  1. Dangerfield is the best team Newton has played since Gilmer. They have a very good football team. Great quarterback, good running back and good receivers. The quarterback has great vision and knows where his receivers are at all times.  Very impressed by this kid. Id like to see Newton get a grip on their penalties.  Last 2 weeks its been terrible.  Dangerfield is playing as good football right now as anyone.  This game ,I believe will show Newton's character and who they really are at this point. Excited about this game as much as I've been since Gilmer and WOS. I expect Dangerfield to be in the fight. If Newton blast them, they are who they say they are!!

I believe WOS is much better than their record indicates. Being from Newton, that kinda makes me a Jasper fan as well, by default.  But, I think WOS has to many athletes and particularly speed for Jasper, and I see WOS pulling of the perceived upset this weekend.

  4. Newton should blast this team. But I always look forward to them playing a good passing team. Unfortunately for Troup, the quarterback will not be very comfortable for very long. I'm thinking midway through 2nd quarter he may have taken all the pounding he will be able to handle. By stats, he's 5"10 145. He isn't built for it. Maybe they will surprise me.  Not likely.  But Newton could use a challenge.  Probably won't happen this week though. Newton hangs 50 and still plays a lot of freshman and sophomeres, before the half.

  5. • #10 Weslee Ross, Sr., 6-0, 145 (101-of-169, 1,890 yards, 25 TDs, 4 INTs; 66 carries, 300 yards, 9 TDs) This kid can throw the football well under pressure.
    • #5 RB/LB Calob Smith, Jr., 5-9, 155 (5-9, 155 (79 carries, 648 yards, 4 TDs; 3 catches, 27 yards; 66 tackles, 3 for loss, 3 PBUs, 1 INT, 3 forced fumbles, 1 recovery)
    • #24 RB/DL Trent Allen, Sr., 5-10, 201 (108 carries, 1,170 yards, 21 TDs; 82 tackles, 15 for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 sack, 2 INTs, 1 defensive TDs) Pretty good size kid. Their primary back. Doesn't show that much speed.
    • #25 WR Jaden Lewis, Jr. (27 catches, 742 yards, 10 TDs)One of their top receivers
    • #7 WR Desmon Deason, Jr., 5-10, 170 (30 catches, 439 yards, 5 TDs) Another top receiver
    • #2 WR/LB Bryce Attaway, Sr., 5-9, 160 (15 catches, 234 yards, 4 TDs; 103 tackles, 25 for loss, 5 sacks, 5 PBUs, 3 forced fumbles)
    • #12 LB Max Hale, Sr., 5-9, 170 (128 tackles, 10 for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack, 1 INT)
    • #45 DB Matt Adams, Sr., 6-0, 170 (82 tackles, 20 for loss, 3 INTs, 1 PBU, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles)

In 3A D2 region IV there is two teams with 2-8 records going to the playoffs. On the other hand Newton is playing the fourth place team out of region 3 district eleven which is 8-2. I think 2-4 teams in that district is 5-2 in their District.

One problem woodville has is they don’t really play a consistent amount of stiff competition to challenge themselves. Yes, they are undefeated. They have beaten some winning teams, but if you look at their schedules they have beaten losing teams as a majority. I’m sure not a lot of teams want to play woodville around here which hampers their success, mixed in with a district with teams with 2-3 wins on the year doesn’t help. I’d like to see them play people like silsbee, or lumberton, or even newton to see where the cards fall. Winning district championships is great without a doubt. Going undefeated in regular season is a great feat, but losing at the same point every year can get frustrating.

JMO If your losing at the same point every season you might want to look at what your doing wrong. Not what your doing right. Look at what is consistently winning it all. Maybe emulate that.

  8. I believe in order for you to make deep runs into the playoffs you must have a complete team.  You must be able to throw the ball well also. Woodville has the athletes to compete with anyone in their division in the State.  But I believe you must spread the ball around and keep your opponents off balance. I think that has to be your mentality if you're going to compete for State Championships.  You may win a Championship or two every 20 years with a dominant running team but if you are a serious threat throwing the ball as well you will be much more successful. Elisian Fields has already beat Dangerfield this year. If it comes down to a tie I suppose that will be the tie breaker. Dangerfield plays Pewitt next week. Looks like they have a tougher schedule left. We will have to wait and see. Dangerfield has a pretty good quarterback.  Running or throwing. If he has time in the pocket he is very accurate.  The time factor in the pocket will not likely be and option against Newton. He's a good runner and waits on his blocking when he runs

Most likely he will have to throw while running for his life.
