I know the thread title, but give me a HC that can adapt to their talent every season and not afraid to do it because they're "stuck in their ways". And that's for basketball and football as far as HS.

I remember that the posts in this thread are the first posts that @Trufan has posted in this forum in over 5 years (5/16/2015).  Six years older than the two "agitators" the you branded posted in this forum ( @2wedge in May of this year; @SmashMouth in February).
I do remember that the ax that trufan has to grind with Cornel Thompson has been carried by him for a long time. And that everybody who dared to disagree with him was dismissed as having a blind allegiance to Coach Thompson (much like he did here). And which I am sure that at some point soon I will be accused of.
I do remember that any issue with a Mustang African-American player he took the side of the player, any issue with a white player he cast doubt on.....heck he even panned Jack Dallas.
So I remember that he has an issue with Cornel Thompson.
Is it racial? I do know of a faction, small but loud, who opposed Cornel Thompson's hiring simply due to the fact that he was a white man.  I do know that he tried to infer that there was racism within the WO-C ISD athletic department.  Mind you, this is a district in which the superintendent of schools is African-American, the president of the school board is African-American, the African-American members of the school board outnumber the whites on the school board 5-2. The principal at West Orange-Stark is African-American.  Yet, none of them have registered this complaint....and with the current state of media, you know we would know about it if they did!  I do know that the "about the kids" has been abandoned in favor lamenting that "blacks can only get jobs in Beaumont, Port Arthur or Orange" talking about "head coaches"......not basketball head coaches, as his attribution of color would be wrong, not ADs as the number of ADs would be wrong, but a ratio that EXACTLY matches the racial makeup of HEAD FOOTBALL COACHES in this area.
So, yeah, I think it is entirely reasonable to infer his posts have nothing to do with other sports and that has a lot to do with the fact that a white coach is head football coach at West Orange-Stark.

I prefer the kind of basketball that gives my team the best chance to win.  Don’t care if it’s “real” or not.  Argyle does what they do better than any other team in 4A does what they do. Real or not.

not sure what you mean by “real basketball”, but both these teams beat a lot of “real teams” to get here. 30+ wins for each of them with only one loss each. That’s about as “real” as it gets.

What they have is a great school district, a nice community, and a commitment to all athletics from the school board down.  But the biggest draw for them I think is location.  For families in the Fort Worth and Denton area that are looking for a smaller/suburban setting there isn’t a better choice right now. The growth going north of Fort Worth up I35 towards Denton is absurd.  And Argyle is the benefactor.  They are basically Southlake Carroll 25 years ago.
It also helps they probably occasionally get a transfer or two from Southlake, Keller, Flower Mound or Northwest ISD.
I don’t expect Argyle to stay 4A much longer.

Yates beating Silsbee by 16 is possible. I hope it is not more.  I mean, JJ Watt is gone, Deshaun Watson is as good as gone, Springer took a big payday (and tax hit) in Toronto.   Ain't too much more the sports world can do to me.  Bring it.

Thanks man, I’ve been pretty involved on here the last 3 years with my son on varsity football and basketball but he’s a Senior so hopefully someone else takes the reigns as the SETXsports updater for the Vidor next season. The Pirates aren’t very good at times but they certainly keep things interesting. Going to miss it but life moves on, to college on academics for this one we hope. 🤞

I don’t know anything about this years Vidor basketball team. Have zero ties to the school. I’m positive I’ve never spent more than 5 minutes of my life inside the city limits of Vidor. But the way this guy updates the games and describes the action keeps me coming back each week to see how the Vidor Pirates did.

Now they sort it out after the break, Vidor seriously hampered for the second half. Only 7 players available, starting PG ejected for a double tech I assume, starting Center and wing ejected for coming off the bench. LCM big comes out to the bench after the half but is ejected and has to make the walk of shame back to the locker room. Much to the delight of the Vidor crowd.

i am the fan that was ejected. let my emotion get best of me. BUT nothing was said to any player, nothing threatening, derogatory, and no cuss words.
i told ref he sucked and his mom must be disappointed in him. and he tossed me for that sentence. nothing more and nothing less.
the tigers played a better game and not saying lumberton should have won, and not saying they would have won with better refs.

Just a little upset about this game, the boys had a good chance to win this one. #12 was playing well with 16 points, we had the lead with 4 minutes to go and he fouls out... Got an early technical foul that the ref was fooled on, it was a little retaliation shove after a guy chest bumped him. Then tried to play rim protector on defense, blocked a guy clean twice but got called for a foul on the second one. They always want to go for the block but these refs are just itching to call a foul if you extend your arms towards the shooter and swat the ball. These are teaching moments though, they always call the second guy on a dust up and I’m sure LCM was looking to get some cheap fouls on him. It worked, gotta learn from it and keep improving. Can’t be going for blocks with 4 fouls even if you get the ball clean. Go straight up like they always say, let the guy score if you have to but stay in the game. This team could win if they would start hitting some shots, probably went 3 for 15 beyond the arc.
#0 was looking good for LCM but went down hard, hopefully he’s ok. You hate to see that happen to such a good player, the kid has some serious range on his shot.

90-32 final, turns out starting JV backups is not a winning formula for Varsity basketball. I will say the kids that played gave it their best effort. There’s just nothing you can do under these circumstances.

I did, I was not expecting the game to be much different than it turned out to be. The stadium is in a very nice neighborhood, quite different than your normal high school stadiums. Very little room on the visitors side from the field to the stands. I was on the top row and you could hear the coaches talking to the players. It was not easy finding the parking garage for the visitors which was on a one way street with road construction. The bag pipes playing before the game gave a unique feeling. You could tell they have lots of tradition and community support. I'm glad I made the trip.

I’m no mathematician. But I think if you took the smallest 5A (1230 students per this graphic from the UIL) and combined it with another small 5A. You would have at least 2460 kids.. which appears to be above the 2220 threshold for 6A schools.

I've been following basketball, high school basketball, Silsbee basketball for at least 55 years.  I have yet to see a coach, even some considered 'a good coach' (for some that's a euphemism for deeper & uglier issues) take a team lacking in talent to anywhere significant.  Good coaches and teams with lots of talent generally gravitate together, like beans and rice, BBQ & potatoe salad.  It just works that way. Would to goodness  basketball forums and people who post to basketball forums who actually know basketball worked that way, but that is not always the case.  Enough of that.
I've seen or heard of a lot of good Silsbee coaches: Dan Montgomery, Fred Williams, Travis Williams, coach Green, Sigler.  They were all good coaches IMO. Coach Sigler won two state championships.  Is he the best coach of them all?  Maybe, maybe not.  As someone posted his record speaks for itself.
Also I've experienced Silsbee basketball teams being on the short end of some hard defeats and downright blowouts.  They got blown out by FB Bush in the FB tournament. Madison blew them off the court in a playoff warm up game.  Some big school beat em bad in the SA tournament.  Wagner did it too.  It BEs that way from time to time.  Sometimes you have the shotgun, other times you're dodging the pellets, figuratively speaking.
I drove out to Humble/Atascosita and watched HJ play Yates in a playoff game a few years ago.  'Good coaching' lasted about a half a quarter.  After that I couldn't hear myself think.  The Yates fans were making too much noise.  Stuff like that happens in hs basketball, or any basketball.
There's an often quoted bible verse that is really not a bible verse: This too shall pass.
