1. Hey wins are hard to come by for some of us. In 2001, We made up a trophy and declared ourselves Mid County Champs for beating both Nederland and PNG in the same year. I'd wager I'll dead before we do that again, and I was just a sophomore then. So...we'll see. LOL
2. Do you happen to know the all time series figures, or are you going by memory? Not contradicting you, I'm just curious.
3. If I had a meme of the lady with 1st world problems, I'd serve it to you. A shared title..2 years in a row...3rd round depth... I would love to have your problems. All in good fun, friendo.
4. PNG will be fine come district time. Always are. Up year, down year, doesn't matter. Always a competitive team. Not going to lie, some of you sound pretty spoiled on being dominant, and have a hard time just being a good team. But then again..I've been a Vidor Pirate since birth, and the last 19 or 20 years have been a treat for the most part. Even the .500 seasons are a treat to some of us. You can't have Long's and Roschon's every year...but this is my favorite part about team sports - You don't need the best players..you need the right players.
5. Playoffs, smlayoffs... no time to be dbags to each other. Cause when my team goes out, I'm cheering for anyone in our district.
6. Some of you cats take this a little too seriously. They're kids. They play a game. You trash talk each other over how kids play a game better than other kids playing a game like it gives you or your community some sort of edge in quality of living. Then you ride their coattails like the Xbox controller is in your hand, and you're responsible for how deep they went in the playoffs 4 years ago or whatever. Christ all Friday, man.
7. Here's what I love about team sports... you don't need the best players, you just need the right players. You need guys that will fight every play, never give up, outwork, outhit, and outlast the opponents. You can beat a talented team if you completely demoralize them. You can beat a good team if they continuously have to pick themselves up off the ground. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
8. I don't feel comfy talking to you about Vidor's capabilities until after this week is over. LOL
9. oh i know..but that's part of the game.. .the slot T worked great the 1st quarter...then...it kinda fizzled. and I wish it didn't, cause I love the slot T ..it's an exciting formation when executed. a 3 headed monster of confusion and misdirection. but I was growing curious how many sweeps we were going to run for little to no gains for the remaining 3 quarters. I will say I think the pirates were driving better before they continuously had the flags.. I was really impressed with the Pirate D ...save for the 1 on 1 coverage..but the run D was great. That Joey kid was all over the place. Anyway..this is my last post about the Nederland game on this thread
10. The closest either got was Vidor at the 8 going in. Fumbled snap on 3rd down resulted in a missed FG from the 12 on 4th. Other than that...I think 33 yards was shortest touchdown. I THINK.... don't hold me to it... it was a pretty hot day lol
11. true..but I will tell you...in all of years as a player, and spectator..I've never seen a game that had zero drives. 7 total touchdowns between vidor and ned, and they were all off the homerun ball. but..wrong post. just throwing that out there lol
12. I'm usually the one clamoring for the bands to wear their traditional uniforms...I know at least in vidor, they will oft-times go tees/jeans in unfavorable weather conditions..i was honestly impressed that both bands were in their actual uniforms for Saturday's game. Questionable idea... but was shocked/impressed that they did it. This will be a redundant statement - but Saturday day games just don't have the pomp of Friday night.
13. Well it was pretty hot out there... he might still be in puddle form. I know that even with an umbrella, the right side of my face took such a beating, that I'm loosely resembling Sandor Clegane this week.
14. Vidor will need to work on that QB/Center exchange as well. Too many fumbled snaps in that Ned game. For a system like the slot T, each play is precious to get the next first down.
15. I was a sophomore when Vidor beat Nederland in 2001 in a non-district game ..the first game after the 9/11 attacks. I remember the stands showed some beautiful unity in passing around a giant American flag in the Vidor stands, and the visiting Nederland stands. I also remember that game being a very defensive struggle. It came down to the final play being a blocked field goal that allowed Vidor to win 10-8. We did react like it was the biggest victory we'd ever been a part of. And to many of us, it was. I think that was the first time we had beaten Nederland in a few decades. And while that victory was huge to us...that's only a tremendous compliment to a perennial powerhouse like the Dogs were. And though Vidor won that game.. Nederland got the last laugh by going deep into the playoffs if I remember correctly, where Vidor came up short in making the playoffs in 19-4A that year. Weird year.. Beat Nederland, Beat PNG...couldn't get in playoffs in our district.
