1. Example from personal experience: I once tried to remove a kid on one of my teams for using drugs. (failed a drug test) My athletic director told me that I could not remove him from the team due to athletic handbook and school policy. FYI BUT I handled it in my own way and the result that I originally seeked came to fruition.

The new age answer is to have the coach call in the game.  The coach has done his job which includes, bus duty at 7, facutly meeting at 7:30, taught 8 math classes and an athletic period, graded and recroded two hundred daily grades and tests, had two parent confrences, reviewed the scouting report, drove the bus to the game safely, coached his team to victory, drove the team home safely, monitored the locker room, recorded the statistics, waited for the kids to be picked up, locked up the school, returned the bus to the lot,  and is in hurry to get home to catch a glimpse of his/her family prior to bedtime. That lazy SOB! The reporter that needs the scoop to "do his job" should be proactive and go to work at this point.  Call and ask the coach about the game.  If the game is not covered in the paper and the reporter did not even attempt to call and get the scoop that he needed to do his job, I ask the question, who got their job done on this day?  The game was played, but there is no newspaper article. Analogy:  If a parent did not pick up a player from the school at midnight following the game, is it ok for the coach just to do nothing and leave him there alone?  Or do you think he might be proactive and make a phone call or even drive him home in order to succesfully complete his job on this day?
In older days I would agree but these days how many head coaches actually teach a class or 2 much less 8. I never see a head coach drive a bus anymore either.....except in the other sports (golf, tennis etc...)
OK Eagle11 4 classes and he rode the bus.  His job still got done and the story is still not written and I left out the parent conference he had after the game. No more from me on this.  I was just trying to share a different perspective with you guys.

4. In 4A, IMO Ozen finishing at 4-10 in district is not a surprise worth mentioning.  Them beating Nederland is however an accomplishment worth mentioning, which would also put the Bulldogs in the disappointment category on the heels of some district championship talk early. I think Lumberton and Vidor felt like they should have made a better showing this year.  I also think Livingston has been a pleasant surprise along with PNG's running of the table. In 3A, HF has to be the team that would be considered the underacheiver and probably WOS somewhat of an overachiever just a few runs short of being in the thick of things.  BC Silsbee OF about where we all thought they would be. In 5A, I think everybody came out about where they thought they would if westbrook cna get in. Someone already wrote about Kelly feeling like they should have been able to get into the post season. I think up north Jasper might be feeling like they should have been able to finish a little higher in the district.

If he was enrolled last school year, one would think he would be eligible to play this school year. Does anybody know if he played in the game against Ozen?
No, he did not. I do not understand why he is not eligible. I would have thought when he enrolled in the spring, his eligibility would have been discussed then not at the beginning of this school year.
It's a technicality...WOS head coach did not release him...when the Kelly Rb transferred(from WB last year) I remember the WB staff commenting on that...if they(W.O in this case) do not release him and acknowledge the transfer was NOT for athletic purposes...he WOULD  be eligible......because he was not signed off on...UIL considers him ineligible...
I am fairly certain that Coach Hooks would have signed his release.  If a kid does not want to be part of your team, then sign his release and let him go flourish and grow as a person elsewhere.  That is just my opinion.  WOS has had more move ins than any other team in the golden triangle over the last quarter century.  Its kind of ironic that they would be the reason that this kid could not be released to play. Poor judgement I think, especially since the player is not even a threat to the success of WOS.  Its not like the kid got mad and moved to Nederalnd, Freindswood, or to a team in their 3A district.  The UIL needs to let thie kid play.
6. Good luck to the cardinals.  This is a tough one.  We must play well.
7. These local schools were very successful in basbeall long before the local hitting instructor was invented.
8. Coach Price is what you would get if you could mail order a coach and pick what kind of man you want working with your kids.

