DV got those conference from coaching at Alex Keith Park! Silsbee has a chance man. Yates absolutely has a unfair advantage. We will deal with it and play hard. If Silsbee can get hot on those free throws and rebound we got a shot! If Silsbee beats Yates it could be the greatest win in school history!

Unfortunately that's not about to happen.  How do you feel we have an unfair advantage?  Silsbee is talented and they have speed also.  They can crash the boards also.  In the 4th quarter against Kashemere, they had their way with the Rams.  Seems like it will be a great game for sure.

Sir, your 'unfair" advantage is that you do not develop your own players through your own system as they are growing up like most other schools must do.

Come on, it's clear what you are saying and it's been said.  We have been investigated by UIL and the district just like everyone else has who were accused of the same actions.  Can't argue that point because everyone has their opinion on that matter.  We are aware of what it looks like and what has been said.  We hope this will not sway anyone from supporting whichever team it is you will be supporting on Tuesday.  And after Tuesday, we hope that you will put your support behind us as we continue to press forward to take it all.

First off, we want to say that this is a pretty good site and we are doubly excited to be apart of it.  We're looking forward to playing Silsbee on Tuesday.  It's going to be very funny and sad in here around 7:30pm on Tuesday night.  All we are asking is that you guys come back in here and show your hands....all hands, from the freshmen to the seniors here.  We understand that you guys are pulling for your hometown and area teams.  Allow me to say how funny it is when you go back and read the comments that were posted prior to the HJ game.  You were so certain that this was it.  HJ would be the team that would no doubt bring down the LIONS.  As you are aware, it didn't work out that way.  It was even funnier to see the posts AFTER the game saying stuff like, " Proud of HJ.", "We hung with JY.", "I thought it would be worse than that.", HJ stuck with them for 3 quarters."  That's the problem, you have to come to play for 4 quarters!!  Some of you really should refrain from posting so many times because it shows how little you really know about this sport or any sport for that matter. Not sure if you're being optimistic or unrealistic.  But let's be real, if you really have knowledge of a sport, you would know just like we do, the ball can bounce any way on any given day.  Therefore, we take nothing for granted.  Some of you say we were afraid of Silsbee!  Come on, let's not be foolish, according to some of you guys YATES may be a lot of things, however, AFRAID, is not one of them!!  Make no mistake about it, our boys will lace up just like your boys will and they will bring their A game as well.  Do we want Silsbee to be afraid of us, of course not.  Will Silsbee lay down and be walked over, of course not, well,  not by choice anyway.  But I can tell you this, and mark it for the record, we are aware of what's at stake here and the importance of it.  We've done our homework, will make the necessary adjustments and expect to wage a good fight against the tigers.  We take nothing for granted and we know Silsbee is a good team and we expect to play like one.  But let's be honest here, it looks like you guys are running out of formidable teams that you said would hand us the that LOSS.  First it was HJ, then someone said the best team to complete the task at hand would be WOS.  Unfortunately, those guys are no longer with us. Looks like you are down to the last one, Silsbee.  But if you think it's going to be that easy, you guys are misinformed.  We know Silsbee is a good team, they wouldn't be here if they weren't and neither would we.  Are we where we would like to be, of course not, there's always room for improvement.  Just remember, our boys work hard just like the next one does.  Will we talk down on them because they want it just like the next, absolutely not.  We expect 100% and nothing less.  At the end of the day, our boys will give us all that they have and then some.  We know what our weaknesses are and we know what Silsbee's are too.  And we would be less than honest if we said we don't think we WILL beat Silsbee.  That is our goal and we expect too achieve it.  Also, let it be known that it will be a decisive win!!  We will play 4 quarters, for 32 minutes!! And the best team that night WILL WIN!! Hope to see you guys in the building on Tuesday.  We will be back in here after the game either way and we hope you guys will do the same.  We wish we had a spot like this in the city, competition and the ability to speak freely is always good.

