  1. i do believe so. Hushpuppy is always a solid choice too if you like fried seafood. Can't go wrong with Whataburger either. Great choice in any city.
  2. This will sound like the most Vidor thing ever...but there is an actual restaurant inside Vidor Walmart. Seats maybe 20 people. Cajun Works. It is..amazing. Brave the wilderness that is Vidor Walmart and try it. Menu is pretty simple, but that's not a bad thing. Food is fantastic. Edit - Boneyard beat me to it!! See...we are in agreement
  3. I know you specifically asked not to be called a heretic, but I must... You heretic.
  4. Splitting hairs on that call. To a Vidorian's ear, I couldn't tell it THAT far apart. But to you folks across the pond, that enter the world with it playing in the nursery..I'll take your word for it. Cherokee, Cherokee Lite, whatever you want to call it...it's Cherokee to me. Forgive my stubbornness, I just don't like being wrong. Probably get that from my paternal grandmother..who is from Port Neches.
  5. They don't play near as much. But I am positive it was Cherokee, and not the "other song that sounds like it" ..like Florida State's song that people always think is Cherokee. It's all good! I'll make a mistake today, I promise.
  6. I heard Cherokee when they played Vidor. I was sitting on the visitor side.. I don't think they play it with every 3 yard gain (exaggeration, don't hit me) like PNG, but they most definitely did play Cherokee.
  7. Don't sleep on Santa Fe.. I did, and boy was I wrong. Sitting there like Rocky in his first match with Clubber Lang. Come out swinging, next thing you know you're knocked out and your trainer dies. (2nd part didn't happen in the Vidor game though) But seriously. Santa Fe was impressive. The offensive playcalling was well executed. Their receivers don't drop a lot of passes. QB can sling it, or run. and their defense is speedy and decent sized. Shug has a clutch ability, so you never want to rule out the purple Indians. I'll pick PNG...just because they play Cherokee louder than Santa Fe does. If we all have a personal hell awaiting us...I think a glimpse of mine would be in PNG's stadium this Friday. 3 hours of a continuous Cherokee loop. Better change my ways.
  8. Looking at records, Nederland. Looking at Vidor's uncanny ability to play the spoiler that beats the district leader, and lose to the middle of the road teams.. Vidor. I honestly don't know who to go with. Probably Nederland. Always will love my Pirates, win or lose. But this is one of those years they just keep coming up short in hard played games. Like the jinx of the bad news bears or something.
  9. I have a bottle of the Balvenie 14. Only comes out for special occasions. But if I catch you shooting it, you might get shot. You sip and enjoy. Try some.. good stuff.
  10. Sounds like a great game. Congrats PNG. Crosby, nothing to hang your head about. Good kids.. fans need some work, but that's just about anybody's fans... from little league to pros... fans are the ones that make people dislike towns and teams.
  11. Santa Fe has some size and speed. Nobody to sleep on. They run hard. They pass a lot. They're tough to bring down. They will fit in well in this district. Nobody's whipping child that's for sure. Good game, Indians.
  12. I get the decision to not do fireworks...classy move, though it does break tradition. But it seems like there was another time when we didn't do fireworks due to drought or something. But I can't help but facepalm.. no fireworks tonight so we don't trigger any ptsd ...so let's move it to... veteran's day ...I see.
  13. did it happen at the vidor game? he did land awkwardly in that 1st QTR hurdle attempt, but he was walking around on it on the sideline. I've torn both of mine..there is no walking around after an ACL tear. Unless I'm unusually soft, but I feel like my pain tolerance is higher than normal.... and I thought he played last week? might be mistaken on that.
  14. Like Tim listed... Luker was a pure linebacker with the stats and accolades to back it up. I'd take him on my team any day. Rick was fast...but he had a good mind for football too. Excellent returner, and I liked him even more on defense. He had a lot of INT's. it's a shame Vidor experimented with a west coast offense for 1 year when he became QB..he would have done some damage if they remained an Option team. Definitely didn't play to his strengths on that choice.
