Congrats to Brenham and Friendswood

From the Houston Chronicle these are huge accompishment by both schools! In 5A The Woodland won both cups for 5A.

For The Brenham high school programs, those three words rang true during the 2009-10 sports season.

By winning throughout the fall, winter and spring months, the Cubs shined brightest in across-the-board athletic achievement to claim the 2009-10 Chronicle Cup awards.

Brenham is a first-time winner, taking the 4A crown with 118.5 points — just two more than runner-up Kingwood Park.

Brenham had a banner year from its team sports programs. In the fall, the football and volleyball teams made runs to their respective state championship games before falling in the finals.

But in the spring, the baseball team closed the deal on its seventh state baseball championship.

"It was great for our school, great for our town and great for the coaches, too, all the way across," Brenham football coach and athletic director Glen West said. "I think we all fed off of each other."

The Cubs finished third in the 4A Lone Star Cup standings. Friendswood won the Lone Star Cup, which also recognizes academic performance, earlier this week.

For the second straight year, Friendswood stood tallest in the University Interscholastic League.

The school was named the UIL’s Class 4A Lone Star Cup winners for the 2009-10 school year.

The Lone Star Cup recognizes high schools based on their overall team achievement in athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup.

Friendswood had another strong year athletically, but the Mustangs’ academic performance gave them the final boost needed to win their second Cup. Were all proud of the kids and hopefully, we can continue the success next year.

Football and Volleyball- remember what our baseball team just did...lost the year before and came out hungry this year and won it all.  You can do the same thing next year.  Our football team never gave up, from being an underdog to then undefeated and #5 PNG, to back to back second half come backs against #10 Angleton after being down 21-0 at the half and 17-0 in the fourth quarter to 08' region 3 champ, Dayton.  Volleyball won what is arguably the toughest district in the state, topped off by upseting Friendswood in the regional championship.

Basketball and Softball- great seasons with deep playoff runs.  Basketball saw 2 teams from our district in the regional semis before we were eliminated by La Marque.  Softball battled through a fierce district in order to make their playoff run.

Soccer- guys and girls both made deep playoff runs and both lost by just a goal.  (the boys in extra time)

Baseball- we entered the season as the #1 team in the state and ended the season the #1 team in the state.  Great job, ending the 22 year drought and bringing the championship back home to "the baseball capital of Texas"  This team broke all kinds of records this year...most notably 15 tournament appearances and 7 state titles.

*Congrats to Friendswood and The Woodlands also
