Jalali hits a grand slam for his 7th dinger of the year. He's just a sophomore, he could set some PNG records by the time he graduates. They were trying to throw a lot of off speed today and he hit a no doubter, a big bomb. Hester got that hr and then struck out the next 2 or 3 times. I believe that he let his temper get the best of him today. He is a wonderful talent but you can't start yelling at your teammates when things don't always go right. Great job Indians!

Port Arthur News

Vidor—The Vidor Pirates Trea Hester hit a two-run homer in the first inning and held the Port Neches-Groves Indians to zeros until the fourth inning.

That’s when Hester great night turned into PNG’s wonderful night. Trailing 2-0 going into the fourth, the Tribe scored three runs that inning and four in the fifth and sixth innings en route to their 11-3 victory over the Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

Hester was not the only pitcher to homer, either.

Jerin Spikes, who tossed five innings to get the win, hit a solo shot in the fifth inning. PN-G also had a grand slam from sophomore centerfielder Amir Jalai, who also homered in Tuesday’s 10-0 win over Livingston.

The Indians piled up 11 hits to Vidor’s six. Vidor also committed three errors, which turned into five unearned runs. The Tribe was lead by Zach Rhame, who had two singles and a double. Austin Stone finished with a single and double, and Chris Sweetenham had a pair of singles.

With the win, PNG is now 7-8 overall and 3-1 in District 20-4A, LCM, Vidor, PNG and Nederland all at the top going into next week’s competition.

The Indians have won three in a row and four out of their last five and will host Lumberton on Tuesday.

Good game.  Wheels fell off for Vidor.  Not the usual game for them.  They will regroup and play well Tuesday at LCM.  Coach Green will have the team ready to go.  Lot of young players on this team and this might have been a gut check for them.

I thought PNG showed some maturity when they got down 2-0 they didn't panic. They just kept taking their hacks until good things started happening. The Indians play soild defense. The outfield does a good job of getting the ball in and holding runners from getting that extra base. And the catcher blocks a lot of stuff that would get away from most.

Hats off to PN-G for not getting down on themselves after getting down early against a good pitcher. They could of threw their hats in the ring and gave up but didn't. they stuck together and played very well. As for Vidor I think their fielding hurt them the worst. a couple of small pop ups missed and then Hester tried to blow it by the big guns and that's when the great HRs came. I watched both of them hits leave the bat from right behind homeplate and as others have put it they were no doubters. I do not believe that PN-G got the best effort from Vidor but I do believe PN-G is a good solid strong team that is nothing to be overlooked. They are a strong team. Good luck to them the rest of the way. C'mon Pirates get it together and shake this one off. There is still a lot of baseball to play!!

Come on guys.  We had one bad game.  We are still tied for first in district.  Have the best pitching staff in district IMO. If I am not mistaken we have the best overall record of anyone in the district.  I still think we are the favorites, but we should at least take second.

Well good thing for the Pirates is if they do lay an egg this week you at least get another crack against these teams later in the season.