11. Prime example of parents who know absolutley nothing over stepping their bounds. Baseballdream writes "A parent could have coached this team to 50/50 baseball". Not even a term used in sports.  A kid listening to this baseball savy parent would see right through his ignorance in the first practice. Its called .500 baseball.  When coaching the outfield you could teach them to round "up" the ball to get a good angle for the throw. I bet you  could really give the "referee" the business.    You might also throw in "keep your chin down" Now your coachin!  "keep your eye on the ball"  That will get'em to 50/50 ball!  "Stay back"  Now we're talkin!  "Swing level"  District championship here we come!  How about this one? "Get in front of it". You BH parents are so smart that after spending the summer and fall with you, the kids should show up for school ball ready for the coach to do two things.  Write nine names on a sheet of paper and make hotel reservations in Round Rock. And when replying don't forget to "use two hands"!
12. My prediction is Brenham 10-1.  Just too strong for Crosby.  They flipped Brenham for one game for a reason.  They are rolling the dice to try and put together a perfect seven innings.  It happens in baseball.  The team that plays best on game day wins. I am not downing Crosby, (I am touting Brenham) but Brenham gets the check mark in every aspect of the game.  1) Playing basically at home.  (summer and fall lands them in Langham Creek) 2) Brenham tradition 3) Coach with over 500 wins 4) they are better at all nine positions 5) team speed 6) more power 7) higher team batting average (don't know Crosby's but I bet it is not higher than .390 8) strength of schedule I may be wrong.  I have only kept up from afar after seeing both teams play early.  Tried, but can't think of any category that Crosby would receive the check mark? Huge underdog!
13.
Magnolia in 2.  I've seen both teams against Brenham this year....
FROM LAST WEEK Re: Kingwood Park vs LCM set / comments « Reply #27 on: May 03, 2010, 08:38:16 AM » Quote   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have see them both play.......KP wins in two..... better hitting, pitching, and D... It's just little old me... Underdog: Underdog
14. Magnolia has two pitchers out.  Two of their top three pitchers are unavailable due to injury. LCM is healthy and looks to be getting better and gaining momentum.  I am going to take the Bears in another upset.  I think they win it in a third game nail biter.
15. Lucky for you!  But then again, the man you are starting the convesation about was around for those old days.
16. Back in the old days if a grown man was going around town starting the conversation about how another grown man should be fired, the man doing the talking around town better have his head on a swivel due to the potential azz whippin he was fixin to take. I am just sayin....
17. I think heads should roll. Lets start with eagle99.  You are fired from being a fan.  You are with us or you are against us.  "Us" includes the coach so you are fired. Now for your other job.  The work day is not over and you are charged with personal use of the internet.  Therefore you are once again fired. The coach with 100's of wins and numerous playoff appearances to his credit is spared.  He also gets an award for being a positive influence on the young people he comes in contact with. Congrats Coach.  Keep up the good work and congrats on almost taking a team (that in most years at your school would have made up the majority of your jv team) to the playoffs.

19. Posting your players stats is like handing over one piece of the scouting report your opponents are trying to put together on your team.
20. Tie breakers are placed in district rules so you don't have to play a game to determine seeding. Hence having "no tie breaker" on the books means you must play it out to determine seeding, or better yet, to determine who goes to the playoffs if it is for fourth place.
21. You guys keep using the words "tie breakers".  There are no tie breakers in 20-4A Baseball.  If two teams are 11-3 then two teams are 11-3.  Even if one team beat the other twice, they are still both 11-3 and will have a coin flip, or a playoff, or a verball agreement to take a spot in the bracket.  If three teams are 11-3, then three teams are 11-3.  They will have a playoff, with one team drawing a bye in the play in bracket. (this bye part I am only 99% sure of) No head to head No most runs scored None of that stuff at all and that is the way it should be IMO
22. Yes that is three straight, but we will bounce back.
23. I recall a kid in Orange that was timed by his hs coach at 4.3 He went to a combine and ran a 4.6 The coach timed the forty about as good as he coached football.
24. I'll take a shot. BC had runner at 1st and 3rd 1 out. Ball hit to third and the runner went home on contact and was gunned at the plate. BC had Kellogg on 2nd with 2 outs. Ball hit to LF between SS and 3rd, with Kellogg's speed only perfect throw gets him. Kellog out at plate. BC has runner at 2nd with 2 outs. Ball hit between 1st and 2nd , only perfect throw gets him. Out at plate. BC has runner at 3rd 1 out. Left handed pitcher working out of the windup with BC's best bunter at the plate, squeeze called, missed, out at plate. Your first situation described is not a coaching decision. The kid chose to go on a ball to the corner with corners playing up. The second and third situations described are "no brainers". Runner on second with two outs in the playoffs you send him home on a base hit to the outfield. Good coaching decision IMO. The squeeze was also a good gutsy call by the coach. (especially with good bunter up and a pitcher that has struck out a bunch on the year) I wish he would have gotten it down and fair.
