Internet rumor Sunbelt to add 2 schools in next 10 days.

Sun Belt likely to expand by 2 over next 10 days w/ top candidate pool: Georgia Southern, Appalachian St, Jacksonville St, NMSU

Jax st and App st are not any of the 2.  I'm thinking NMSU, Idaho, GSU, and Lamar are top 4 candidates.

My guess would be Ark State, WKU(good basketball), or ULL.

That's what I thought the response referred to.  Had read rumors of the three working to leave the SBC on the CSNBBS Sun Belt Conference forum.  Didn't know if there was any validity to the rumors.  Just hope the Sun Belt doesn't go the way of the WAC.  I hope that conference is more proactive in its efforts to reload than the WAC was.

ULL and Arkansas State have had a pretty interesting football route along with some others in their D-IA / DI-FBS years playing as independents as well as football members of the Big West Conference, and then joining their other sports in the Sun Belt.

Lamar WILL NOT be in this expansion to the SBC.  Guaranteed!!!
No, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.  LU has not been in contact, or if they have.....nobody in the athletic department knows about it.
I am a rocket scientist....seriously.

But anyway, someone in another thread, claiming to be in the know, says Lamar is in contact with the SBC.
Which is it?

I got an honest question and don't answer like an LU Homer, where is the WOW factor for the press and current members in the SBC in bringing back a former member that didn't WOW you last time before they jumped ship for smaller pastures?
There is none. They hate Lamar. Some has asked moderators to delete any thread or post about Lamar to the SBC. All sweeter when LU get a FBS invite.

Some say Tulsa, UTEP, and Rice could leave CUSA. This could open the door for Lamar to CUSA if the CSN deal is real.
Ark State, ULL, and/or WKU will go to the CUSA over LU, but that probably means the Sun Belt will ask Lamar to join.  When Lamar joins the Sun Belt will probably be mostly recent FCS move ups.
Cola you always make the same mistake in your logic. Lamar by itself does not get the CUSA invite over Ark st, ULL, or WK. HOWEVER, If Rice leaves CUSA and there is a tv deal between Comcast and Lamar, Lamar would be in the Houston market. CUSA wants in the Houston market tv's. Lamar could also agree to play a few big names schools in Houston for CUSA. Therefore, Lamar/Comcast/Houston is greater than Jonesboro, Lafayette, and Bowling Green.

Besides, the Sun Belt has already brought back a former member.  Georgia State returns as a conference member next year.

May not have WOWed anyone, but we did have some championships while there.

Baseball - 2  (one more in our relatively short time than 5 longer time members)
Womens Basketball - 1 (vacated by NCAA due to recruiting violations)
Womens Golf - 4
Womens Tennis - 1

Remember, football didn't start in the Sun Belt until after we left and we weren't playing football during those years.  Basketball and Baseball were the main sports back then.  We were very competitive in baseball.

Our record in basketball, though not stellar, was comparable to many of the conference members.  Even so, the worst years were the Mike Newell years recovering from the Tony Branch era and the Grey Giovanine years recovering from the turmoil during and following Mike Newell's resignation.  It's not like we got blown out in every game we played.  We left the conference as a conference basketball tournament semi-finalist.

Right now I think SHSU gets the nod over Lamar. I am ready for that MWC invite we were told that was going to happen.
Stop using cola's logic... ;D  Just because SHSU has 2 good football years does not mean they are going FBS. SHSU is lacking in community size. They won't go FBS until they resolve that issue.

That's what I recall also.

I think a lot of people have selective memories.  One of the things I've seen on the Sun Belt Board is "lack of support".  We were in the top three in basketball attendance several of the years with average attendance picking up again our last year.  We were never anywhere close to the bottom in attendance in any year.

Below are the max attendance numbers for each year.  Average attendance ranged from a low of 2,294 in Giovanine's first year to 4,442 in our last year in the conference.  Numbers are from the 2012-2013 Men's Basketball Info Guide on Lamar's athletics site.

1991-1992  5,642
1992-1993  8,033
1993-1994  3,876  (Throw that one out.  :)  )
1994-1995  4,142
1995-1996  8,454
1996-1997  5,089
1997-1998  7,584
