahead of his classmates in January so he can begin his work at Texas A&M. This kid has obviously worked hard to overcome many "challenges"...I wish him the best of luck on this one Friday night!