16. I wasn't aware this was a rivalry either. I mean they always seem to play each other hard, but when Vidor wins, Nederland folks act like it was just a loss and nothing more. I definitely think the game means more to Vidor in terms of rivalry. Besides, Nederland is occupied with some purple school in a rivalry that dates back to the Cretaceous period, back when they invented football for all to enjoy.
17. I never like blaming refs. But I did see some pretty egregious non-calls. I saw a line judge miss a Vidor defender having the neck of his jersey being stretched out so badly, you'd think the defender was hauling that Nederland lineman on a sled behind him. What I hated most were the uncalled personal fouls. The absurdly late hits. That's where Mathews really gets fired up. Thing is - There's so many "what ifs"...What if Vidor got that holding call in their favor that I mentioned above? It could've resulted in Ned completing a huge pass. Like a man said "and if only thing had happened differently..." and just left it at that for your own speculation.

Wow..just realized...we have been playing each other a loooonnng time.
Good lord that's a lot of goose eggs back in the day!!! LOL  I like the 2000-2011 games a little better, at least they were closer!!  I work with a lady who is from PNG and every year I decorate our entire hallway and her office in black and gold.  Last year I had a jersey and helmet sitting in her office along with black and gold balloons galore!!  I told her this year I will not put her through the agony.  ;D
I graduated in 1976.  Look at '71 through '74. I have a long memory; run the score up.
You must've graduated with one of those Kennon boys. Hope it doesn't make you feel too old that I'm an offspring.
19. Wow, I know PNG is having a down year, and admittedly, I know nothing about the team they field this year. But these predictions make PNG out to be the bad news bears or something, and it's quite shocking for me to read. I wish the Pirates to win, but stranger things have happened. They better not take them lightly just because they're on a roll, and PNG is down. Remember, the person who will do the most damage, is the one you don't see coming. Better show up to play, Pirates. Any team with at least 11 dressed players can win at any time. Mistake free football is always the best place to start. What's that old Mathews' formula he used to preach to us? Hard Work + Dedication = Luck
20. I'll take Lumberton. Passing - Lumberton Running - Lumberton Defense - Lumberton SpTeams - Both lack a little to be desired. Unnecessary celebration horn - Draw
21.
Ok I am getting old and memory is going I guess. I appologize you are right ...lol   Mujst have been that cold monsoon we sat in at Cardinal stadium that night.
It's ok. I wouldn't remember it so well, except that it was during my tour of duty as a Pirate. Penny, yeah, Mathews used that as a motivation point for us in the off-season. It's been some time, so I don't remember the exact words, but during our workouts, he'd march around shouting things like, Nederland is a team you beat! And here they are going to the semis, and you're stuck here. How mad does that make you? It better make you furious!
22. They didn't beat Ned at all in 2000. Ned beat them @ Ned. Then beat them again in the playoffs. It was the next year that Vidor beat Ned 10-8
23. Gosh Dangit, I've been to all but one game this year, and now I'm going to miss the most important one. I wish I could be there. I'm picking the Pirates, because according to everyone else, Vidor and Livingston are pretty similar, only Vidor is better at executing in the similarities.
24. I'm not taking anything away from Ned by what I'm about to say, but those refs were an absolute joke, and made bad calls for both sides. 1.) Nederland's first TD. The ref across the field, runs all the way over, to say he caught the ball in the back of the endzone, because he sees a footprint? Because the field was in perfect condition, and that was the only footprint made there all day, apparently. 2.) I saw some of Vidor's receivers being held while they were trying to run their route. I saw the ref put his hand on his flag as if he were a gunslinger, and I really thought he wanted to throw it. I guess not. 3.) That was an awful call on Nederland for roughing the passer. Sure the whistle blew a few seconds prior, but it's not like the Nederland defender tried to hurt anyone..he bumped into him with his shoulder pad, lol. Tough break on that one, Dogs, but good job tightening up when you needed to. 4.) The ultimate backbreaker, the forward pass ruled a fumble. Be proud, Dogs. You're making a great effort to comeback after everyone wrote you off. I tribute that to your athletes and coaches. It's easy to give up when you're in that position, but I applaud the things you're doing in the face of adversity. Pirates, you'll get a break sooner or later. You kind of remind of the bad news bears at times. You try so hard, and get little to show for it at times.
25. Sometimes I think I may be one of the few remaining humble Vidor fans this season. I'm taking the Pirates. If it's good conditions, gonna be a tough one. If it's a sloppy field, I think Vidor will do even better vs. Ned. Those legs of the Pirates are good for mudding.
