District 11 want be no pushover. It will be tough the whole way. Lot of good teams this year. In my opinion

It's really hard to tell if District 11 will be a challenge with so few common opponents. It does seem most teams in district 11 are very equal. And I believe Dangerfield gave Gunter everything they could handle. So it would appear they have some really good teams. Curious to see how all the other teams in Newton's district does in the playoffs

It is these coaches that set the schedules which does not demand the athletes to get better.

Athletes get better by being in a great program,  great strength programs,  great coaching, backing by school administration, fan base. Success breads success.  Become a winner consistently.  Then if you want to play Allen or Lake Travis then go for it, if you believe that will make you better.  But you must first consistently be successful and get the players, parents, fans and administration to believe in the program. Then slay Goliath if you like.

When teams like C Camden and Anderson Shiro plays these weak schedules, it is not to build their team to be a state level team but to get enough wins to protect the coaches job. Anderson Shiro played a pre season schedule of 4 teams from 2A  and a div. 4 Christian school and none of these teams were picked to win their 2A district.

As long; as these school continue to play weak schedules, Newton will not have to worry about them.

If you want to soar with Eagles.............................

Well if they had played Newton's non conference schedule they would just had 3-4 more losses and a lot of injuries. And I don't  think they would be better for it. Until they consistently have great athletes, great coaching and a great fan base to support them,  I don't think if they played Ohio State and Alabama it would help them.

  5. Newton didn't play like a team that will be in contention for a third consecutive state championship.  Poor blocking in the offensive line. Poor adjustments by the defense.  I know they scored a lot if points but, I think they played poorly.  I've never called the coaches out before,  but I think they just didn't adjust well. They need to fix the offensive line.  And putting pressure on the quarterback and allowing him to run it up your gut, series after series.  They only thing that stopped him is that he went out with and injury. If they don't improve,  they don't get out of their Region.

Newton had a very special team the last few years. It’s hard to bounce back completely. I figured we’d be good but the we’d already have a loss rn. I agree Gilmer will be tough and their defense is legit.  Neece actually opened up Newton’s passing game. I hope they continue to use those tools to continue developing it bc our passing game will need to be effective this week. Not getting the big head just yet. Got a whole season ahead. But I agree, it’ll be a battle.

Newton is just as good this year as last. Specifically the team thst played the last 2 games. Without their star receiver in the last 2 games made a tremendous difference.  Newton is better than that team now. Williams is a very proficient quarterback and will improve tremendously during District play when everything is not riding on his shoulders.  And they will get a few things ironed out with the running backs, which they have plenty of. They probably will use the sophomore,  whom I believe is already the better player in different roles. But overall I believe they will have a better team this year than last. Tbese or just my observations. I've stated that I thought Newton would lose this game to Gilmer, but after watching the Gilmer game on YouTube, I'm saying it yan go either way and this point leaning towards Newton.  Gilmer has considerably improved team from last year.  So even with a Newton loss, I still believe they will have a better team than last year.  JMO. Hopefully they will not sustain any injuries and I believe they will play better in District and the playoffs than last year. If that's possible.

I would say they’re all doing their part. KJ is having a heck of a season so far on both sides of the ball. Sylvester of course. Our young QB Williams has really been impressive. I’ll say we bounced back a lot quicker than I thought!

Not quicker than I thought. Williams actually was the better throwing QB last yearas a sophomore. But he lacked confidence.  By the end of District Play he may have reason to strut like a peacock.  And let me say this now. They will be at the top of the heap next year as well. Having said that, they may not even win this game against Gilmer.  But after watching the Gilmer , Carthage game on YouTube,  I have even more confidence in Newton.  But it will be all out War. Newton doesn't have down years, as per say. Cmon, if you call a regional Championship a down year. IMO, Newton is actually on their way up. They will continue to improve their program year after year JMO. Only advice I would offer, and nobody's asking me. But like every other genius on this site. I'm going to give it. Develope throwing,  athletic quarterbacks.  That's been my only knock on the program over the past 50 years. Very few throwing QB in Newton.  Williams will prove to be by for the best and will be the measuring stick for Quarterback's in the future at Newton. I'll see all you Newton folks mid December at Jerry's.  Have a great Day!!!

