I understand that, but i haven’t been that impressed today.  Carthage has dudes all over the field that should be able to stop that.

It does seem to be making a comeback some lately.  Vidor might be a hot ticket for some preseason matchups just so some of these teams can see that style.

I agree. I was expecting more from LH. Surprised they did not try to get outside or pitch more in the first half.

Does Vidor still have the JV kid they moved up at QB? If so I just don't see them beating Dayton. He may be familiar with the offense but he is still young.

As far as I know,  the soph. will play again this week.

  3. Missed the game, but read all the posts in this thread.  (Thanks Boneyard for your coverage!)   A couple of posts referenced injuries and how at this time of year all teams have them.  Agreed, all teams have them, but how  injury affects a team is primarily determined by that teams depth, and to an extent, what position(s) are affected.   When you have enough depth, you can plug another player in and although he may not be as good as the sidelined starter, (or he'd likely be starting), there is not a drastic drop off in production.   On the other hand, when you have to bring players up from the JV, including quarterback, just to have players familiar with the positions you are asking them to  play, you may have a depth problem.   Not to mention how many are walking wounded and those already going both ways.  Don't take this as an excuse by any means,  it's just what has happened  this year injury wise to a Pirate team that didn't have a lot of numbers to begin with.

  4. I believe some parents are steering their kids toward other sports due to concussion concerns and other injuries with long lasting effects.   Different attitudes about football in that respect than a few years ago.  Enrollment numbers are dropping and it wouldn’t surprise me if we’re at 4A D1 numbers in a couple of realignment cycles

  5. #9, Jackson LaPray  (the kicker), has the speed to get outside, but has not been utilized much, except for kicking. In the Nederland game, he scored two TDs outside, just outran the defense to the corner and is the fastest player on the team.  Should see more action running the ball this week as half the usual starting backfield will see defensive duty instead.

As a outsider looking in for the last 13 years Hagar imo Vidor doesn’t have a “tradition” type pride issue, it’s well known the Pirates are proud to fight and play for JM. I think personally...... needs to get out of the slot T, it’s dead, it’s nearly useless against the competition that Vidor must face, they don’t play in a 3A district where it can work, sure Vidor runs it and some years are better than others but there isn’t much consistency in the wins.  Jeff made the statement he didn’t have the athleticism the other schools had, that was years ago, time to test the gene pool again see where the strengths are. When I was in school it was a bit of a joke when we played Vidor as every call was “run da ball!” Idk like I said just a outside opinion.

Good points.  The Slot T doesn't have to be 98% run.  Passing can definitely be incorporated in that offense as other schools that run it have shown.  With just a 25%-75% pass/run ratio, defenses may think twice about having 11 men in the box..

IMO, he doesn’t have the horses this year .

Injuries have decimated this team in the second half of the season.  Will be guys moved up from JV this week that have never played a varsity down.  More players going both ways and year long offensive starters playing their defensive positions instead.

  8. Seems to be too much turnover  with realignment now to really establish a  long time rivalry like PNG & Ned  have.  I think everyone knows the rivalry talk with Ned is tongue in cheek, but the fans seem to always be fired up for the game.  Orange County teams like BC and LCM would be natural geographic rivalries and could be district mates in 4A D1 if Vidor enrollment keeps going down.
