A Sac bunt is what it is. A sacrificed at bat to move the runner closer to scoring for the next hitter.

If you don't get it down its because you walked or didn't do your job. Period.

It's not always easy to do but when called upon, it can change the game.

    Point in fact:

    Jasper vs BC - 2007?

Jasper bunted and stole their way right into a state title.

Sometimes you just can't explain baseball Aggies....

If you've played.... then the devil is in the details throughout a game.

Each player has a job to do and if ALL the players involved do their job then the team wins.

No shame in losing a game if you've faced good pitching and were outplayed, but missed assignments and poor fielding is a death blow when facing a focused pitcher like Shugart when he's on.

In Silsbee's case, of the 11 district games, they have faced the opponent's #1 seven times. (that info per the opponents coaching staff)

No team in the district see's each team's #1 in every game.

    Same goes in MLB.

    Again, it's all relevant.

Silsbee has scored 44 runs in 11 district games (4 run per game average). Last night was first time Silsbee was shut out in a district game this year.

Since when is a 4 run average not enough offense in baseball?

    BC- 43 runs in 10 games (4.3)
    WO-S- 46 in 10 games (4.6)
    LC-M- 60 in 10 games (6.0)
    HJ- 72 in 12 games (6.0)

TragicHippy only said those people lived in Lumberton.  Their kids actually go to PNG, Kelly, Legacy, Evadale, HJ, etc, etc.   :)

Grant has just as much to do with the streak as Aidan did, that's my point. It becomes "widely assumed" that whoever throws against Silsbee is the other teams ace, it's been like that for a few years. Both Anderson's are exceptional and capable of being called "ace" every time they toe the rubber. As far as stats go I can agree with you on the point that they don't tell the entire story. On the other it's all we, as fans, have to use as comparisons so when someone says "look at the numbers" that's what happens.

True but not that bad. Sorry. My opinion.

But I will say that particular batter takes too long getting in box.

So I'm assuming you don't think that Grant is just as good as Aidan? In this district you take a win when you can get it.

With just two games remaining on their schedule, this very young Silsbee Tiger baseball team can get at least a share or even outright district championship.

Who da thunk it? :) :)

I know many, including the faithful Tiger fans, did not see this coming.

Michael Nelson should get COY of district 24-4A.

    Dunn (3B, P) is a freshman.

Collins (RF) and Murray (2B) are freshman starters too.

Bayless (1B), Partain (SS, P) Sundgren (P, SS, 3B) and Mackey (CF) are soph. starters.

I am looking at all of these posts and I simply cannot believe all of the vitriol being directed at Chris Babin.

First of all, this is not intended to be a shot at Larry Haynes as he is a good coach and just as good of a man.  Folks, may be upset at Coach Haynes' dismissal, but how is that Coach Babin's fault?  All he did was attempt to move up from a position at a 3A, Division I school to a 5A school.  If folks are that mad at the Lumberton ISD, then they need to send them a message at the ballot box, but do not look for Coach Babin to fail (or even worse, wish him to).  As whoever the coach is, the desires of Lumberton for a winning team, as well as the fortunes of several young men, are tied to that coach's success.

I have also seen folks question Coach Babin's record while at Scarborough, Deweyville and Warren.  Come on! Scarborough?  Anybody who really needs to wonder what the problem is over there, I'll just send you the West Orange-Stark game tape.  And while Deweyville and Warren are teams which are replete with kids who work their butts off, they both suffer the problem of being outsized both in student population and size on the field.  Anyway, you cannot judge a Coach's record at another school.  Heck, Cornel Thompson, coach of the 2014 Class 4A, Division II runner up, was 2-8 in his stint as in his first head coaching job at Palestine (Coach T, I am so sorry about the reminder and I know a Mustang Mile is in my near future!).  But good coaches don't always have good records at every stop along the way!

Finally, I hear the concern that Coach Babin is some sort of vagabond coach that will jump from job to job at the drop of the hat.   He had a chance to get out of a bad situation at Scarborough and he took it.  He had a chance at Deweyville to move to a bigger school in Warren so he took that opportunity and again took advantage of that situation in moving to Lumberton.  PLUS, it was a chance for Coach Babin to return home to Lumberton.  When Alvin Creduer did that a few years back, he was hailed as a conquering hero.  Further, a number of coaches have jumped to the chance to coach at their alma maters.  Why is it that Coach Babin is the one ridiculed for that?

I can't promise that Chris Babin will have any more success at Lumberton than any other coach.  But let's hold off on the lynch mob before he has even conducted his first practice at the school!

Nice win Cardinals. Shugart threw good game. I enjoyed watching him. Pounded strike zone but had to work for it.

Silsbee had a couple chances after that quick start but the big hit didn't come. Shugart was the reason.

Silsbee threw Sr. Cole Burris, not Dunn. Burris pitched ok but didn't catch any breaks. Soph. Noah Whitted came on in relief Bottom of 3rd. Whitted threw 3+ innings of shutout ball. Fantastic job by the young man to keep doors from being blown off.

    So in summary:

    Silsbee plays BC. Conspiracy over.

Good job Tigers. Solid game against top notch pitching. Box score rarely reflects the actual game.

So my only problem with this whole statement, made by ONE (1) Silsbee fan, is that pretty much all of these comments seem to be directed at the "players".

    1) "HJ is seeing everyone's Ace and Silsbee has been able to reap the benefits of it...."
Last time I checked Silsbee Players don't make lineups or pick pitchers.
    2) "Grow up and hit the ball better next game"..
Really??  If not for baseball gods, could you really guarantee a win?  Seems as though they were doing ok.
    3) "why cant you just be a graceful looser instead of a whiner?.."
One comment.  Now they are ungraceful losers and whiners.  Don't think it was a player who made the comment.

Quote the comment next time and address "that person", from which the statement was made.

Hardin Jefferson (8 Srs, 6 Jrs, 2 Sophs, 1 Freshman), sees everyones "Ace" because Silsbee baseball was not considered a threat.
So now that they, Silsbee Baseball (3 Srs, 2 Jrs, 5 Sophs, 4 Freshmen) with only 1 returning starter, might be a serious threat to win this District, they will see more "Aces".

So if I read this right, HJ Baseball players will get to reap the benefits of seeing the "lesser talented" pitchers that Silsbee has seen.
It is baseball.  Anything can happen.
I congratulate HJ baseball on the win, Silsbee Baseball Players, not fans, accepted the loss despite the situation described here.
