  1. The answer to this might take us back to a thread we already had. Did the kid miss the offseason training that the other kids went through? Does your coach have this policy? The one where they announce to all players, "if you don't participate in the offseason workouts, you cannot play in the fall". I would think that if the AEP made him miss forty grueling workouts that the other kids went though, that he took himself out of the running to participate on the team. ROC
  2. Playing a tournament in Georgia in front of scouts from Georgia and others states in that area will be great if you want to go to college in Georgia or other states in that area. Most se texas players do not want to go that far from home. My guess is that if you listed the top ten schools you would like to play for none would be in Georgia or over seven hours form home.
  3. You need to help yourself and find a way to make it to these tryouts. They are happening everyday. I counted eight have taken place since this thread started. The total number of college coaches listed at those tryouts were 14 if all advertised hosts showed up. The only guys that they ever sign from these tryouts are more often than not pitchers anyway. My advice to you is pick the top five schools you would like to play at and call them. Some might tell you they are full so you don't waste a trip there. Those that sound interested you should find out tryout date and attend. You might need to try more than your top five to better you chances. The fact is that if you want to play bad enough and you are willing to go out and find them, instead of waiting on them to come to you, then there is a place out there for you.
  4. The two D-1 coaches you mentioned were at the 1A2A3A game to see if there were any diamonds in the rough that were over looked. They stayed for game two to watch the couple of kids they had already signed. Every kid in game two had already been picked up by somebody. Also there was the new coach at Texarkana Junior College.
  5. There is no such thing as calling off the dogs in the state title game. Anything can happen and you cannot ever let up.
  6. Kosmo I am not sure that your coat tail theory holds true. BC rode the arm of Angelle to the playoffs right? MLB drafted three year BC pitcher Dan Fletcher (90+) mph and he never played in one high school playoff game. The Fletcher, Blacksher, Knight, Hayes, Sanders groups never came close to sniffing the regional finals, much less the state tournament. I ask Kosmo, Could your kid turn in a lineup and win with them? Their coat tails must not have been long enough. And don't tell me that they did not have a supporting cast because those teams were very talented. There is something called over coaching. It is saying something simply so that you are saying something. It is coaching when the best thing to have said was nothing. Coach Bryant coaches only when it is beneficial to make a change. Coach Bryant does not coach for the crowd which I have witnessed by numerous coaches over the years. They want you to know just how much they know. They also want to let you know that every mistake that the team makes is something that they have worked with them on. This distances them from the failure. There could be something that a player does a little wrong, but the time to change it might not be during a game, or even during a season for that matter, especially in the playoffs. Trying to do it the "right" way may make him less successful at doing it at all and could possibly take this kid out of contention for even being on the field. The coach must decide whether to make a technique change, then decide at what point in time to make the change that will be most beneficial to the team. He might even decide that the player and the team will be more successful with the player sticking with the unorthodox technique. This is what you call not coaching. I call it leaving them alone so they have a better chance to succeed. I call it trying to win. Take away about fifteen errors made in three games by the Cards and Coach Bryant would be coaching or “not coaching as you put it†in Round Rock Texas tonight for the gold. Just trying to give you a perspective from the other side of the fence. roc This is just me, but if I were Coach Bryant, I would use my "poor interpersonal skills" to tell you people to stick it where the sun does'nt shine, and I would take my ability to take baseball teams further than expected, elsewhere.
  7. Yes red1 School board members kids and those fellows with good looking moms. Then every now and again the good looking mom on the school board. Her kid would be a shoe in. and yes again red1, we are joking.
  8. Make no mistake MIF04 that the teams in 22-4A are not as strong as they traditionaly have been. Lets look at the four teams that are still in the race. LCM is good, but not as strong as they have been most years. PNG is good, but not as strong as they have been most years. Nederland is good, but not even close to the Nederland teams of old. Vidor has their best team in years, which puts them in the race with the teams that are down a little.
  9. I agree jbseballfan. Some people are just down right sorry. Mike O, go read the thread that has the teams listed that are going to the playoffs. LCM and PNG are on there. You are not yet at this point. Piece of advice. Lay low (and quiet) until you get in. Another piece of advice. Lay low and quiet even if you do. Another piece of advice. Lay low and quiet even if you do not. Here is a stat for you. Lose either of your next two games and your best team in thirty years stays home. These are kids. It is about the kids. From the looks of your post MikeO, you are not about the kids.
