HF vs. Barbers Hill Scrimmage Thread

Recommended Posts

I left top of the 7th and BH was up 13 to 0.  The horns had an off night tonight with a lot of dropped balls and the pitching really struggled.

BH pitching was very good tonight.  A few Pro-Scouts in the stands watching the game.  Ross Hales was again lights out, as was Kendall Thamn and Johnathan Kelly.  Sorry I missed everyone else.  Nice to see some hitting tonight and especially the power shots.  #44 took one deep from the right side of the plate that was 360 plus and Jake Ponder spanked one over the right field fence.  Next at bat #44 crushes one through the gap from the left side (switch hitter).

Good luck Horns this year.  Nice to meet you Adminbabe.

Sampere, Bellows, McFarland, Thamm, Kelly, Hales, Silva in 3 days, Harrington, Carnahan does it ever end.

Heck, I seen bh89-2 and eagle07 warming up. HF will be fine, once someone throws under 85. The Eagles have a fine club.

HF will strugle a little bit this year.Tuff District-He has to learn to keep the Dads out of the mix.He knows BB.If they would let him put kids where they belong instead of where dad wants, they will be a lot better. The program #'s or down and enrollment is up,. 3 or 4 years back they had 3 teams, now two.Last year HF only had 2 fresh. play baseball there is a problem somewhere.

I read your post before it was edited and just did not get a chance to respond until today.

High school athletic programs take over guidance of the kids when they show up for try outs in the 9th grade.  They take the kids that are handed off to them by little league coaches who are parents.  If only two were handed off to the high school coach it sounds like a parent problem to me.  It is a well known fact among area coaches that HF has one of the best head coaches around.  I also promise you this, no dad in HF has any influence on where that coach puts his kids.  He puts his kids where they need to be to win.  Then some dad like you, whose kid is not where he thinks he should be, writes on a message board that the coach is being influenced by other dads.  That is not the case, he is being influenced by the fact that your son is not as good as the other kid.  My advice is move to a lower classification school so Johnny can play shortstop there.

Be careful though. he might still be standing (or sitting) in the same spot when you get there.  I have seen that before.

roc

20 excuses I have heard that dads gave others for why Johnny is not playing the spot he thinks he should: (I could list 100)

"The only reason the other kid is playing is that"

1) Dads tell the coach where to play the kids.  (get in line and tell him if this is true) but it is not

2) His mom works at the school (get a job at the school) I bet it does not help

3) His mom is good looking (I don't know what to tell you there)

4) His dad buys an ad in the program (buy an ad that says Johnny should play shortstop)

5) The coach likes football players (sign him up)

6) The coach does not like football players

7) The coach only likes big kids

8  The coach only likes little kids

9) The coach only likes fast kids (run fast)

10) The coach knows his dad (socialize)

11) The coach only likes wealthy kids (work some overtime)

12) The coach is a poor judge of talent (put a bug in the assistants ear)

13) The coach only likes left handers (switch hit)

14) The coach only likes black kids

15) The coach only likes hispanic kids

16) The coach only likes white kids

17) The coach only likes asian kids

18) The kid's parent is on the school board

19) The kid's parent is in the booster club

20) The coach is kin to him

This is all a bunch a hogwash!

The fact is, you can take any starter on any team, and choose an attribute and say that is why the coach plays him.  Another fact is that you can bet that it is the total package that the kid brings to the table that gets him into the lineup.  Sometimes it is sorry parents that are part of a kid's total package that leads to a decision by the coach to go with someone else.

Let me tell you who the coach does like:

The left or right handed kid of any race, that runs well, makes good grades, and can help his team win.

I stated that the coach knows the game and he does, The program #'s are down are a parent thing are you kidding me,why did'nt more kids come out? From what I understand  If the football players #'s are down it is the coaches fault and he gets fired so that is a great analogy on your part.A coach is only as smart as how he can communicate with his players. If he can not get his message across to his players his message is mute. A retired high-school would not have printer such crap, It is obvious that you do not have a clue so I will consider the source. There is a bigger problem, see the big picture.

Hey Coop, this use to be such a positive thing for our community, some of these post are getting to be all negative. I deleted my post on this subject. I hate that our kids have to read what people post here. And they wonder why our programs fall off some. If these guys are parents common sense should tell them positive is way better than all this negative. I couldnt wait for baseball season to start, and alot of other people on here. Go Horns

I stated that the coach knows the game and he does, but if you don't think that suck @$$ dads don't have an influence you are in a dream world. You have helped me see the bigger picture.  Now we have a starters dad at home that thinks he is smarter than the coach.  His son comes home from school every day and has to hear how dumb the coach is from his dad that he loves.  Eventually he believes it and loses confidence in anything his coach tells him.  His dad goes around the community telling everyone how dumb the coach is and they believe him because he is the dad of a a good high school player.  They decide not to play high school baseball for the dumb coach and only two 9th graders show up to tryouts.

There is an old saying in sports.  "You are either with us, or you are against us".  It is obvious what you are to the HF Baseball Program.  A thorn in their side.  Do you think writing this stuff for the public to read about your sons team is helping them win ball  games?  The answer is no.

I do not live in a dream world.  I live in a world where parents like you tear apart athletic teams every year.

PS I would appreciate it if you would not call me an idiot.

Landry is a helluva good coach...period.  One day, a bigger school and/or better job will snap him up and then HF will realize what they lost.  Put it this way...give him the talent BC has had the past 3 or 4 years and there would be a state trophy or two there...

Thats what I'm talking about Coop. Lets keep up the good work on SETXSPORTS and pump up this areas ball players. We have alot of talent and good coaches,I'm excited about this year and 21-3a should be some great games again this year. No matter what has been said on this thread, the majority of us or positive and excited about baseball this year. And we are gonna have most of the starting line up next year also. So I'm really excited about the next two years,we're excited about our coach too. We stand behind all our teams here in the Golden Triangle,it makes us all look good. Positive,Positive,Positive.

YES what he said, in HFs case I'll be willing to bet they have 3-4 that play summer ball compared to some schools that have 3-4 that DONT play.

Since us BH fans don't get to see a lot of the Golden Triangle teams, how do you HF fans, who went to the scrimmage, think BH looked comparitively?  I saw LCM play last year at UH, but that is about it after we went to 4A.  Bridge City always had a good club when we played them.

Take out that 91 on the gun the Met's scout had on Hales, Nederland and BH's pitching was about the same. The wind was blowing in at Nederland at 20 mph plus so the ball didn't carry as well as at Barbers Hill.

Since HF didn't put the ball in play that much against Ned or BH, hard to gauge the defense.
