Lol.  Seeing as the admin building is directly across from the stadium I doubt it.  Also Katy’s old stadium wasn’t anything special either.  You don’t like the facilities?  Put in your own money or vote for a bond.  Stop running down the program. Those facilities aren’t the worst in the state or even this area. Either that or move your butt somewhere where you like the facilities and then you can gripe about the tax rate and the cost of housing.

First off, I don't live in Nederland and never have. Second, I played many games there and coached some games there. The new renovations they are making are the first they have made since even before I played there in the 80's. They are way behind times and they are just now trying to update things. But with the lack of revenue and citizens afraid of their taxes going up. It's hard to get a bond to pass to do the upgrades that are definitely needed. It was a shock to see the bond that did pass to get the renovations done that they have. I know a lot of people that live in Nederland and wish they could get the upgrades that are needed and not just patching up schools to make it look like they have. I'm just saying, if this coach sees that he can't get what he ask for he won't be there long.

Didn’t they pass a bond that included some athletic improvements?

Yeah, you know how many times that bond went to vote and got rejected? They had to adjust it and take things out and lower the original bond. They were trying to get a few more new schools built but it got shot down so they just patched them up to make it look like they were making an effort to update them. NISD is not an easy district to get a bond passed so the kids suffer.

The fact the Nederland is using Dodge to help find the next coach tells me they are serious about improvement.

They are saying they are using these three is nothing but a smoke screen. They have probably offered all three the job but they are all smart enough not to take the offer. First off they all would take a major pay cut but most important is they would have to put up with an incompetent administration who doesn’t do anything to help improve the athletic program when asked. They leave it to a bond issue where it has a slim chance it is going to pass……..What coach with any kind of clout, HC, OC, DC or other, would want to put up with that and be at the lower end of the pay scale?

If he wanted to coach again, then why isn’t he at Nederland?

I know you are probably being sarcastic but, that shouldn’t even be a question. Everybody knows Nederland is not going to pull in a high quality coach. Facilities and an administration that doesn’t care about athletic’s and a community that makes it tough to pass bonds to upgrade anything is not a very attractive job. Plus they will not pay the money that will be required to get a good quality guy. If somehow they convince another guy like Neuman to come in. He won’t stay long when he sees how tough it is to get anything done around there.

Only reason I can think of is the job hopping.

He has a son that is a going to be a freshman and is a QB. OF already has starting QB that started as a freshman last year. If they bring him in you know he would want his kid to be the QB. That would not sit well with the community because the freshman starter is very well liked by the players and community. OF community is very tight knitted. That’s probably a big reason they shied away from him.

Now, the question becomes, what process will NISD follow to select the new coach? Will they follow PNG’s and try to get a handpicked young guy with pedigree? Will they simply open it up statewide see who shows up? Or will they go in-house again?

With Nederland it will be the cheapest and easiest way possible.

  7. If it's true, Smalley is making a huge mistake going to BC. Most of their better athletes now days play strictly baseball. It will be almost impossible to convince them to play football. His reputation for turning programs around will be thrown out the window. If BC ever even starts SOMEWHAT competing on a consistent bases I'll be shocked. I know I wouldn't put my reputation on the line just to go home.
