Who is Groveton?
Alma Mater of Rodney Thomas, one of the greatest high school running backs the state of Texas ever produced.
I watched him play against Schulenburg in the Astrodome back in the late 80's or early 90's.

3700 YDS rushing in 1990....8400+ for his career.....truly one of the greatest.
Trust me, I know how great he was. Hull-Daisetta played against Groveton and Rodney Thomas in the playoffs in 1991. Thomas killed us !! Later he went on to star at Texas A@M and then with the Houston Oilers.

If you are going by percentage and not total wins, well then I'd like to see how Hebert stacks up. They haven't been around for a while ya know ???
Hebert would move to the top of the list, 135-29-7, a .810 winning percentage.

I remember Coach Walkoviak talking to me about Hebert and all of the trouble they gave Jasper back in the late 70's and early 80's when only one team from the old 9-4A juggernaut would make the playoffs. Those were some of the best Bulldog teams ever and we couldn't seem to get past those guys...

I played against Hebert in the playoffs back in '81. Longest, most painful butt kicking I've ever taken in my life. They must've had 100 players on the sidelines and just kept rotating them in. We (Channelview) had an all-state stud RB ( Glen Langford-UT ) who they shut down. Down 7-3 at the half, we were already out of gas. Lost 29-3, if I remember correctly.....been awhile. ;D Playing SS, I squared up on Hebert's QB ( I think it was Davis, who went on to UH ) while he danced in the endzone, I pulled grass out of my helmet.  ::) ::)

Rock T must had made quite an impression on you 55. Did you go head to head with him?
No Sir. My uncle was a stud linebacker in 1991 for H-D. #44 they called him the blonde bomber. He went head up with Rodney Thomas all night. My uncle picked off a swing pass intended for Rodney Thomas, as my uncle headed for the endzone Thomas slipped and fell down and still caught my Uncle from behind. What an athlete he was !! I myself played for H-D in the mid 90's, I also played groveton in the playoffs. The Horace boys were studs on those Groveton teams I played.

Alot of great players came out of Groveton.

They currently have a former player Lane Johnson playing TE for Oklahoma. He was their QB in high school.

I played against him a couple of years ago.  He was pretty large and in charge lol.  About 6'7, and a cannon for an arm....