The fans of Silsbee know what is at stake.
Some people on this board already think that Yates will beat Silsbee by 30+
It will be a very difficult game for Silsbee to win and the majority of Tiger fans realize that.

The Tigers have a lot of heart & pride and if Yates takes them lightly the Tigers have a chance.

Silsbee, has great speed.  The guards seems to handle the ball well.  When they played Kashmere we noticed that they were hungry and they forced several turnovers.  Their quickness allowed them to intercept many cross court passes which led to the ball going the other way and points on the board.  I think a lot of people are underestimating this game in it's entirety.  We expect it to be a good one.

I have to disagree. Yates players were trying to intimidate Silbee's players after the HJ game. I am a witness. I watched the whole thing. Four guys from Silsbee were conversing with a HJ fan. The lady asked Jordan if he thought they could be Yates. He said that he did because he feels like that can run with them and  he felt that they have a deeper bench then HJ. All 12 or 15 players from Yates starting taunting the players from Silsbee. Jordan laughed and that big guy with the mohawk started to approach him. The Yates coach was standing with his players and allowed this to happen.  (He was actually laughing when they hurled insults at the players from Silsbee, SMH) The HJ fan told the kids from Silsbee to leave and they complied. I have lost all respect for the Yates team and coaching staff. In my opinion Yates is good if you like a run and gun team who has alot of great athletes. I thought they were very frustrating to watch as a basketball purist. They are not fundamentally sound, they dont run an offense, they can't shoot from the outside. Their big men cant even hit mid range jumpers which is detrimental, because in college at 6'7 they will post likely play the forward position. All they want to do is dunk. I never thought I would root for Silsbee in any game, but I hope they beat Yates, :D

I'm glad we agree to disagree.  I was there also and your facts are not completely accurate.  Which Coach are you saying was standing there with these players and pretty much approved of what you said happened?  Can you describe which one this was?  Our principal and the HISD officers who were present were handling the situation to see if anything further needed to happen.  We would love to pass that information along.  I'm glad to know that a single strange fan from HJ was able to merely say move along and the boys from Silsbee simply shuffled along.  We respect your sound skills assessment of our team, you did a great job, maybe you should have passed that information along to the HJ coaches and the outcome would have been in their favor.

I'm sorry, you don't approve of our particular style of play.  Now, if you think that we're not capable of and don't already have the skills needed to compete against a team who plays the slow tempo, 4 corners, set it up (in other words the ability to run plays) we can, we have and we do.  We have played several teams we had to play that way.  But in the end, we control the tempo of the game, we will play our game, not theirs.  But I'm sure a basketball purist like yourself understands that.  Yes, dunking is a tool in our tool bag, are we ashamed of it, NOT AT ALL!! BTW, we got maybe 30 points from the dunks, how do you account for the remaining 89?  Maybe you should encourage your teams to add a few more tools to their current toolbox and maybe things will work out in their favor.  I'm sure If I asked you what about the team you respected prior to the other night, it would take you a moment to gather your thoughts. You can't please everyone and we know this.  I'm sure Yates is not the first group of people, participating in a sport who's guilty of trash talking and I doubt highly they will be the last.

After the Silsbee and Kashmere game, ALL of their players along with and adult (can't say it was a coach or not, so I'm not going too), came up the steps and started hurling remarks at our fans along with messages that they wanted Yates and to tell our boys what was going to go down. We didn't run down the stairs or any of the foolishness that should have went along with it.  We weren't offended either.  It did show us that SILSBEE is ready to play also.  Most athletes and competitors are going too at some point.  So don't wag your finger at our kids as if this is something that you have never witnessed before.  Me personally, I'm glad nothing came of the situation that couldn't be corrected.

So while I respect your opinion, I highly disagree with it. However, love us, like us or hate us, It doesn't matter at all.  We are here in this area and we are here to play.

