Current enrollments for each school: LC-M    1,123 OF          520 It's very possible LC-M remains 4A and be a 4A DI (with the likes of Silsbee, Lumberton, BC, Huffman, Splendora, Cleveland, Jasper, maybe WO-S). But no way does Orangefield go to DI. They will be a 4A DII with HJ, HF, Buna, Liberty, Tarkington, Coldspring, etc.) I still say the bottom number for 5A (what is 4A now) will be around 1050. If that is the case, LC-M will remain with it's district mates now and be 5A (what is now 4A).
You are still on top of your game!  Thanks. Still a numbers game.

Ain't no way these two end up in the same district unless Orangefield has an incoming freshmen class next year that has 500 kids in it!!!
I guess we should just get through this season (or at least START this season) before we go that far.  Let's just flag this post for further discussion when the real UIL talks begin.  I give it a better than average chance of happening.

And the offense appears to be faster.. Imagine an offense faster than the 2012 squad.  Hopefully, what I've heard is true.  This year could be another special year for the Brazos Valley.
WOW that could be special indeed!
Could be really special!  BUT....I'm always leary of anything that starts with the phrase "From what I hear..."  The other phrase that really scares me is "Watch this...hold my beer"  ;)
 8. I am not from Vidor, so I am not emotionally involved with this issue.  I am a girls basketball fan though. At the end of last season I posted that I thought Coach Jacks would leave, but didn't elaborate because I knew this would end up right where it has.  I honestly thought this had about a 90% chance of happening.  If you take away the emotion... things are MUCH more clear.  Here are a few of the facts to consider and you could have recognized before if you had been paying closer attention. 1.  Coach Jacks does what is best for his daughters above everything else.  (What dad is going to blame him for that?) 2.  Even though Vidor had the best year in school history, they lost a great player in Blair Richmond, and a good role player in Torry Biddle.  I don't see anybody of that cailiber waiting to step in.  The Vidor girls would not have made a run in the playoffs even WITH the Jacks girls this coming year.  No supporting cast.  Even though I'm sure Vidor would have some "good" players. The Jacks family is looking to go deep into the playoffs in Allison's last season. Ain't happening with "good" players. 3. Coach Jacks does what is best for his daughters above everything else. 4. Coach Jacks produces winning seasons.  When you are a winner, other schools are going to come knocking. 5. Coach Jacks does what is best for his daughters above everything else. 6. Even prior to the best season in Lady Pirate history, Coach Jacks was being courted by other schools in the area and he was weighing his options. He didn't go. Guess why? (Check #7 for the answer) 7. Coach Jacks does what is best for his daughters above everything else. 8. The coach has a history of moving. Guess why? (check #9 for the answer) 9. Coach Jacks does what is best for his daughters above everything else. Coach Jacks did a lot to raise the interest in girls basketball in Vidor, but sometimes just being in the gym isnt enough. Ashley, even though we have met before and seen each other on several occasions you don't really know who I am.  I hope you find some peace in knowing that not all are ragging on your dad.  Although I never had the opportunity to see you play, I have a sneaking suspicion that the moves from Blue Ridge and Gary high school had YOUR best interest in mind just like he's doing now for your sisters. Good luck to Vidor and Lumberton.
 9. I'm hoping the Bears have a breakout season this year.  They do have enough talent to surprise much of the district.  Even though ALL teams are optomistic at this point in the season, the Bears will always be "middle of the pack" at best in the preseason rankings until they prove otherwise on the field.  20-4A is extremely tough physically, but LCM has to overcome the mental side of knowing how to win as well.  I think Crouch is a good leader in that respect. The few times that LCM has won the district they were picked towards the bottom in those years too...maybe this will be one of those eye opening seasons wehn LCM has something to say about who goes to the playoffs.  Go Bears!
 10.
Houston Power and Impact Gold coming to Beaumont is awesome for our girls! The ones it will benefit are our girls who have what it takes to make it to a big D1. It's sad to say, but once you get the right combination of hard work, talent, determination, and attitude on the players part, it DOES matter what name they have on that jersey. We know from experience. Parents have to be willing to turn your daughter's game over to the coach/manager/organization that's willing to push her beyond what she thought was her limits, then let things happen. If our local coaches don't live up to those organizations expectations and reputation, they won't be coaches for long. And that's a good thing. The local softball drama won't last long with those groups. Parents and kids will have to step up their game and rise to the level of success. Some of our local guys have done an amazing job getting our local players to the next level, but it's time to make things better. There will still be a place for some of these smaller organizations, but this opens up so many possibilities! My advice is to find out what your daughter's goal is, and give her every opportunity to reach it. It's not going to fall in her lap in softball.
Nice post. This post does a good job of making people revisit their level of committment.  The underlying problem is that a whole host of parents and players "think" they are performing at the very highest level of competition possible...and that's not always the case.  You have to continue to dream, but be realistic in where you stand.   Even though this merger is about softball, it's really no different than anything else in life.  If you want to be the King...perform well enough and do the things necessary to take away the crown.
Solo, That just about sums it up......  :-[  I remember a few years back when this district had three teams in the top 20(Ozen,Central & Livingston). I can see having three teams make the playoffs when you have a district that strong. Four is pushing it to expect to have a competative game between a 1st place team and a fourth place team. Congrats to the other 20-4A teams. Ozen, Central and Vidor all advanced!
I guess I'm one of the few that think 4 teams in the playoffs is a good thing.  (Or at least not a negative thing) There are a few good districts out there that in some of those years like LR2014 noted have solid teams in at least the top 3 spots.  The majority of teams play some sort of "warm-up" game anyway...and any #1 views this as a warm up, but still has to keep their guard up.  #4 seeds are always hopeful and most play hard, but its not a realistic expectation for #4 seeds to prevail...so what's the big deal?  A warm-up game with a price if you don't stay on your toes. The UIL thinks its a good deal...lower classifications are adding an additional team to the playoffs next year.
Agreed! Not sure why some get angry about 4 going. At the end of the day you have to beat everyone to be #1. Plus there have been plenty of upsets in round 1 of any athletic competitions to keep the 4's in there.
Yeah???  List the ones that you know of and go ahead and Google the records to try to find others. ??? 8)
What difference does it make who would make that list? I too am old enough to where when I played only the district champion advanced to the playoff.  is that the solution?  Vidor, Dayton, Central, Orangefield and others should be left out?  Even with 3 teams that creates a bye.  I'd rather have a scheduled game against a #4 seed than a bye is all I'm saying. This is discussed every season and some opinions don't change.  The bottom line is the best teams usually win...and if they slip up and don't....maybe they weren't the best team. If you are a #1 seed and are truely better...then why do you care if a #4 seed is there?