  8. I'll be so glad when District play starts.  Hard to survive these type of games without injuries.  But Newton is as advertised.  And so is WOS. Two great teams and a great game

But honestly, both teams definitely have some improvements they can make. With or without improvements they both have a very good chance at winning state in their respective divisions.  But they will both get better because of this game. Congratulations to Newton,  they found a way to pull it out. Get ready for more of the same next week.

'Cause Newton JV is getting taken to da shed!

Newton has a lot of Sophmores on Varsity.  They don't have enough kids to compete with larger classifications of schools. They can't field 2 good teams that can compete.  Varsity will compete however.  Not trying to make any excuses for the JV. Like you said. They are being taken to the woodshed.  Getting some valuable experience however

I always pull for the Eagles in every game except one. Got some friends up that way.  Just can't help having fun going toe to toe with these guys sometimes.

We don't want, are need any bad bllood between theses two teams. No more than there may be already. These are two great programs and I hope both of these teams represent East Texas in December. Injury free

Bro I see ur one of them guys that looks at scores.instead of the actually game.there is no doubt newton is a gud team.but there not world beaters.and I'll admit newton took advantage of flaws w.o had last yr.difference this yr w.o dline is better.and will give them them blues.also if watched w.o play u know 69 is unblockable this year. Ik abt the kid from newton.i think he's 24.differnce is he's facing a spread team that gets him out of his comfort zone.also sometimes he will have to line up across from 69.manchild!! And ik w.o couldn't throw the ball last yr on them. Same qb.but alot better.in case u didn't know the best rb on the field comes Friday. #41 a sophomore.unless w.o turns the ball over. This will be newton first L. And I'm willing to put money on it !! Real talk.

WOS is a Great team.  Every year. I give them the respect they deserve. Newton is a great team as well. I can't confidently say who I think is going to win this game. But I'm a Newton fan and am pulling for them.

But the scoreboard is really all that matters

  12. I have absolutely nothing to say negatively about WOS. They are one of the best programs in Texas as is Newton. I look for a great hard fought game and I expect it. Not likely a blowout in either way. But anything can happen with a momentum shift and a few mistakes. Both of these teams k8nda mirror each other with great athletes,  great coaching and great fan base. Looking forward to a great game.  Go Eagles!!!!

Most of what I was going to say was already said.   But the thing that bothered me the most is the HORRIBLE  tackling  and HORRIBLE  interior blocking.  Newton exploited  these Silsbee deficiencies all night long.  These are the main things that need to be fixed ASAP if Silsbee are going  to do what they are trying to do.  There were some better playcalling that  could've been done,  but seems that it would've been an uphill  battle anyway because Newton is just that good.  And I can say it with my chest out.  I was wrong.  The loss of the 3 d-1 players appears to not have slowed this team down.  Low on numbers (I counted 28 kids on the team), but they get after it, ESPECIALLY  in defense.  If they stay healthy,  no doubt they make it back to the 'ship.

Coach Smith  and staff made a believer out of me since he's  been in Silsbee and I won't doubt him and his staff now.  Silsbee will get it together in these next couple of upcoming games.

P.S.  Silsbee quarterbacking was NOT the issue tonight,  contrary to 'popular' belief...

Silsbee has and excellent football team. They have great athletes and will go deep in the playoffs,  imo.

Everyone needs to support these kids and they will rebound. Coming from and Eagle fan. I'm 100% a Newton fan but I know a good team when I see one. This game really doesn't matter. It should be used as a teaching tool. Disrict play is the only thing that matters.

I don’t think Silsbee fans turning on their team, I believe it's more so frustration from watching tonight, that was not Silsbee Football tonight out there, they are better than what I personally saw tonight, the good news is that it wasn't a district game, but IMO I'd burn that game tape.

I think I would study it.