Whenever Yates has to play a half court game, they lose. You guys are now 3A because you were running from the butt kicking you get from Dallas Kimball. I have a right to my opinion and I will state again that I hate Yates style of play. I dont have any respect for a team or a coaching staff that moves down to a lower level when they are 2 students short of being 4A, because they want a title so badly. You guys knew you could not win state at the 4A level. Again I will state that Yates is great at what they do: run and gun, but that's not the type of ball I like. If others like it, so be it. It's great, but I dont see how you guys can talk badly about HJ when they had a 5 man rotation compared to your 12. Under those circumstances we are very proud of the fact that the players kept the score close for 3 quarters. Things got out of hand when our only legitimate big man fouled out. 8)

The Silsbee players and fans were probably hurling insults after the game, because all of Yates players most likely wouldve jumped the 4 players that attended the game if the HJ fan and the cops had not intervened. 12 against 4. Wow, talking about a mismatch. I almost felt like I had to fight to help those 4 kids. I probably wouldve gotten knocked out, but I had 26 male cousins at the game so things wouldve gotten ugly really quick, but I am more classy then that  ;)

The advantage for Yates in this game is simple. Your school recruits basketball players from all over the world. Our kids are honestly from a very small town. BUT we will not let that scare us, our kids will compete with y'all. Good luck buddy

Yates is in 3A because their enrollment numbers put them there. Just that simple.

I do know that HISD decided to not let their schools opt up a classification like they have been doing the last several years. But Yates admins actually thought their numbers would still keep them 4A and that is why they did not check the box to opt up.

It is what it is.

I fully expect Yates to be back to 4A next realignment.

EVERYONE has fans that say inappropriate things....I've sat next to Yates fans and their confident in their team. Yes they talk trash I would too if my team was good...but they don't take it any further than that. They are very polite they just love their Yates bball that's all...You act like Silsbee isnt as bad Yates fans nor the players or even worse...I coached in the summer league and Silsbee players tried to fight Ozen players after the game....so kill that let the kids compete and settle it on the court..you adults need to fall back cause your the ones fueling this nonsense....

Wow!! Run from Dallas Kimball? Not at all.  We played Dallas Kimball 12/15/13 and we won 97 to 74, there's no need to run from anyone.  We never said you were not allowed your opinion, we just respectfully disagree with it.  Your opinion is just what it is, an opinion.  But it's yours.  We knew we would not win a title in 4A is what you said, right?  In the last 4 years, in Class 4A we have won 2 state titles (Back to Back), and we have made it to the State game 3 out of the 4.  We're ok with that.  We're not bitter and most definitely not desperate for a title.  What team do you know doesn't want to win the top prize?  If a team is ok with being sub-par, that's a shame.  I would hope every athlete strives to be the best, and yes, win a state title.  Everyone, just like yourself is entitled to their opinion of HJ, just like you have about Yates.  So I know you are ok with that too.  As a team, we have no reason to talk down on HJ, we have moved on to the next one.  Allow me to say this, it's not our problem if the coach only rotated 5 guys.  Did you feel like that way when HJ played Coldsping? I doubt it.  Coldspring didn't rotate majority of their guys either, they were on the bench in full uniform jackets.  That's the coaches problem, not ours.  If your legitimate big man fouled out, once again, not our problem.  The coach should have made an adjustment to make up for it.  That's what coaches do. Maybe he should have tried the run and gun, I don't know.  We come to play 4 quarters, not 3.  We will not feel bad for playing all 4 either.  That's a problem, you can't play 3 quarters and expect to win anything.  I hope that's not what is taught over at HJ.  BTW, we are a very young team.  So we will be around.

You played Kimball 12/13, really how is that possible? We just started 2013. Too bad you could not beat them in the state finals last year. I cant believe that you guys actually encourage the players to behave in the way they do. They are dirty players. I felt sorry for #12 on HJ's team. They were holding his shirt, holding his arm, made him bleed. Everytime he touched the ball, 3 players coverged on him and he still scored 22 pts.
