With that defense, quarterback, running back and receivers that Carthage had, it would have taken more than coaching. Jmo Correct. Nick Saban wasn’t beating Carthage with that WOS team. Quote

Discipline starts at the top I once heard Coach Hooks cussing Coach Crouch over some play-calling through walkie talkie in the post-Rita showdown with BC when Deion Beasley was a Sr, Little Earl a Jr, and BF had Johnny Dishon. You couldn’t have found a comedy show in the country funnier than the tirade Dan Ray went on. Quote
TxHoops Posted yesterday at 11:50 AM Report Posted yesterday at 11:50 AM I had a local coach (whose team has played both of these teams) tell me a couple of weeks ago that this one may be a showdown of the best two teams in SETX. After getting absolutely punched in the mouth, the team comes out after halftime and proceeds to dismantle the Longhorns. If you know a thing about this sport, you know what it is when a team completely flips the script and dominates in the 2H. Almost always coaching. I’ve said this many times, WOS won’t likely have a coach anywhere near Dan Ray or Cornel the rest of our lives and probably ever. It’s insane how lucky they were to have them back to back. And in my book, CT is probably the 1-1 of Southeast Texas football coaches based on what he did as the DC under Hooks and as the HC when he retired. He was hugely responsible for all of their rings. You just aren’t going to get that again. Kalen DeBoers could be the best coach in the game right now and he still wouldn't be Nick Saban. Hickman is a first time HC that you would expect to make mistakes. Maybe a lot of them. But you also hope that he would steadily improve and take advantage of one of the unique football situations in the State. He obviously has. Consistently. It’s fine to appreciate the past and take pride in all that was accomplished. It’s also high time to move and appreciate what you have now, which is still among the elite programs in the state. AggiesAreWe Posted yesterday at 12:25 PM Report Posted yesterday at 12:25 PM I really believed WO-S was the better team and would prevail in this one. Thanks Mustangs for making me look good. (even though I missed on 10 games this week in pickems. ouch) Congrats to Coach H and his staff on a great 2nd half (28-0). Defense shined and the offense took over on the ground. Coach Trahan with some nice play calls. Great win! Quote

Check another obstacle/milestone off the list. Keep on going. We're not done yet. Great post! Don't tell me, show me... They showed us. The discipline still has to improve, though. But, was better last night. Edge pressure is everything. Especially in the 50 and especially with our athletes. They brought it in the second half and it changed the game. Quote

Maybe it was cleaner aspersions (such as dumb a, etc) and definitely wasn’t vulgar. But the undressing he gave him over the walkies after a few play calls he didn’t love was hilarious. It was a very entertaining game with not a lot of fans there and that was by far the highlight to me. Hooks has hysterical. Quote

The districts today and teams they play talent wise or nothing like those teams of the past. Even La Marque isn't the same with larger pools and more schools. Our general area has remained quite the same. If we're going to pull in the other coaches, I promise they bring more of a discipline that would reflect through performance but that's neither here nor there. The other comment is just ignorant. You like to bring in a certain topic that screams low self esteem and ignorance. By the way, why did they win all of those titles a decade or so ago. Talent plus discipline equals domination. Now that's facts. What is the overall record of the current coach in a much weaker district and being in an actual classification that's correct for size of school compared to the last couple.....? That should settle this wonderful debate. So the change in coaches made the district weaker? It’s the exact same teams in the district for at least the last 15 years, except for shepherd . Yall will say the most ridiculous & patently false ish to justify yall, so when yall don’t like the coach, any success he has is either due to weak competition, extraordinarily great talent on the team, or the other coaches are just letting them win. When it’s the coaches yall worship, they were beating NFL teams and NEVER lost? You don’t even see the contradictions in your own comment. “ The teams they play today talent wise(or , learn word usage) are nothing like the teams of the past “ then the same genius that made that statement, which is you , proceeded to say “ our general area has remained the same” which one is it either there’s no talent left in our local district & we’re only playing WEAK teams, or nothing’s changed , according to you our area has remained the same , and we’re not beating weak teams??? The cognitive dissonance you have is astounding, you can’t bring yourself to admit the truth because it would destroy your world view. That “ other coach” who yall claim is a great coach, & better than the coach at WOS , in 15 years, has never won a playoff game, never been to the second round, has never won a district championship, has an overall losing record as a head coach, but you and your ilk insist that he’s a great coach. That’s how you know yall are full of what goes in the toilet Quote

Were those great coaches, yes. Would they still have experienced all those state runs without the drop…we’ll never know. 2000 was the year after we didn’t even make the playoffs. Quote

One person (coach). Cant fix any team.and that what's seperates some teams.from jump I said w.o would beat HF.i didn't think they would have to come from behind.they will make a run in the playoffs.but, idk, what happens when you have face size up front from schools like Carthage, gilmer,le vega.and your under size.how can they off set that.from any championship runs they have had they always were able to hold there own.if you look at there past it will show that.85 team lost to yates,88/89 team lost to Paris,2000 ennis,14 gilmer,17 pleasant groves.so no matter who the coach is if they can handle up front althetes on team will give them a shot Edited 8 hours ago by dj Misspelled Quote