  10. I think Ozen might be able to upset Vidor at this point. Vidor has had to play Friday, Saturday, Monday, and now Tuesday. Not to mention that Monday's game was a trip to Dayton and a midnight return home. Good luck to both teams.
  11. One player or the other gives the team the best chance to win. The coach might not be able to decide right away so he might need to rotate them until he can tell which guy gives his team the best chance to win.
  12. Central was up 5-1 and game was called. They will start 0-0 tomorrow. or maybe not if it rains.
  13. There is no rule against them doing that, nor is it unethical as long as those players stay within the game limits. (17 games plus three tournaments) or (19 games plus two tournaments) or (21 games plus one tournament) or just 23 games If they "just dressed out" for the varsity game, that does not necessarily mean that they are varsity players, it might mean they are jv players that dressed out for a varsity game. Then it its off to the jv game to play. The part about taking someones jersey off of their back is very questionable though. If it were my son, I would tell him to tell the other kid that the only way he would play in his jersey would be to take it off of his back.
  14. Silsbee has been very impressive but could be vulnerable in the weeks ahead as their top pitchers have more than twice as many innings pitched as the top pitchers at other schools in that district, for example BC.
  15. It is illegal even if the catcher has the ball, unless he has the plate 100% blocked.
  16. Deweyville has been bad, but they have a new field that will be ready next season. I think the winner of the worst field award is a toss up. The tie goes to Ozen and Central. Both surfaces are unsafe to play on. The scoreboard in centerfield at Ozen should be moved before a hitter loses a pitch in the lights and does not turn his head. Many fields are built with a tall green background so that the hitter can better see the ball coming out of the pitchers hand. Not OzenThe more innings you play, the more lights go on. It is something that BISD should fix immediatley to protect their student athletes from possible serious injury.
  17. Bash him if you want, but grandslam is 100% correct in my opinion. 50+ pitches Saturday and then playing ss 120+ pitches Monday 20+ pitches Tuesday and then playing shortstop 100+ possibly if he starts Friday which it was written he will 300 a week plus throwing across the diamond will shorten a career, but maybe he is not a prospect and this is his last year to play any ball.
  18. From what I can tell by reading about the game I like the coaches attempt to make something happen. I am assuming that when someone wrote that the squeeze was with one or no outs that it was actually with one out. I don't think the coach tried to squeeze with no outs. It sounds like they had already stranded a lot of runners. It also sounded like the other pitcher had struck out quite a few hitters. The coach gave the kid two strikes to hit the runners in and then in desperation tried a squeeze. There are many other factors that could have come into play when making the bold decision that he made. Maybe the four hole hitter had already struck out two or three times. Maybe the four hole hitter is a good bunter and if he just at minimum fouls the pitch off, it would then be in the hands of the five hole guy. Maybe the five hole hitter was not the guy that he wanted to put his team's success on the line with. I applaud the gutzy call from the Silsbee Coach. So to you caoch, good job at having the guts to do what you thought you had to do to help your kids win. I salute you. ROC
  19. You just made it public that you wasted two thousand four hundred dollars. And thats IF you get $2000 for the unused cage. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!
  20. br49 When you say he won't be able to play varsity which do you mean? A. He will probably not be eligible? or B. He cannot break into an always stout Westbrook varsity lineup?
  21. It could have gone down as such: Second team QB went up on the board. BC, OF, Team A, and Team B put up their QB's. Maybe the stats went in this order OF Team A BC Team B It was obvious that OF should win and he got the votes of Team D and Team E. (One of which is the coach of the first team all dist QB) Two votes for the best stats OF coach saw that Team A's qb's stats are a danger to his kid winning and he votes for BC. (He cannot vote for his own player) One vote for BC Team A's coach saw that OF was the obvious winner and voted for BC. (He cannot vote for his own player) Two votes for BC Team B's coach saw that OF and Team A's stats were better than his kid and voted for BC trying to split the vote. (He cannot vote for his own player) Three votes for BC 3 for BC 2 for OF I know there are more teams in the district, this is just an example. This happens all of the time. When four go up on the board it needs to be cut down to two or three by the coaches whose players are not up there. Then do not allow the coaches of those two or three players on the board to vote at all. This does take more time, but keeps this type of injustice from occuring. In my opinion they should have given two second team QB. My hunch is that the coaches knew they screwed up and knew that they should give two second team QB's but they could not because OF was not the next highest vote getter. He might have been third or tied for second and giving three is going too far.
