Read Option Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Buna is coming off It's worst two seasons in over 20 years. The 05-06 squad was winless. Since then Buna has always produced at least more than one win every season till now. They have went back to back seasons with zero district wins. Along with only one win each during the past two seasons. They have a great group of young kids right now! Gritty tough athletes that don't got one ounce of quit in them. They run every play to the best of their abilities every time. The slot T was brought in 2 years ago I just don't know if this is what Buna needs to run. They have a sophomore QB that can spin the rock. With some really athletic kids with speed. With this setup only throwing the ball 5-7 times a game. Just curious on how long till a team can run the slot T effectively? Or when its time to change it up and build around the strength of your players. Quote

Are you suggesting the hyper athletic Buna switch to a spread attack? Quote

No not complaining just curious of what others around the area think. About how long till a team grabs on to a Slot T offense. Along with do you change and adapt to the strength of your players. Just an open discussion. Quote

Slot t isn't the problem thats a very functional and proven offense for smaller kids. Deweyville, OF and vidors most productive offensive success have been that system..... I take it the defense wasn't any better with all that athleticism? OleCoog 1 Quote
Darth Texas Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Buna’s got a fast, athletic group coming up in the Jv. They can run something with more passing. And, since the slot t isn’t working for them there’s no reason not to try something else. I’ve watched most of the jv games this season and the slot t is a joke in buna’s hands. Varsity will be just as bad next year under this system. Quote

OleCoog Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Some of you guys are delusional. We have played with basically a JV team for the last 2 years. The cougs have been in shotgun all year running slot t and spread concepts. Every team has played press man and loaded the box. Youth is the issue, not the offense. The record this year was the same but there was a vast improvement from the previous year. Games were very competitive for the most part with a ton of soph starters. I would not be surprised to see them be over .500 next year and even better the next. Quote

Well, based on what people are saying , there's a good chance you won't have to play Hardin next year , so you have that going for you. Quote

Buna was averaging less than 7 points a game through the first 9 games last year and with a 22 point "explosion" in the final game bumped the average up to 8 points. That's a rough offensive season. This year the offense outscored the previous season's average in all but the final game. Definitely some improvement and a few very close games. If the team is young like you state your optimism could be sound. OleCoog 1 Quote

Also, the thought that needs to be brought up from my understanding is that last year’s senior group — and the current one — did not win a single game in junior high. I would say the offense is not the problem either. Looking at the roster that was handed out, there are six seniors on the team, and the majority of the remaining players are sophomores. You can tell these boys battle every snap. If you look back at their district play, they’ve been in every game at halftime, but as is often the case with a young team, the older kids tend to have the upper hand. Every team they faced in district had seniors spread across all three phases of the game. I think Trahan is doing a great job. He holds the kids accountable and pushes them to give their very best. I wouldn’t be surprised if next season they make a strong run in district. Quote

This is definitely not a quote from his dad. From the games I’ve watched this year he does have a fantastic arm. Also is a stud baseball player and pitcher. Quote