  15. Nobody repping Vidor yet.. I could make a list of some talented athletes I'd want on my team any day..but since we'll stick to the award winners and stat champs... Jeff Luker Rick Culbert Montana Quirante
  16. I feel like it's pretty even on paper. Hope the Pirates haven't unpacked their rucksacks just yet. Another war on the horizon. I might even be sitting on the PNG side with a friend of mine. So if you see a man and his 4 year old in pirate gear in a sea of purple, looking lost as hell with your cult-like chanting and chopping...just disregard us..we don't bite..
  17. Gave them all they could handle and then some when every body marked you down for an L before kickoff. Proud of you, Pirates! Good game, Cougs!
  18. I'm depending on you guys to keep it updated. My 3 year old barely lasted til halftime. Lol.. life of dad.
  19. Oddly enough, I find it comical that you're so hard for them. Shots fired. I'm kidding... hey it's a game. Someone will win. Someone will lose. Sometimes, you can even win by losing as long as you leave it all on the field and can live knowing there is absolutely nothing else you could have done to change that game. There are invaluable lessons in sports...beyond the results on the score board.
  20. Hey! You and Bootleg both... line up or pair up, I don't care. but seriously...I love that about my neighborhood. if it's not Dallas flags, it's UT, or aTm .. it's like walking out in Pleasantville. Wives borrow sugar, the pits and smokers are going on the weekend during football season, the atvs get loaded up... just the little grandeur of it all that make you appreciate your blessings.
  21. I haven't been on this thread since it was only 3 pages. Wow. Things have taken a turn. I wish I could say for the better. But some of you guys, man... have some class. Unfortunately, it can't be taught. Neither can heart. I try not to take offense to people saying they don't want to live in Vidor. Keeps the traffic to a minimum. Personally, I love this little community. It's a community of mostly hardworking folks that get up every morning and tend to business. It's a bedroom community much like Orangefield, Bridge City, etc. People live here because it's neighboring the big industrial cities and the commute isn't so bad. I'll tell you another thing...you folks that live and walk like you're high and mighty...you're not. In my travels, I can tell you that people are pretty much the same all over. Don't believe me? Go to any Walmart, lol. Hell, I saw a rough looking lady walking on Boston Avenue in Nederland this week.. tank top, dirty jeans, no shoes. And I was like..Jeez, did she walk all the way from Vidor like that? A little self-depreciation is humbling. To those of you running down this little town, I hope you're joking. I love my neighborhood, and my community as a whole (well mostly...not too far north, and not too far south.) Especially during football season. I walk out my front door on Saturday mornings... pretty much all the men are doing yardwork, kids are riding bikes, the Cowboys flags get put out next to our American flags. Point is - Having a standard of living doesn't equate to high standard of life. The poorest..absolutely poorest people I know..only have money. Back on topic - I'm pulling for Vidor, but I know it won't come easy. They will have to play a near flawless game. Might have trouble breaking away for 60, but 10, 6s work out the same way. Speedy teams...You just keep punching them in the mouth, and knocking them on their butts, and they will get tired of picking themselves up. Control the tempo, take care of the ball, take care of each other, and miracles happen everyday.
  22. This is something that has always irked me.. I wish alignment was done with athletic enrollment instead of total enrollment. Would be difficult to do, I know..but for a school with just north of 1000 kids, Vidor fields a relatively small number of kids. I don't know if that's due to parents looking to keep their kids away from contact sports or what. Anyway, on topic -- Pulling for Vidor of course. Not having good thoughts about it though. But I do love a good underdog story. I did have the same apprehensive feeling toward Vidor vs. PAM in 2016 though, and Vidor surprised me then..so..we'll see.
  23. I'll tell you someone else who had underrated speed on the football field.. when Andy Haeggquist was QB ..I didn't know he had the ability to take off like that. But some plays he really impressed me with that speed. I believe I heard he was the fastest kid in district at the 400m sprint??
  24. Rick also came just milliseconds behind Ivory "Chopper" Williams in the 100. That was a fun showdown. Along with Rick, Troy Maddox not only had tremendous linear speed, he had some sick moves. Johnny Travis, and Doug Sims were great powerbacks. Dwayne Anderson didn't have blazing speed..but he had the best balance out of anyone I've ever played with. He was like watching a pinball get bounced around.
