I wish him all the luck in the world, but Liberty missed a big opportunity with this hire. There was another candidate who could've really worked to take that program in the right direction. I guess the decision makers weren't interested in taking that route. Either way, Congrats Coach Harrision.

How do you know that Harrison is not a big opportunity? I don't really know him, but maybe just maybe he is what Liberty needs. I was just wondering what you know about Harrison that doesn't make him a big opportunity.

  2. 59n Sports, yes the AD is a very loyal person to the students and his coaching staff, heck of a guy. I have sat and talked with him a bunch nothing but respect for him and his family. He is very good for Shepherd. The 1 coach is the same, and the players love him. The new one, I hear nothing but great things about. My daughter has him in class and says he is a great person and teacher. And for her to say that speaks volumes. Agree on all accounts. I do understand about the hometown politics, everybody has them. Look at WOS this year!!

  3. 59n Sports, well said. I agree on it all.

TrojanMojo agreed, again I was not bashing on Coldspring, I don't have a kid on the football team anymore. I did talk with about 5-6 players after the volleyball game Shepherd had in Coldspring, everyone was very respectful, but I just didn't get that IT factor that Coldspring always had. Not that they didn't want to win and they very specifically told me they were bring the trophy back home. But the true IT factor just wasn't there. If you know what I am trying to say.

I have questioned for a long time now, why Shepherd has had two Coldspring hometown guys running our program and on the coaching staff and now a third one, but they have not came back home to coach. I don't have the answer. I can tell you that Shepherd loves all three of those guys and they do a heck of a job turning our young guys in to men. We may not win all the time, but the greater picture is perfectly clear. Don't get me wrong everyone wants to win every game, but when you see the guys turned into fine adults that is truly the biggest win a coach can have.

    Just an outside perspective.

Definitely... We have the athletes but if we need a change it's starts up top and to be honest (I've been reserving my judgement on this in particular) but the coach has to go. (No offense to him)  The type of players we have aren't made for this type of offense and we still have talent coming up soon so I hope he doesn't waste it with them running this type of offense.  A person that I know that is personally close to the team told me before the season that we would be 6-4 and miss the playoffs and now I'm thinking that's not a wild notion now.

I hate to tell you but the Trojan's do not have the same type of kids they had back in the 80', 90's and early 2000's. Not bashing but just not the same. We used to think of Coldspring as always reloading. Now it's a game that we think we can win every year. But you are correct the right coach could help change things, if that is what's the biggest problem.

  5. I just want to be clear that we are bring this rule up again for mostly the WOS folks??? One year out of the last how ever many they are not doing as good as some people think and everyone has lost their minds. I thought WOS got what they wanted?😅

I was misinformed.  Somebody told me Shepherd was much improved.  They lied.

I be honest most teams in this region will get beat like that by Hardin. They are a very good team. The match up between Hardin and East Bernard will be good. Shepherd has a long way to go, but they are not even close to ready to compete with Hardin.

On a side note. With all of those banners that Hardin has hanging in that gym, you would think they could come up with a bigger gym or more seating. Other than that the Hardin fans were very good to us.

  7. No they won't, Shepherd does have some height couple of 6'ers. But the team are still putting it together. Replacing their setter and ds (both were 4 year starters). So the timing and back court play is not gelling yet and the timing is off on their hitting. Maybe if this game would take place later in the year but not right now.

You're relentless, I'll give you that!

Have you seen all school age groups recently play to make these statements? Just wondering what your basis is other than the obvious underlying hatred. Their 8th grade group from last year lost 2 games all year long in football and lost only one game in basketball. Those kids are now Freshmen in high school and some were forced into the spotlight onto varsity because of how many starting seniors graduated last year. Their graduating QB left to play baseball for West Point, a couple baseball players went to play college ball and they had one of the better basketball teams that's come through in a while led by 5 starting seniors who should have beat Dibol in the playoffs had their 6th man and maybe second best shooter not had been flagrantly fouled where he broke his arm. Oh by the way no foul was called because the ref said the kid hit the ball and turned into 2 points their direction.....but I digress.... haha

flashback to this year - They had a sophmore who started most of the games at QB, a Freshman WR and another WR that hadn't played football since he was in middle school. The starting middle linebacker who was a sophmore got hurt and thus pressed another freshman into the starting role. Starting freshman safety. The current 8th grade team had some decent skill position players but they were weak on the offensive line. Not trying to make claims about how unbelievably talented they are but there is SOME talent here.

Your statement about the 8th grade team is what needs to change in Tarkington. Let me explain. I have seen a many of Tarkington's 7th & 8th grade teams that were pretty good in comparison to others they played in jr. high. Then high school comes along and those same kids that won a ton in jr. high can't seem to win at the high school level. Why is that? what changes, because most of the kids are the same on each team. Is it coaching, or is it the Parents not pushing the kids to put in the work? I am truly wanting to know the answer to this. A coach can push a kid as much as he wants but if that is not backed up and continued by the parents then it's not going to happen. Until Tarkington gets a coach that can get thru to the kids and have the backing of the parents to push them, then it will never change.

I watched when my son was in jr. high and Tarkington would beat them both years 7th & 8th. pretty bad, but when high school came around it was reversed. As good as Tarkington was in jr. high they should of been able to build on that and at least compete at the high school level, but they couldn't. So What gives?

  9. Some of you guys have beat a dead horse to death. If need be I can start a thread about Art Briles and how smart some of you are about winning State Championships. I thought the title was about Tarkington??? You guys have made this thread 8 pages long trying to prove how smart you are about nothing. Carry on.

Very good  post. Most people talking trash are ones that don't have kids that are affected. This could easily be true for a lot of the smaller districts in the area. Hull, Hardin, Shepherd, Hardin Jefferson,  Kountze, Kirbyville, WH etc.. Even bigger schools like Livingston and Cleveland, all will have dry years where talent is sparse. Tarkington has some good years, but talent in regards to schools they play is not on an even playing field. Hardin Jefferson had one of the best coaches in East Texas but had trouble the last few years, because they don't have what Silsbee, Jasper, and WOS have.  I do believe Tarkington a chance to win some games with the right schedule. In regards to coaching I do believe they need someone that can recruit and keep kids out, but they must have parent/community support or they will fail.

I don't disagree with yours or pairiemans' post at all. I think what some of these folks are trying to get at is why does Tarkington go thru so many coaches? It may be just a stepping stone like has been said. Above you mentioned some of the smaller schools that do and have had dry years no doubt (God know Shepherd has been going thru one for a couple years), but some of those schools still have the same AD/HC. So is it the parents? Is it not winning? Is it the school board? Or what is the problem? Just trying to figure that out.

You know there are folks on here given the chance could solve the entire world's problems (they and their town are just that great) but don't let them get to you. Most of the guys from the bigger cities do not get country life, so instead of trying to understand they throw insults because that is what they do.

  11. Parents is what I have been told. For a team that does not win on the Football field, the parents seem to think they have more D1 talent than 6A schools do. You know it is never that the kids just aren't good enough, its got to be the coach. Tarkington could hire any SEC Head Coach and he would be ran out of town within two years.
